The Clark County Department of Aviation is thelargest department within the government of ClarkCounty, Nevada, and is operated as an enterprise fund.McCarran International Airport and the four generalaviation facilities in the Clark County Airport System areowned by Clark County and operated under the policydirection of the Board of County Commissioners, theauthority of the County Manager and the managementof the Director of Aviation, Deputy Directors of Aviationand the Airport Chief Financial Officer.

Employing 1500 individuals, the department dedicatedto hospitality and hosts the airport-wide McCarran atYour Service (MAYS) program, designed to ensure acustomer experience that makes visitors want to returnwith their family and friends. Department employeesalso participate in a Community Enrichment Team,volunteering with local agencies such as The RonaldMcDonald House, Shade Tree Shelter, Three Squareand Spread the Word.

McCarran International Airport

McCarran International Airport (LAS) is the primarycommercial airport serving the Las Vegas Valley andClark County. The airport is about five miles south ofdowntown Las Vegas. It covers roughly 2,800 acres withfour runways and two terminals. The airport isnamed after former United States Senator andnative Nevadan Pat McCarran (1876–1954).

The airport is the largest operating base forAllegiant Air. In February 2012, McCarran alsobecame a crew and maintenance base forSpirit Airlines.

McCarran is ranked the 27th busiest airport inthe world by passenger traffic, with 48.5 millionpassengers transiting through the airport in2017. In terms of aircraft movements, theairport ranks 8th in the world with 542,994takeoffs and landings last year.

In 2017, the busiest scheduled airlines flying out ofMcCarran were Southwest Airlines (38%), AmericanAirlines (9.7%), Delta Air Lines (9.7%), United Airlines(8.0%), and Spirit Airlines (7.2%). Canadian airlineWestJet is McCarran’s largest international carrier,transporting almost 922,000 passengers in 2017.(continued...)

The operational budget for the 2017-18 fiscal yearwas $661 million. The most recent significant capitalimprovement projects include the completion ofTerminal 3 in June 2012; Runway 26R/8Lreconstruction, which concluded in April 2016; and theconversion of an existing gating area to include sevenadditional gates capable of handling internationalarrivals, which opened in June 2017 and increasedthe airport’s international gate total to 14. Year-end2017 enplanements totaled 24,278,814.

Henderson Executive Airport

Henderson Executive Airport is the corporate choice foraviation in Southern Nevada. Located just minutes fromthe world-famous Las Vegas Strip, it is the idealalternative to McCarran International Airport. ClarkCounty has invested more than $30 million to create apremier corporate aviation airport that caters to theaircraft owner’s needs, their passengers and theiraircraft.

North Las Vegas Airport

Near downtown Las Vegas and the world-famousStrip, North Las Vegas Airport is a convenient andeconomical alternative to McCarran InternationalAirport. North Las Vegas Airport is designed to meet

the needs of general aviation pilots andtheir passengers. The friendly andexperienced staff will take good care ofaircraft owners and their aircraft fromthe moment they taxi onto the ramp.

Jean Sport AviationCenter

Located 20 miles south of Las Vegas onI-15, Jean Sport Aviation Center is agreat little airport for fly-ins and ideal forrecreational aviation, including generalaviation aircraft, aerobatic aircraft,gliders, ultralights and skydiving.

Overton / Perkins Field

Sporting a 4,800-foot, uncontrolled, paved runway,with a pilot-activated runway lighting system, PerkinsField is located approximately 70 miles northeast ofLas Vegas, just minutes from Lake Mead's OvertonBeach in the picturesque Moapa Valley.

The Community

Everyone knows Las Vegas as a tourist Mecca, but it is alsoa wonderful place for families to live, work and play.

Clark County is one of the most dynamic communities inthe western United States, regularly enticing newresidents drawn by the area’s unique mix of lifestyles,amenities and year-round recreational opportunities.With 2,248,000 residents, it is easily the most populousof Nevada’s 17 counties and was home to nearly three-quarters of all Nevadans at the close of 2017.

Tourism’s annual economic impact isnearly $60 billion, supporting more than391,000 jobs; close to $10.0 billion isspent annually on gambling alone. Knownas the “Destination of Choice” for millionsof visitors from around the world, ClarkCounty includes the cities of Las Vegas,Henderson, North Las Vegas, Boulder Cityand Mesquite, and covers nearly 8,000square miles.

The community represents a proud portraitof contrast and diversity where anincreasing blend of urban and ruralneighborhoods co-exist side-by-side.Diverse yet united, Clark County is acontinually evolving region of individualsand families.

Clark County offers its residents one of the largest schooldistricts in the country. There are more than 350 publicelementary, middle and senior high schools, plusnumerous parochial, charter and private schools withinthe Las Vegas Valley. The school district is dedicated tothe continued support of programs that improve studentachievement, and to the creation and implementation ofnew initiatives. There are a variety of traditional andmagnet school programs available, as well as online andhome school options. Higher education also thrives here,led by the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, a renownedurban research institution with more than 26,000 studentsand more than 100 undergraduate and 120 graduate andprofessional programs. The Desert Research Institute,Nevada State College and the College of SouthernNevada offer additional educational opportunities andcareer training.

A wide range of programs and activities provide ClarkCounty residents the opportunity to develop lifelonginterests. Offering recreational and leisure programs andevents for citizens of all ages, the County providesparks and innovative recreational activities such aschildren’s camps, classes, concerts, sports leagues,youth programs and senior citizen activities.

The Community (continued…)The Smith Center, a $470 million performing arts center,opened near the heart of Clark County in downtown Las Vegasin spring 2012. It brings a variety of world-class performancesto the area, including the Broadway Las Vegas Series. Otherentertainment opportunities range from the renowned Cirquedu Soleil shows in residence at many of the Las Vegas Stripresorts to the Nevada Ballet Theater and theLas Vegas Philharmonic Orchestra.

Multiple museums showcase the history of thisuncommon area, ranging from the Las VegasSprings Preserve to the National Museum ofOrganized Crime & Law Enforcement,commonly known as the Mob Museum. Othersinclude the Lost City Museum andarcheological site, the Old Las Vegas MormonFort, the Barrick Natural History Museum, andthe Neon Museum. Other illuminating areaamenities include Madame TussaudsInteractive Wax Museum, the DiscoveryChildren’s Museum and the Bellagio Gallery ofFine Art.

There are many other unique programs in thearea. The Las Vegas Arts District’s “First Friday”is a monthly celebration featuring local artistsand performers. Boulder City is home to theannual Dam Short Film Festival, and the Vegas Valley BookFestival brings nationally acclaimed writers to town. The Pop-Up Poetry series features local poets, and the annual Rock ‘n’Roll Marathon and The Great Santa Run are yearly favorites,as well.

Las Vegas is home to the National Finals Rodeo, and othersporting events abound such as boxing and mixed martial arts;the Las Vegas 51s minor league baseball team; twice yearlyNASCAR racing at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway; theRunnin’ Rebels college basketball team; and PGA Tour events.Its first major professional sports franchise, the Vegas GoldenKnights, began play at the new T-Mobile Arena during the2017-18 National Hockey League season. Separately, theNational Football League’s Oakland Raiders will relocate to LasVegas in time for the 2020 season, playing in a new 65,000-seat arena now under construction just west of the Las VegasStrip.

Outdoor recreational activities are plentiful in Clark County.Mount Charleston’s hiking, camping and skiing are just 45minutes away from the center of town, and Red Rock NationalConservation area lies on the western fringe of the Las VegasValley. Lake Mead National Recreation Area, located 30 milessoutheast of Las Vegas, caters to boaters, swimmers, fishingenthusiasts, hikers, wildlife photographers and roadsidesightseers. The Valley of Fire, Nevada’s largest state park,features a visitor’s center, nature trails and 3,000-year-oldpetroglyphs. It’s just 55 miles northeast of Las Vegas. HistoricHoover Dam, built in 1935, is also nearby, just east of BoulderCity. There are also plenty of golf courses in the area.

Home to the world-famous Las Vegas Strip, the“Entertainment Capital of the World” boastsnine of the 10 largest hotels in the UnitedStates, and nearly 150,000 guest roomsoverall. This jewel in the desert lures more than40 million tourists each year to enjoy world-class entertainment and hospitality, splendidcasinos and recreation options. The world’slargest observation wheel, the 550-foot-tall HighRoller, debuted in the spring of 2014, and thereare several rollercoasters and thrill rides alongthe resort corridor. Other attractions includea dolphin habitat, botanical gardens, theAdventure Dome indoor theme park, the SharkReef Aquarium and the Ethel M ChocolateFactory and Cactus Garden.

Las Vegas is also known as the “WeddingCapital of the World” and couples from all overthe world take advantage of themed wedding

and renewal packages, including drive-through, Elvis,helicopter, and gondola weddings.

Clark County boasts a variety of fine restaurants andspecialized food venues hosted by celebrity chefs such asWolfgang Puck, Emeril Lagasse and Gordon Ramsay. Ofcourse, there are plenty of buffets to frequent, as well. There isa dazzling array of shopping opportunities, including well-known shopping at The Forum Shops at Caesars, the GrandCanal Shoppes at The Venetian and the Miracle Mile Shops atPlanet Hollywood, as well as multiple local malls and outletshopping.

The Strip’s ongoing excitement and frequent expansionprojects have factored into the historical growth of ClarkCounty’s population. A high quality of life is afforded byNevada’s low tax rate, wonderful business climate, greatweather, friendly people and variety of recreational venues.

The Position

The primary functional areas of responsibility include direct oversight of Landside Operations, Terminal Operations and airport Security Divisions. Landside Operations manages curbside operations,enforcement and security, parking operations,shuttle bus operations for inter-terminal and remoteparking passenger movements and overallmanagement of the airport roadway system.Terminal Operations is responsible for managing allcustodial operations of over 2.6 million square feet of public areas, passenger services and coordinating medical and security responses within the terminal. In addition to managing access control, the Security Identification Office and Canine teams, the Security Division works closely with our partners in Transportation Security Administration, Customs and Border Protection, Metro Police, the Fire Departmentand Secret Service. As the second largest origination and destination airport in the nation, leadership of these key divisions is essential to ensuring a high-quality customer experience from the curbside to the gate.

Reporting to the Director of Aviation, the DeputyDirector is a key member of the executiveleadership team assisting in strategic planning,organizing and administering all developmental andoperational phases of the Clark County AirportSystem consisting of a major international airportfacility, general aviation airports and associatedparking and related facilities.

The Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate is one who understands theimportance of delivering a superior passengerexperience through innovation and the ability to inspirea large staff who are on the front lines of customerservice, must value innovation, building relationships,understand the business of airports, have strategicvision and a proven track record in the execution ofnew programs and projects. The candidate must alsohave expertise to represent the Director in thecommunity and in County meetings and negotiationswith a wide variety of individuals and groups.

Position Qualifications

Successful candidates will have a Bachelor’s degree inAviation Management, Business or Public Administrationor a field related to the work and a minimum of fiveyears of full-time upper level management experiencewhich will have provided the required knowledge andskills. A Master’s degree in an appropriate field isdesirable. Equivalent combination of formal educationand appropriate related experience may be considered.Commercial airport experience is a plus.

Salary & Benefits

Salary range is $129,230.40 - $200,283.20 with anexcellent benefit package, including retirement throughNevada PERS (Public Employees’Retirement System) and a vehicleallowance.
