Division Membership Numbers
• ANYL: Second largest technical division (as of 2005)
• Membership peak in 2000, then slow but steady decline
• ACS had division membership push in late 1990’s (1998 – 2000)
– Option to join any division free for one year with Society membership
– Other marketing strategies:• Booth at national meetings
with applications for each division
• Promotional booklet with page for each Division
• Tables at regional meetings

How the ASDL & ANYL partnership for website came about -
* Chris Enke, Chair of ANYL, met with Cindy and Ted at 2006 Pittcon Orlando to propose possible ANYL and ASDL partnership in view of pending end of NSF grant support October 2008
• ANYL Executive Committee considers partnership at March 2006 Spring ANYL/ACS meeting in Atlanta, GA
• April 2006 ANYL Exec. Comm. approves proposed partnership
• Cindy Larive submits proposal to NSF/DUE for supplemental funds to support the transitional period to establish the partnership and develop a joint website (approved)
• September 2006 ANYL strategic planning session endorses partnership and established web committee
• New joint website, www.analyticalsciences.org opens in time for February 2007 Pittcon in Chicago
Results of March– Sept 2006 ANYL strategic planning
• Mission & Vision: Improving people’s lives through the transforming power of analytical chemistry and promoting the community of analytical scientists
1. Improve communication among members and the public (website, etc.)
* Create comprehensive interactive dynamic up-to-date website (two-tier)
* Sponsor the Analytical Sciences Digital Library
2. Enhance relationships/partnerships with industry, other organizations and other parts
of the ACS: expand professional development
3. Offer a richer mix of members, programmatic activities and offerings
4. Restructure governance so as to implement strategic plan
(A working group was identified for each of the above items)
