By October my family and I will be in Florida with the other retirees. I will miss my Legion family of 34 years here at Post 66 but life moves on for all of us. I want to thank you all for the support youve given me over this past year and I hope you will give my successor Warren Bradley the same. Okay enough of the tear jerky stuff and on to business. We will also have a D.J. for music. The Auxiliary will also be doing some food as well. We ask everyone to bring a side or desert to share. Sons of the American Legion,

Hope everyone is having a great summer and enjoying the warm weather and vacations with the family.

The S.A.L. is still picking up new members all the time; it certainly makes all of us feel good seeing new faces coming in and how they feel after the warm welcoming they get from everyone on their first time visiting our post.

We are always sad to hear the passing of any member of our great post but recently have lost Buzzy Lancaster, David Knight and Larry Merkel. They have transferred to the S.A.L. Post Everlasting. They are all still missed badly, and we continue to pray for all the families and extremely glad to see them at the Legion.

The 46th Annual Convention of the Sons of the American Legion Detachment of Maryland was held on June 21st -24th in Hunt Valley, MD where Squadron 66 won a few awards: TOP DONOR FOR TOYS FOR TOTS, AN AWARD FOR AMERICANISM AND THE SOUTHERN MARYLAND DISTRICT COMMAND-ERS CHOICE FOR BEST SQUADRON.

I know this makes all of us proud…

Elections have been held for our Officers and the Installation of Officers will be on July 24th.

The Officers are:

Commander: Kevin McMeans

First Vice: Joe Clark

Finance Officer: Del Billings

Adjutant: Joe Weik

Chaplain: Bill Milligan

Sergeant of Arms: Josh Chambers

Historian: Vacant

Future events are coming up fast so please come out and bring your families, friends and neighbors. The 24th Annual Car Show will be held on September 21, 2019. We are certainly looking forward to making this bigger than last year and could use some help from others. Please email me and let me know if you can help: [email protected]

Also, the Annual Crab Feast will be held on October 5, 2019.

Well here it is...our summer newsletter. Most newsletters start off with a weather report of some kind; I don’t have to tell you it’s hot, hot, hot.

Let’s start off with election of officers. Our officers for this year are: Debbie McMeans, President; Lois VanSickle, Vice President; Cindy Morvant, Secretary; Anselma Obremski, Treasurer; Bonnie Bradley, Sargent at Arms; Agnes Bowersox, Chaplain. The position of Historian is still vacant. If you have a desire to become active in the auxiliary this is a great place to volunteer.

With the Convention just ahead July 16th through the 19

th in Ocean City, it is our privi-

lege and we are so proud to nominate Linda Green for President of the Department of Maryland. You so deserve this Linda, and you have our full support for this upcoming year. Congratulations.

The Auxiliary has planned a “Past Commanders and Presidents Dinner” August 17th.

We have invited all past Commanders and Presidents of Post 66 to be our guests at a celebration dinner. Invitations are in the mail. This is the 100

th Anniversary for the Le-

gion and begins the 100th Anniversary for the Auxiliary. Tickets for our members will be

on sale starting Saturday, July 27th. Ticket cost for this dinner will be $10. Get your

tickets early, there are a limited number of seats. The tickets will be available at the bar or see Debbie McMeans. We are collecting old photos, along with yearbooks, or other memorabilia to display. Come welcome home our alumni. The evening begins at 5 pm with appetizers and a roast beef dinner, but does not end there, we will be having mu-sic after dinner by our resident musician, Kevin McMeans.

The next regular meeting for the Auxiliary will be Wednesday September 18th at 7pm. It

is the beginning of a new year. Come out and be a part of the planning of another great year with Unit 66.

Membership for 2020 will begin after convention; we already have renewals waiting and new members anxious to become a part of our great organization. You may know someone who would like to become a member; many are not members just because no one has asked. This year we need to be the first unit to reach our goal in the De-partment of Maryland. Let’s go ladies, get those renewals in early!

Have a healthy and wonderful summer.

God Bless America,

Debbie McMeans, President

Auxiliary Unit 66
