As we look at our lives and world events, do we ever find ourselves wondering if God is sleeping? After all, maybe God’s patient, unconditional love has run its course and He is finally fed up with humanity’s reluctance to accept the truth about who we are. God really can’t be that patient! All throughout human history, many have prayed to God for intervention or for particular needs. Because their prayers were not answered in the way they wanted or anticipated, they felt that God may have abandoned them. Were they right? It seems that we are continuing, at a rapid rate, down a path of destruction. Do you not care, God, that we may be perishing? When the boats of our lives are rocking and the seas tumultuous, we want to know that we have God’s attention. Even more so, we want God’s intervention. Maybe the storms and the waves are necessary. If we listen, they can teach us valuable lessons. Without them, we would never learn that we have the strength to endure, understand the uselessness of fear and worry, or develop the ability to really trust. If God immediately rushed in and simply calmed things down before they got difficult, what good would that really be? We would miss opportunities to learn how to drink more deeply of life, treasure its complexity, irony, and beauty and fully engage ourselves in surrendering to the love of our Creator. It is easy to walk on the surface of life without immersing ourselves in its messiness. Life has to burn its way through us in order to bring us to a place of secure trust. It’s unfortunate that some prefer a shallower journey. That’s the balancing act that comes with faith. It is not God’s job to prevent us from encountering the torrential rains and winds of life. Many believe that if faith is done the right way, that God will provide for smooth sailing. That’s not how it works. God permits us to ride out the difficult stuff knowing that the storm will eventually be calmed. Do we not have faith that God will do this? True faith trusts in the steadfastness of God’s love when the seas are calm and when they are choppy. God’s unconditional loving presence shines through all of it and endures forever. Knowing this allows us to put our boats out into unchartered waters without hesitation. Knowing that we prefer the comfort and safety of what we know to be still waters, how do we feel when Jesus says, “Let us cross to the other side”?
Cuando miramos nuestras vidas y eventos mundiales, ¿alguna vez nos preguntamos si Dios está durmiendo? Después de todo, tal vez el amor incondicional y paciente de Dios haya seguido su curso y finalmente esté harto de la renuencia de la humanidad a aceptar la verdad sobre quiénes somos. ¡Dios realmente no puede ser tan paciente! A lo largo de la historia de la humanidad, muchos han rezado a Dios por su intervención o por necesidades particulares. Debido a que sus oraciones no fueron respondidas de la manera que querían o anticipaban, sintieron que Dios los había abandonado. ¿Tenían razón? Parece que continuamos, a un ritmo acelerado, por un camino de destrucción. ¿No te importa, Dios, que estemos pereciendo? Cuando los barcos de nuestras vidas se balancean y los mares se agitan, queremos saber que tenemos la atención de Dios. Más aún, queremos la intervención de Dios.
Quizás las tormentas y las olas sean necesarias. Si escuchamos, pueden enseñarnos lecciones valiosas. Sin ellos, nunca aprenderíamos que tenemos la fuerza para soportar,
comprender la inutilidad del miedo y la preocupación, o desarrollar la capacidad de confiar realmente. Si Dios se apresurara inmediatamente y simplemente calmara las cosas antes de que se pusieran difíciles, ¿de qué serviría eso realmente? Perderíamos oportunidades para aprender a beber más profundamente de la vida, atesorar su complejidad, ironía y belleza y dedicarnos plenamente a entregarnos al amor de nuestro Creador. Es fácil caminar sobre la superficie de la vida sin sumergirnos en su desorden.
La vida tiene que abrirse camino a través de nosotros para llevarnos a un lugar de confianza segura. Es lamentable que algunos prefieran un viaje menos profundo.
Ese es el acto de equilibrio que viene con la fe. No es el trabajo de Dios evitar que nos encontremos con las lluvias torrenciales y los vientos de la vida. Muchos creen que si la fe se hace de la manera correcta, Dios proveerá para que la navegación sea fluida. Así no es cómo funciona. Dios nos permite superar las cosas difíciles sabiendo que la tormenta eventualmente se calmará. ¿No tenemos fe en que Dios hará esto? La verdadera fe confía en la firmeza del amor de Dios cuando los mares están en calma y cuando están agitados. La presencia amorosa incondicional de Dios brilla a través de todo y perdura para siempre. Saber esto nos permite poner nuestros barcos en aguas desconocidas sin dudarlo. Sabiendo que preferimos la comodidad y la seguridad de lo que sabemos que son aguas tranquilas, ¿cómo nos sentimos cuando Jesús dice: “Crucemos al otro lado”?

This week we celebrate the heroic life of our Patron Saint: Aloysius Gonzaga. As a son of a princely family, (Aloysius) grew up in royal courts and army camps. His father wanted him to be a military hero. At age 7 Aloysius experienced a profound spiritual awakening. When he was 13 years old, he traveled with his parents and the Empress of Austria to Spain, and acted as a page in the court of Phillip II. The more Aloysius saw of court life, the more disillusioned he became, seeking relief in learning about the lives of saints. A book about the experience of Jesuit missionaries in India suggested to him the idea of entering the Society of Jesus, and in Spain his decision became final. In 1591, a plague struck Rome. The Jesuits opened a hospital of their own. The superior general himself and many other Jesuits rendered personal service. Aloysius caught the disease. A fever persisted after his recovery and he was so weak he could scarcely rise from bed. Yet he maintained his great discipline of prayer. He would die three months later within the octave of Corpus Christi, at the age of 23. Esta semana celebramos la vida heroica de nuestro Santo Patrón: Luis Gonzaga. Como hijo de una familia principesca, (Luis) creció entre cortes reales y campos militares. Su padre deseaba que el llegase a ser un héroe militar. A los 7 años Luis tuvo un despertar espiritual muy profundo. Cuando tenía 13 años viajo junto a sus padres y la emperatriz de Austria a España y actuó como un paje en la corte de Felipe II. Mientras más veía de la vida en corte más desilusionado se volvía, buscando alivio aprendiendo sobre la vida de los santos. Un libro sobre la experiencia de misioneros Jesuitas en la India lo inspiró a entrar en la Sociedad de Jesús, y su decisión se hizo final en España. En 1591 Roma fue atacada por una plaga, los Jesuitas abrieron su propio hospital. El superior general junto a un número de Jesuitas se prestaron para auxiliar a los afectados y Luis Gonzaga adquirió la enfermedad. Una fiebre persistió después de haberse recuperado, y se debilito tal grado que apenas lograba levantarse de la cama. Sin embargo sostuvo su gran disciplina de oración. Habría de morir tres mese después dentro de la octava de Corpus Christi, a la edad de 23 años. Pedro , la cual nos une mucho más al Santo Padre, tanto a
nosotros como a los católicos de todo el mundo, de dos

las cuales el Papa gobierna la Iglesia así como sus labores de
caridad para ayudar a las víctimas de la guerra, opresión y
desastres naturales y a los más necesitados. Por favor, sean

Back to the New Normal! You probably noticed a few more changes as we have begun to open the Church in its entirety. We have returned the devotional candles to its normal place. We kindly ask that you please be considerate of those around you when lighting the candles and when there are people praying at the kneelers. We do ask for your offerings in the amounts suggested according to the size of the candles. The offering helps cover the purchase cost of the candles. If you do see someone lighting candles and not paying for them please remind them kindly and gently guide them to the offertory box where they can place their offering. We also have filled up the holy water fonts at the entrances of all the Church doors. Please make sure your hands are clean before you touch the holy water. We do have available hand sanitizers which you can use to clean your hands before you dip your fingers in the font. We will also go back to using the baptismal fountain for all future Baptisms. As we go back to the new normal, lets no forget some of the most important things we learned during the pandemic shut-down: clean your hands often, use a mask if you are sick or better yet stay home until you are feeling better and most importantly let’s not take each other for granted. Let’s remember the two greatest commandments: “Love your God with all your heart and love your neighbor as yourself."
¡Devuelta a la Nueva Normalidad!
Probablemente notaron algunos cambios adicionales ya que hemos comenzado a abrir la Iglesia en su totalidad.
Hemos devuelto las velas devocionales a su lugar normal. Le pedimos amablemente que por favor sea considerado con los que le rodean al encender las velas y cuando hay personas orando en los arrodillados. Pedimos sus ofrendas en las cantidades sugeridas de acuerdo con el tamaño de las velas. La oferta ayuda a cubrir el costo de comprar las velas. Si ve a alguien encendiendo velas y no pagando por ellas, recuérdeles amablemente y guíelos
suavemente a la caja de ofertorio donde pueden colocar su ofrenda.
También hemos llenado las fuentes de agua bendita en las entradas de todas las puertas de la Iglesia. Por favor, asegúrese de que sus manos estén limpias antes de tocar el agua bendita. Aloysius de Gonzaga was an Italian aristocrat who became a member of the Society of Jesus. While still a student at the Roman College, he died as a result of caring for the victims of a serious epidemic. He was beatified in 1605 and canonized in 1726.
Luis de Gonzaga fue un aristócrata italiano que se convirtió en miembro de la Compañía de Jesús. Cuando todavía era estudiante en el Colegio Romano, murió como resultado de cuidar a las víctimas de una grave epidemia. Fue beatificado en 1605 y canonizado en 1726.
