The aim of the City of stockholm is to give every child and student a world class education. the city offers a large variety of schools with various profiles to fit the talents and

interests of each and every child. Adolf fredriks Musikklasser is a fine example of this.

Music and culture play a fundamental role in society. Children and teenagers are large consumers as well as creators of culture - a fact we must acknowledge and a phenomenon we must encourage. An early interest in culture serves as a fundamental basis for the cultural life of generations to come.

City of stockholm has an important action plan for the culture of children, teenagers and young adults. the City of stockholm also offers a strong public school for culture, where children and young people can practice music, drama, dance, art and other fine arts.

let the future sing 2012 is a splendid example of cultural exchange as well as international student exchange, something which plays an important part in creating a world class education not only in stock-holm but in many other cities. We sincerely look forward to the festival and welcome every participant to stockholm.

WElCoME to lEt thE futurE siNg! MusiC – A globAl CoNNECtioN!

A s Principal and head of the Adolf fredriks Musikklasser it is my great pleasure and an honour to welcome you to sweden and stockholm!

how fantastic it is to be able to communicate in this universal language of music! here in stockholm, 1700 children and youngsters unite, and i am deeply moved by the thought of the message this sends to the entire world; ”let the future sing”!

We believe that our festival will not only offer the highest quality vocal music, but also help spread a sense of what music can accom-plish in our society.

being part of the world of music gives us a chance to use our resources, develop our passions, build relationships, feel connected and find the meaning and purpose of our existence.

the future is ours, and we are part of creating it. it is my sincere wish that our message ‘let the future sing’ shall resonate through stockholm and throughout the world!

Welcome to a week filled with vocal music and new friends!i hope you will experience one of those magical moments that

only music can bring. that moment when we are transported to a different dimension.

Music is the creator of identities, it alters our environment.

lars-göran Jacobsson, Principal Adolf fredriks Musikklasser

Immediately after finishing the Anniversary festival in 2009 we started to dream of our next one. Would it be possible to repeat a success? how often can one carry through a festival

of such a magnitude? Now we are here – three years later – with six invited choirs of

very high level, and lots of logistics making sure that all our guests will have a pleasant stay in stockholm and at Adolf fredriks Musik-klasser.

Again it has been a great challenge to manage this fantastic and gigantic project. A challenge involving a multitude of contacts with people in stockholm and the whole world, creating an amazing network of talent. let alone all the details! Everything from finding the right venues and deciding upon the joint repertoire, to feeding 1,500 people during the course of three hours in the school can-teen (am. eng. dining hall).

As you read this, however, everything should be in order. And hopefully, the Concert hall is crowded with an anticipated audience ready to enjoy the beautiful songs of talented young singers from the whole world.

to all of you – welcome and enjoy!

Welcome to an open panel discussion on the future of choir music for young voices. Conductors of the participating choirs are encouraged to contribute to the seminar by sharing their own experiences of how to find or contribute to the creating of new music. or, hopefully not too commonly, share their frustrations.

T he Cantemus Children’s Choir (founded in 1975 by Dénes szabó) is the multi international prize

winning senior pupils’ choir of the Kodály Zoltán Primary school in Nyiregyháza, hungary. since its formation in 1975 the choir has achieved the highest of standards in choral performance and has travelled extensively to give concerts, compete, and take part in festivals in countries through-out Europe and the rest of the world – including Australia, Canada, Japan, Korea, south America and the united states of America.

the successes of the choir are founded on the principles of the Kodály music teaching method implemented under the leadership of Dénes szabó, who teaches music to children in the senior years at the school, conducts and directs the choir and is the Director of the Cantemus Choral institute.

the choir’s extensive repertoire is focussed on the the beauty of choral music - ranging from gregorian chant through the renaissance and romantic periods to contemporary works. some of the hungarian repertoire is based on traditional folk music – including works by bartók and Kodály – and some have been written especially with the choir in mind by leading contemporary hungarian composers. As such the choir has become a standard bearer for both traditional and contemporary hungarian music.
