The Exalted Ruler’s Message
Hello my Lodge Brothers and Sisters. Summer time is
finally here and I can hear the birds singing as I write this
message. What a beautiful thing!
The end of May and the beginning of June was a flurry of
activity. At the State Convention, our Lodge was awarded
the Dick Herndopler Trophy for our drug awareness program
last year. This was truly an honor and well deserved. We also
were the state champions for Interlodge competition in shuffleboard…outstanding! Our Lodge had a great showing of support at the Vergennes
Memorial day Parade, then we painted the Recreation Hall at Silver Towers and supported
Special Olympics for three days at UVM—and that only took us through the first week!
BIG NEWS - we now have a new State President (her message is included in the
Bulletin), and our Lodge has three members now in state offices. We also have 10 new
members. Welcome to the Lodge!!!
In July, I will travel to Austin, Texas with my bride and Loyal Knight Pamela to
represent all of you at the National Convention . At this time there are two major
resolutions to be considered. One affects how Life Membership fees are assessed and the
other allows for a major reduction in the rituals used during General Lodge meetings and
during new member initiation. These resolutions are posted in the Lodge for you to read. Also please look at the schedule in this Bulletin. There is so much happening in July
with the Lodge Campout, clambake, Silver Towers Motorcycle ride and Family Day. Now
as we all start to enjoy our summer activities, stop by with your friends and show off your
Lodge. It is a place you all can be so proud of as it is the most beautiful Lodge in the state.
If there are ideas for new things you would like to do at the Lodge or improvements/
changes you would like to see to things we are already doing, please let either me or any
of the officers or trustees know. Also bring your suggestions to the Governing Board or
general meetings so we can talk about them. The important thing is that with new ideas
and suggestions, we continue to make our Lodge an interesting and fun place to come to.
This is your Lodge and your Lodge family so let’s all pull together to make it all that it can
be. I can be reached at any time by either leaving me a note, in the Exalted Ruler’s slot in
the upstairs hallway from the members bar, or contact me at [email protected]
Please provide me with phone numbers or addresses so I can respond to you (either regular
mail or e-mail) I absolutely want to hear from you
Have a Fantastic July. May the weather be hot and sunny and full of good times. Enjoy!
Fraternally Yours,
Gary Poirier, Exalted Ruler

The Year of The
Duck Begins!
The Vermont Elks Association held its
85th Annual Convention on May 18-20 at
the Stowe Mountain Resort. There were
132 Delegates, 19 Alternates and 86 guests participating in the event (237 total). Junior
Past President Bob Milne of Montpelier
Lodge #924 and his team did an outstand-
ing job leading the Association through 2011-2012 and a great job on
the convention! Congratulations and many thanks!
On Sunday, I had the great privilege of being sworn in as your
86th President of the Vermont Elks Association (VEA). Thank you to
members of the VEA from across the State, Bennington Lodge #567,
and to my husband Greg for entrusting me with this honor. I am ex-
tremely proud and terrifically humbled.
Along with our suite of officers; Chaplain David Tripp, P.E.R.; Esquire David Fenster, P.E.R., P.D.D.; and Tyler Bill Bryan, P.E.R.,
P.D.D.; the State Trustees and the Camp Committee; I vow to do the
best job we can to lead the Association and the programs we support!
My motto for the year is “We all have our part to play.” If you are
a member of the Elks, you are playing your part. A portion of your
dues goes to support our lodge and our many programs. For this I
would like to offer my personal thanks. I would also encourage you
to be as involved as you possibly can. I have found that you get back
much more than you give!
Again, many thanks for this privilege and there will be more in-
formation about the Year of the Duck to come!
Fraternally yours, Lori Pinsonneault
Vermont Elks Assoc. President, 2012-2013

ELDOES
CORNER
“Life is Good. You have 3 choices:
Give Up, Give In, or Give it all you have!
Hello again – as I write this it appears summer is arriving in Ver-mont. For those of you who don’t know me, I can sure stand the
heat. Just returned from Arizona and on my favorite day there the
temperature only reached 113 (gotta love it!!!!!)
We want to thank all of you who supported our 2012 Spring Bas-
ket Raffle. We had 2 baskets each worth approximately $400 each.
The drawing was held at the May 23rd steak night. The two lucky
winners were: Esteemed Leading Knight Bob LaRue and Jeff Shep-
ard (Jeff, I understand and his wife moved to Florida that weekend
so very appreciative of the food certificates that were in the basket).
Good luck to them on their new venture and congratulations to our
winners! Going forward – we will again be having our annual bazaar on
Sunday November 4th. We are always looking for crafters as well as
old jewelry. The jewelry table is one of our bigger money makers –
so if you have some you would like to donate, please contact an
Eldoe and they will be more than happy to take it off your hands.
Upcoming trips: July 10th – Montreal Casino; August 12/13 – 3
Casino venture; October 2nd – our 5th annual Lake George Dinner
Theatre. For further information on these trips – please call me at
238-7565 or Gary at 238-2219. We are looking into having a Taste
of Vermont (more information to follow).
As you all know – fundraising is more of a challenge these days
with all that is going in the economic world. That being said, we still find as big a need if not more for those who need our support. So it
is a big thank you to all of you who support us in our efforts.
The monthly birthday invitation to steak night continues. Come to
a steak night during your birthday month and you receive $5.00 off
of your meal. July birthdays: Charlene Cannizzaro, Pat Clayton,
Sandra Enos, Pat Gero, Bev Guest, Janet Handy, and Ann Irish
(there must have been many COLD October nights). A very happy
birthday to all and I hope to see you at an upcoming steak night.
Please keep all of our members, family and friends in your
thoughts and prayers. As we get approach our “GOLDEN
YEARS” (so they say) we all seem be encountering new challenges and they are not easy.
‘Til next month – thank you to my partner in crime Liz. Linda DeLaricheliere President
