The National Sports Center for the Disabled (NSCD) is one of the largest outdoor therapeutic recreation and adaptive sports agencies in the world, based out of Winter Park Resort and Sports Authority Field at Mile High in Colorado. The NSCD began in 1970 providing ski lessons for children with amputations for the Children’s Hospital of Denver. Each year, more than 3,000 children and adults with disabilities participate in our programs to learn more about sports and themselves. With specially trained staff and volunteers, and its own adaptive equipment lab, the NSCD teaches a variety of year-round sports and activities to individuals with almost any physical, cognitive, emotional or behavioral diagnosis.
We enable the human spirit through therapeutic sports and recreation.
The NSCD is recognized around the world as a premier therapeutic recreation organization, providing
leadership and expertise in adaptive sports.
The NSCD offers a variety of year-round sports and recreational adventures. In the winter participants enjoy alpine skiing, snowboarding, cross-country skiing, Nordic hut trips, snowshoeing and ski racing. Additionally the NSCD offers year-round rock climbing and kayak lessons. In the spring, summer and fall we offer sport ability clinics, rafting, canoeing, special camps, therapeutic horseback riding, mountain biking and camping. All programs are designed for individuals, families and custom groups and are available for all levels of ability, from beginner to advanced. We look forward to seeing you or your group this season.

Sponsor one of the NSCD therapy horses through the Adopt-a-Horse program. Horses currently seeking sponsors include: Hawk, Montana, Blackie, Chestnut and Yogi. The cost of maintaining a therapy horse is approximately $150.00 per month. Costs may include boarding, feed, farrier and veterinary costs.
The Adopt-a-Horse program gives corporations, groups and individuals the opportunity to support the “backbone” of our therapeutic riding program – the horses.
If you sponsor a horse for 3 or more months ($450), you will receive 2 free rides during our summer season.

The driving force behind the NSCD is a team of more than
1,000 volunteers who dedicate over 30,000 hours annually
to thousands of children and adults with disabilities as they
take to the ski slopes, lakes and playing fields to learn more
about sports and themselves. The NSCD offers a variety of
volunteer opportunities in our mountain and metro programs,
special events, and administrative functions.
Corporate volunteer programs are a win-win for your
company and the NSCD. The Volunteer IMPACT Survey
published by Deloitte shows that 78 percent of employees
would rather work for an ethical and reputable company
than receive a higher salary, so companies have a vested
interest in building a corporate volunteerism program that
works. The University of Texas at Austin and the Points of
Light Foundation found volunteer programs can help develop
employee skills, improve leadership skills, create teamwork
opportunities and create more job satisfaction. Fifty- eight
percent of companies use employee volunteer programs
for recruiting and keeping employees and 97 percent of
employee-volunteer managers felt corporate volunteerism
improved teamwork within teams.
The NSCD will work with your company to make the most
of your employee’s time, enthusiasm and abilities. The
possibilities are endless and include NSCD Ability clinics,
50/50 raffle sales at Denver Bronco home games, special
events and various program volunteer opportunities.
For more information or to volunteer, contact the volunteer
office at 303-316-1546 or [email protected].
