Executive Committee Meeting Minutes
January 13, 2020
Commander Fred Rogers called the meeting, held at STRIKZ, to order at 1830. The
opening ceremony included a prayer and reciting the pledge of allegiance.
Officers Roll Call – See the attached "PEC Attendance Roster": In attendance
were Ted Ruybal, Glena Rogers, Charlie Daniels and Roy Brewer.
Adjutant Parsons announced that a quorum was achieved.

Officer Mentoring - all officers are encouraged to select and mentor a
member for each officer position.
Open Committees are Fund Raising Sub-Committee Chairs for Grants and
Annual Giving.
State Oratorical Update – Fred Rogers – no written report. The 2020 State
Oratorical Competition will be held on February 17, 2020 at the Collin
Community College beginning at 9am.
2020-2021 Officer elections will be held during the June, 2020 Membership
meeting. The Nominations Committee will be selected in March, 2020.

New Business
Commander Rogers asked that Ed Reed be appointed Post 178 Oratorical Committee Chair. Thor Anderson motioned to approve the appointment. Larry Marshall seconded the motion and it was approved.
Commander Rogers asked that Rick Redden be appointed Legislative Committee Chair. Larry Marshall motioned to approve the appointment. Rob Altman seconded the motion and it was approved.
Report of Post Meeting adhoc committee – Stephanie Cleveland – no written report. Rob Altman motioned to move the January membership meeting to January 23, 2020 at a location that has not been determined at present. Larry Marshall seconded the motion and it was approved. o It has been decided the January 23, 2020 Membership meeting will be
held at Kelly’s Craft Tavern, 3191 Preston Rd., Frisco (between Warren
and Gaylord next to Applebee’s) beginning at 1830. Our meet and
greet will begin at 1800. We will also have a social after the meeting at
Kelly’s.
Terry Meyering motioned to approve payment of $99.45 to Ted Ruybal for reimbursement of school awards. The motion was seconded by Rob Altman and approved.
Announcements & Correspondence - Adjutant Parsons
January 18, 2020 is clean-up day at DFW National Cemetery.
January 23, 2020 Post Membership meeting which will be held at Kelly’s
Craft Tavern, 3191 Preston Rd., Frisco (between Warren and Gaylord next
to Applebee’s) beginning at 1830. Our meet and greet will begin at 1800.
We will also have a social after the meeting at Kelly’s.
January 29, 2020 our Color Guard will conduct a rifle squad practice at the
Frisco Police Station on Stonebrook. The event will begin at1830 and is
open to anyone that might be interested in joining the Color Guard. Meet
at the front of the station prior to 1630.
February 1, 2020 is the 1st Division Oratorical Contest in Wichita Falls.
February 5 – 9, 2020 is the Department Mid-Winter Conference in Austin.
February 12, 2020 our Color Guard will conduct a rifle squad practice at
the Frisco Police Station on Stonebrook. The event will begin at1830 and
is open to anyone that might be interested in joining the Color Guard.
Meet at the front of the station prior to 1630.

February 17, 2020 is the State Oratorical Contest which will be held at
Collin College on Preston Ridge Campus, 9700 Wade Blvd., Frisco, TX
beginning at 0900.
February 25, 2020 is the 4th District Executive Committee meeting in
Mabank, TX.
Closing Ceremonies were conducted and the meeting adjourned at 2015.

BOYS STATE UPDATE
Monday, January 13, 2020
1 - Post 178 will have 29 Nominees participating in Boys State from 11 high schools. 2 - All 29 Nominees have submitted their Resumes, Name & Photo Release Forms, Personal Email and Phone Numbers, and one of their Parents Personal Email and Phone Numbers. 3 - The Boys State Committee will meet on Monday, January 20, 2020 to discuss the interviewing process. 4 - Interviews of the Nominees will begin on Monday, February 10, 2020 and end by March 6, 2020. 5 - A decision on the Individuals attending Texas Boys State will be announced around March 15, 2020. 6 - Boys State Orientation will be held on Monday, May 18,2020.
7 - Texas Boys State is June 7th through June13th.

Monday, January 13, 2020
1 – Texas Primaries (including Collin & Denton Counties) will be March 3, 2020.
Therefore, we will need to conduct Voters Registration events in January 2020
for the new registered voters to be eligible to vote in the Primaries.
2- The following Voter Registration events were conducted since the December
report:

Tuesday, January 7th from 9:00 am to 3:00 pm
- 4 new voters were registered and 1 voter completed a change of
address.
3 – We will conduct these Voters Registration events in advance of the March

School Awards ReportJanuary 2020
School Awards Program
The American Legion School Awards program is designed to introduce El-ementary, Middle school and High school students to the 6 core qualities of active citizenship. These core qualities are; Courage, Honor, Scholarship, Leadership, Service and Patriotism.
We are currently working with Corbell Elementary. This week we are dis-cussing Service and Leadership.

HONOR / COLOR GUARD UPDATE
January, 2020
1 The Color Guard participated in 2 events this past month. December 20th - Tropical Smoothie Cafe Frisco Bowl Frisco Bowl. December 21st Honor and Remember Ceremony
2. On January 17th the Honor Guard will participate in the Dr. King Oration Scholarship Gala by placing a wreath.
3. January Practice is not set yet, due to the relation of the Senior Center to its new location.

WREATHS ACROSS AMERICA UPDATE
Monday, January 13, 2020
1 - On Friday, December 13th, 7 members of Post 178 and Jonathan Martindale assisted in distributing the cases of Wreaths to the cemetery sites along the curb and street. We had the use of 2 UHaul trucks. 2 - On Saturday, December 14th, several members of Post 178 attended the Memorial Ceremony and following the
the service each of us placed a Wreath on one of the Gravesites. 3 - A total of 43,400 Wreaths were donated to be placed on all of the Gravesites. This was the first time that every Gravesite had a Wreath on it. 4 - All of the Wreaths will be pick up and discarded on Saturday, January 18, 2020. If you wish to volunteer to assist in recovering the Wreaths; please see Larry Wilhelm for details on carpooling to D/FW National Cemetery.
5 - We will have one UHaul truck to assist in picking up the Wreaths.

2019 6th Annual Post and Unit Dinner Social Held on November 16, 2019 5:00-9:00 pm
Crest Infinity Event Room Frisco, TX
This event was held at a new venue this year. The social committee received many positive comments from both post and unit members.
PLACE – Beautiful, fresh, wonderful atmosphere
TIME & DATE – Saturday night and mid-November was well accepted
ATTENDANCE – 70 people FOOD – Good quantity and quality, wide variety, healthy and well cooked
WINE – Bring you own wine worked great
COST – Total cost was $1,493.85 ($21.34 PP). Attendees paid $895.00. Post
cost was $598.85. Unit furnished decorations at approximately $30. ACTIVITIES – Raffle and Dancing
RAFFLE – Great choices of items, Price of tickets $5. or 5 for $20 worked good,
items displayed very well
ACTION ITEMS: Continue the event provided a joint committee of at least six members are willing to organize and carry out the plan.
No more than 6 raffle items and spread out over the evening Move microphone to front of room
