    Year of Report 2010-2011

    Part A The plan of action chalked out by the IQAC in the beginning of the year and outcome

    achieved by the end of the year.

    The action plan chalked out by IQAC in the beginning of the academic year 2010-11 was as

    follows-

    1) To tap research funding for Major and Minor Research Project from UGC and other

    agencies.

    2) Organization of National Level seminar by Hindi Department and Marathi

    Department.

    3) Improvement in the infrastructure facilities as per requirements.

    4) To purchase learning resources for science faculty.

    5) To strengthen best practices like mentoring, quality circle etc.

    6) Short term courses for women students by MITCON and Agriculture College,

    Lanja.

    7) To strengthen activities of Alumni Association.

    8) To provide placement services to the students through campus interview.

    THE OUTCOMES OF THE PLAN CHALKED BY IQAC FOR THE ACADEMIC

    YEAR 2010-11.

    1. New Academic Programme Started -

    From the year 2009-10, science faculty was started on 100 percent grant-

    in –aid basis with two groups which are as follows

    Group A- Computer Science, Mathematics and Statistics

    Group B- Chemistry, Botany, and Zoology during the year 2010-11,

    During the year 2010-11, MA Hindi programme was started at post-

    graduate level whereas, for MA Marathi, LIC committee of Mumbai

    University has visited for granting approval.

    2. Tapping of Research Funds -

    During the year 2010-11, two minor research projects sponsored by BCUD,

    University of Mumbai were completed. One minor research project proposal and

    three major research project proposals are sent to UGC for approval.

    3. During the year, workshop on revised syllabus of Marathi was organized in

    collaboration with Board of Studies, Marathi. Zoology Department has also

    organized convention-2011, in collaboration with Board of Studies, Mumbai

    University on Revised syllabus and Credit Grading and Semester System.

    4. Two proposals have been sent to the UGC for approval of grant for organization of

    National level seminars in Marathi and Hindi.

    5. Development of Infrastructure facilities made as per necessity of various

    departments.

    6. To strengthen mentoring system, total students were allocated in groups to obtain

    information about skills, hobbies, family background of the students and problems

    of the students. Accordingly, steps were taken to solve the problems and to nurture

    and enrich the skills among the students.

    Activities Carried Out During the Year 2010-11.

    1. New Academic Programme Initiated -

    LIC committee has visited for evaluation purpose for granting

    permission to introduce the said course.

    2. Innovations in Curricular Design and Transactions -

    As college is affiliated to Mumbai University, there is limited scope for

    curricular design to the college. However, some of the faculty members are the

    members of Board of Studies in their respective subjects. During the meetings of Board

    of Studies and workshops on revised syllabus, our faculty members contributed by

    expressing their views, ideas and opinions about restructuring and implementation of

    the syllabus.

    Along with usual lecture methods following methods have been used by the

    faculty.

    .

    Organization of study tours by Zoology Department to study importance of

    biodiversity, biodiversity conservation, biodiversity losses and management of

    biodiversity.

    Along with the lecture method other methods like Power Point Presentation,

    digital photographs, showing of movies related to curriculum, documentary

    films on animals behavior and animal taxonomy on discovery , animal planet

    and national geography channels etc. have been used for creating interest and

    better understanding to the students.

    Study tours were arranged by various departments for acquiring practical

    knowledge about tourism places, forts, industries, various environmental factors

    etc.

    3. Examination Reforms Implemented -

    The institution conducts an examinations as per the rules and regulations of the

    Mumbai University. Along with examination pattern suggested by the university,

    college also conducts terminal examination, preliminary examination, class tests and

    tutorials etc. as a part of internal evaluation.

    4. Initiatives Towards Faculty Development Programme -

    The institute provides financial assistance for participation in the workshops and

    seminars. The faculty members also motivated to complete orientation and refresher

    courses.

    4. Organization of Workshops/ Seminars for faculty development

    On behalf of IQAC workshop was organized for the faculty on the subjects

    How to write a Good Research Paper ?

    Use of ICT in the Teaching Methodology.

    Science, Satara.

    Staff Academy

    Staff academy is one of the best platform for the faculty to express their views

    on social problems, recent trends in their respective subjects and to discuss on various

    subjects. It is beneficial for enrichment of knowledge in various subjects and to discuss

    various issues freely and frankly.

    In collaboration with Board of Studies Zoology, Mumbai University.

    One day convention was organized successfully on the revised syllabus. In this

    session, Hon. Vice- Chancellor, Mumbai University, Dr. Rajan Velukar, Chairman,

    of BOS, Prof. Vinayak Dalvi have addressed to the delegates.

    On behalf of Competitive Examination Department, one day workshop was

    organized for the students of competitive examination department. In this

    workshop, 126 students were participated. Dr. B. T. Jadhav from Yashwantrao

    Chavan Science College, Satara and Mr. Rupesh Gangan have guided the students.

    In this seminar, guidance was given to the participants regarding nature of various

    competitive examinations, interview techniques etc.

    Participation in the various workshops / seminars/ conventions -

    Faculty members contributed in the various workshops, seminars and conventions

    at the state, national and international level by presenting research papers, as an

    2. In the Avishkar Research Convention organized by the Mumbai University, the

    project presented by the Commerce Department was selected at the elimination

    round at Ratnagiri District zonal level for presentation at the University level.

    Projects of the Life Long Learning and Extension Department

    The participants of this department have prepared various career oriented

    projects, projects relating to the information technology and projects on various

    social issues like AIDs, water pollution, unemployment, poverty, students

    suicide etc.

    During the Udan Festival, students have participated in the street play, poster

    making competition etc.

    Projects Undertaken by the Students of Botany Department

    1. On behalf of the students of Botany Department , various projects have been

    undertaken like plantation of medicinal plants, study of Sacred Groves, Herbal

    Cosmetics, Orchids etc.

    2. Flora of Lanja College -

    Under this project, 150 plant species have been recorded in the premises of Lanja

    College. It includes herbs, shrubs, climbers, lianas and trees. The important feature

    of flora is record of rare and endemic orchid's species.

    3. Orchidium -

    To develop the orchidium in the college premises, collection and maintenance of

    various species of orchids has been already started. For development of Herbal

    Garden, plantation of various medicinal plants is already done in the college

    premises.

    4. Development of Nursery -

    In the college premises, nursery of arboreal (trees) plants is in process.

    7. Research Grant Received From Various Agencies -

    Three major research proposals from department of Marathi, Botany and Zoology and

    one minor research proposal from department of Commerce have been sent for

    approval of grant to the UGC.

    11. Internal resources generated -

    Bank of Maharashtra sponsored Rs. 5,000 for celebration of Hindi Pakhawada.

    12. Community services:

    National Service Scheme - Rural reconstruction camp was organized at Javade-Rawari for the period

    from 25th

    November 2010 to 1st December, 2010. During this residential

    camp 10 vanrai bandharas were constructed. Free health check up camp was

    organized. Along with various session of social issues workshop on honey-

    bee keeping and swara abhiyaan were organized during the period of seven

    days.

    Red Ribbon Club

    This club has been established by NSS unit. Various competitions like

    elocution competition, essay competition, poster-making competition etc

    were organized .

    For the teenagers‟ female students guidance sessions were arranged as a

    project “ Vayat Yetana”. In this project female volunteers of NSS

    department have guided to the female students of 8th

    to 10th

    standards

    regarding health, hygiene, psychological changes etc.

    Voluntary Social Service

    This is an activity for all the students. It consists of cleaning of inside area

    of college campus and the play ground.

    From 20th

    Aug. 2010 to 3rd

    September,2010 “ Sadhabhavan

    Pandharwada’ was celebrated by the NSS department. On this occasion

    various competitions like essay, poster making etc were organized on the

    subject “ National Integrity”.

    During the academic year 2010-11, 200 students were enrolled in the NSS.

    NSS volunteers have undertaken various projects like wormiculture project,

    modern techniques of farming, women empowerment, environment

    protection etc.

    Wild- Live week was celebrated from 1st October to 7

    th October, 2010. On

    this occasion District Level Street Play Competition was organized on the

    subject “ Save Tigers” and “ Wild Lives Protection”.

    Assistance in the Registration of New Voters Mission

    Our college has actively participated in this mission by registering 100

    students as a new voters.

    Contribution of the Faculty

    Dr. Vikrant Berde

    Delivered lecture on "Beekeeping" in the state level workshop

    organized by Vidya Pratishtan‟s School of Biotechnology.

    In this workshop, the Government officers, forest officers,

    farmers and administrators from private sector were present at a

    large numbers.

    Conducted training programme for the farmers in the Lanja

    Taluka on “ Bee Keeping and Honey Bee Processing” in

    A guidance session was conducted of the T.Y.B.Com. students

    of Navnirman College, Ratnagiri.

    Guidance session was conducted regarding the female workers,

    working in the Ratnagiri Krishi Prakirya Sanstha, Gavane.

    Chief Guest of the Prize Distribution Competition, Asage.

    Prof. Dhananjay Kshirsagar

    Delivered a lecture on “ Consumers Rights in India” in the

    programme organized by the office of Lanja Tahasil on the

    celebration of Consumers Day.

    21. Computer and Internet Access and Training to the Students -

    Computer sets are provided to the Heads of various departments. Internet facilities are

    available in the computer laboratory, library and office. Faculty and students can access

    it as per requirements.

    Financial incentives are offered to the students in the form of prizes, free ships,

    scholarships etc. College has also allowed the students to pay the in convenient

    23. Activities and Support from the Alumni Association -

    On behalf of Alumni Association, a well known play “ Jau Bai Jorat” was

    organized. The fund collected from the show was donated to the society, which

    will be worth contributing for infrastructure development.

    Our two alumni‟s Mr. Sanjay Tendulkar and Mr. Rajesh Shetye are contributing

    in the progress of the college as a member of Board of Directors of New

    Education Society, Lanja.

    In addition to these activities, alumni association is playing always crucial role

    by offering suggestions for overall development of the institution through their

    meetings.

    24. Activities and Support from the Parent – Teacher Association -

    Two parent teachers meetings were held during the academic year dated on 30/08/10

    and 1/02/11. During these meetings parents have expressed their views and

    expectations from the institution which proved very much useful for further

    development.

    25. Health Services

    A first aid centre is functioning in the College. Necessary medicines, band-aids and

    other first aid materials are stocked so as to meet an emergency.

    26. Performance in the Sport Activities

    In the sports competition organized by Mumbai University Kho-kho team of

    our college entered in super eight after qualifying in the elimination round in the

    Ratnagiri and Sindhudurg Districts i.e. Zonal Level Competition

    In the Inter- collegiate Cricket Competition our college team has stood first at

    zonal level.

    In the Raigad Tracking Competition our college team has placed 5th Rank.

    During the year, sport department has organized various competitions like kho-

    kho, athletics, cricket, chess etc.

    27. Incentives to Outstanding Sport Persons -

    Arrangement of special coach, refreshments, kit, first aid, financial assistance to

    the poor students having outstanding performance etc.

    Free food and accommodation to the poor students participating in the college

    sports team.

    Ms. Kavita Shigam from T.Y.B.A. won third prize in the "District Level

    Competitive Examination" organized on the occasion of “ Govindrao Nikam

    Smrutidin”

    Miss Priyanka Surve has won prize of Rs. 3,000 in the Seth Walchand

    Hirachand Memorial Elocution Competition

    Ms. Kavita Shigam:- "Talent of the Year" award of the competitive

    examination department.

    In the District Level Street Play Competition organized on the theme “ Save

    Tigers” and “ Wild Lives Protection, our NSS volunteers team has placed 2nd

    place.

    Miss Rakhee Desai was felicitated by "s" by the NSS department for her

    outstanding performance as a volunteer.

    Miss Priyanka Surve has got first prize in the Late Nana Vanjare Inter-collegiate

    Elocution Competition organized by Arts, Commerce and Science College,

    Lanja.

    Mr. Mohan Rathod has felicitated by consolation prize in the state level

    elocution competition

    Mr. Mohan Rathod and Mr. Vilas Sutar have won first prize in the P.P. Swami

    Swaroopanand inter-collegiate elocution competition at the state level.

    Miss Kavita Sidam stood first in the Gandhi Sanskar examination organized for

    the Ratnagiri district by the Gandhi Research Foundation, Jalgaon.

    29. Activities of the Guidance and Counseling Unit -

    Apart from class room teaching, the teachers have accepted the commitment

    towards students community. It includes imparting proper guidance about the

    scope of various higher courses, especially job oriented, and making available

    to them various job opportunities as much as possible. In View of this, our

    competitive examination department has organized workshop for career

    guidance to the students.

    Special campaign to enhance newspapers reading habits

    On behalf of the Political Science department, students were motivated to buy

    and to read the newspapers. The students have collected important articles and

    other material, from which group discussions were conducted.

    30. Placement Services Provided to the Students -

    HCL Co. has organized campus interviews for the T.Y.B.Com students. Along with

    this, faculty act as a mediator between the students and industries located in the Lanja

    Tahasil for providing job opportunities as per requirement of these industries.

    31. Development Programme for Non-teaching Staff -

    For non-teaching staff a session was organized on “ Stress Management”

    Resource Person- Prof. Rahul Marathe

    Some of the staff members attended workshops and seminars organized by the

    offices of the Joint Director and University of Mumbai.

    32. Healthy Practices of the Institution -

    On behalf of Prajapita Brabhakumari Viswavidyalay, a guidance session was

    arranged for the students on the subject “ Positive Personality”

    Celebration of birthdays of faculty and staff

    Tea club of employees

    Celebration of “ Gurupournima “ is a traditional practice of our college in

    which, students honoured to the faculty as well as staff as a Guru.

    During the year birth and death anniversaries of national heroes, social

    reformers, well known writers and novelist were celebrated.

    Sarswati Pujan was celebrated in the college.

    HINDI SABHA

    On behalf of Hindi department, Hindi Sabha is working effectively in our

    college. Its aim is to create awareness about Hindi language and Hindi

    literature among the students at college as well as highschool and primary

    school levels. On behalf of this, Hindi Din and Hindi Fortnight were celebrated

    to familiar Hindi language among the students.

    Celebration of “ Hindi Pakhawada” during the period 14th Sept. 2010 to 28th

    September, 2010. For celebration of “ Hindi Pakhawada”, Bank of

    Maharashtra, Lanja branch has sponsored Rs. 5,000.

    Sessions were arranged to express an importance of Hindi language as a

    National language during the Hindi Fortnight

    Organized session for the students of commerce department on behalf

    of commerce association on the topic “ enrichment of knowledge for

    employability “

    Organization of Inter-class Group discussion competition

    Workshop on Practical Knowledge of banking transactions

    A workshop was organized for imparting knowledge regarding the banking

    transactions. In this workshop, managers of the scheduled banks have given

    information with practical relating to banking transactions.

    Competitive Examination Department

    On behalf of Competitive Examination Department workshop was

    organized for the students, for imparting information relating to the

    nature and procedure of various competitive examinations, how to

    prepare for examination and how to face interviews etc.

    On behalf of this department guidance sessions were also arranged on

    various subjects during the year.

    Marathi Literary Association

    Organisation of various competitions were held like self composed poems,

    quiz competition, translation competition etc. Along with this various activities

    were performed like preparation of posters on various issues, guidance on

    improving Marathi writing skills, organization of group discussion etc.

    Science Association

    Organization of study tours, implementation of various research projects,

    participation in various quiz competitions etc activities were performed during

    the year by the science association.

    Organization Of Avishkar Research Competition

    The Avishkar Research Convention 2010-11 for Ratnagiri zone was organized

    in the college. In this competition 33 research project were presented by the

    undergraduate and post-graduate students in the Ratnagiri district.

    Celebration of Annual Gathering -

    Various competitions were organized by sports department and cultural

    department.

    Prize distribution program was organized.

    Various events like dancing, singing, acting were performed by the students on

    this occasion.
