Possible Introduction:

“During the late 19th and early 20th century, many nations followed Imperialism, which was the policy of gaining territory outside one’s own borders for the benefit of the imperial nation. The United States adopted and practiced a policy of Imperialism throughout the world, particularly in Asia, the Pacific and Latin America, for a variety of reasons. Among the motives which drove the United States to pursue Imperialism were religious and cultural attitudes, strategic military concerns, and the goal of strengthening American trade and economic opportunities.”
