Good Evening and Welcome Fellow Pioneers and Guests:

Thank you all for coming to celebrate the history of cable, and the people who made it possible. This marks the second year of our partnership with the SCTE/ISBE, and we couldn’t be happier to be celebrating it here in Atlanta. How peachy is that? When I worked here 30 years ago, as president of the transmission division of Scientific-Atlanta, Ted Turner was down the street laying the foundation for his legacy, first with the Super-Station TBS, then CNN, TNT, Cartoon Network, Turner Classic Movies and so on. Prime Cable was running 40-plus amplifier cascades to reach the growing northern suburbs – fastest growing in the nation in the ’90s. Sixty channel systems were expanding to 80 channels. Behind only Denver, Atlanta was fashioning cable’s future. Oh, when fiber and digital compression showed up, some companies around Philadelphia would eventually have something to say about that, but we can celebrate them in 2022 when our dinner will be there!

Tonight, we introduce to you another banner group of new Pioneers, covering all the facets of the industry. I don’t know that it takes a village, but it certainly takes a team of disciplines to make a cable company succeed. Individuals who not only dedicated their lives to cable, but also to the community and to their colleagues.

In addition to cable history, soak in some traditional southern hospitality while you are here. But most of all, enjoy!
