The Message of the Church

Revelation 2-3

1. The Ephesus Church Rev 2:1-7 and Parable of the Sower Matt. 13:1-23• The church will evangelize but there will not be universal reception of divine truth.• The church will be great on doctrine and labor but will lose it’s love for God which will eventually result in spiritual apathy, then love of things of the world, compromise, and then a loss of effective testimony.

2. The Smyrna Church Rev 2:8-11 and Parable of the Wheat and Tares Matt. 13:24-30• The church will have enemies from without.• The church will have enemies from within.

3. The Pergamos Church Rev 2:12-17 and Parable of the Mustard Seed Matt. 13:31-32• The church will marry itself with the government/Babylonian system. •This intermarriage caused believers to compromise and accept pagan practices into Christendom. • This marriage will cause the church to immensely grow organizationally and economically.

4. The Thyatira Church Rev 2:18-29 and Parable of the Leaven Matt. 13:33-35• This professing church is entirely permeated

with false doctrine and unbelief manifested by various forms of wickedness and worldliness.• The professing church will continue in the

world after the true Church (the Body of Christ) is taken out at the time of the Rapture.• The Jezebel aspect is the Catholic Church

5. The Sardis Church Rev 3:1-6 and Parable of the Hidden Treasure Matt. 13:33-35• This church is dead with only a remnant

believers in it. • This church will also be left behind when

the Rapture occurs and will go through the Tribulation since its members are not saved.• The church will save a Jewish remnant.

Jewish evangelism took off late during this period.

6. The Philadelphia Church Rev 3:7-13 and Parable of the Pearl of Great Value Matt. 13:45-46• Great evangelism will take place during this

period •This church will have a remnant of saved

Gentiles • This is the true church of saved believers

which will be removed before the Tribulation in the Rapture.

7. The Laodicean Church Rev 3:14-21 and Parable of the Dragnet. Matt. 13:47-50• This last period represents the church of apostasy and cults. •This is a professing church but they do not

posses salvation. • Jesus will separate the true believers

(Philadelphia and the Remnant of Sardis) and leave behind professing believers from the Jezebel aspect (Catholic Church), Sardis (dead Protestantism) and the Laodicean church of apostasy.

Rewards 1. Overcomers eat from the Tree of Life2. Crown of Life, 2nd death will not occur3. Eat hidden manna, white stone, new

name written on that stone4. Reign and Rule (poimanei) in the

Millennium and have Jesus’ presence forever starting at the Rapture.

5. White robes, not be blotted out of the book of life, confession before the Father.

Rewards 6. Kept from the Tribulation, Pillar in

the Temple, the name of God, the name of the city of God, and a new name.

7. Fellowship with Him, and shares His throne.
