There was something of an upset in theQatar Cup when SAMIMA, bred andtrained by Karen Van Den Bos for theRoyal Cavalry of Oman, took control ofthe race from the outset and gamelyclinched victory by a neck.
This was a hot contest which saw AlShaqab's superstar Al Mourtajez lose hisunbeaten record -Thomas Fourcy'scharge was a disappointing fifth.
Antoine Hamelin proved to be anexemplary judge of pace, the maretravelled smoothly in front, keeping tothe rail, whilst Al Mourtajez stayed wideand though perfectly positioned tochallenge in the home straight, his
trademark acceleration was lacking onthis occasion. Lorra looked the biggestdanger, pressing Van Den Bos's chargein the straight and the two mares drewclear, but she was held by Samima.
Perhaps the biggest hard luck story wasTM Thunderstruck who got boxed inand had to go around horses for a clearrun. He was doing all his best work atthe finish and the line came a stride toosoon. The distances were a neck and anose and as they all hold entries for theQatar Arabian World Cup, it promisesto be an exciting renewal. The entriesalso include last year's winner DjainkaDes Forges, and the Triple Crownseeking Sir Bani Yas.

The Sultanate of Oman Raceday is one ofthe most popular fixtures of the AROseason and though crowds may have beenslightly down on last year there was still agood family atmosphere on course.Windsor’s unique track layout meant thatthere were four 6 furlong contests andwhilst the forecast heavy rain nevermaterialised, the overcast conditions neverthreatened to put a damper on the day’sevents.
The meeting opened with a six furlongmaiden and provided an ideal opportunity
for Kathy and Paul Smoke’s homebred coltSTORM TROUPOUR to get off the mark atthe fourth attempt. He had been placedon his debut in the States and in the UKwhen a respectable second toKatonahotinroof MHF at Newbury.
Sent of the 5-4 favourite, he had them introuble with a furlong to go and wongoing away for Steve Harrison. A first UKwinner for his owner – breeders and also afirst UK winner for his trainer StephaneLeveque who started training earlier thisyear from his base in Newmarket.

A restricted maiden followed, againover 6f and produced a turn up whenthe odds on Warko Du Cayrou failed toshine. Ducking out to the left andlosing his position at the start, he neverlooked at ease, he could only managethird behind interesting newcomerMUSIQUE DU SOLEIL and NiscarDiamond Jubilee.
Peter Hammersley had not long hadthe filly in his stable, having been in pretraining in France for her owner-breeders Mrs and MrsKippen and their Du Soleil Stud.
She certainly knew her job, taking it up
at the halfway marker, she stuck to therail and ran out a three length winnerfrom Niscar Diamond Jubilee, withWarko Du Cayrou a further two and ahalf lengths back in third.
It is three years since they have had arunners in the UK and Mrs Kippen waspleased with her filly's debut win. The longest race of the meetingconcluded the day. All the runnershaving previously met at Bath in July, the market felt that it was UltimateForce’s opportunity to gain revenge onSenor Dublcheck for being beaten by anose on that occasion. However hehad other ideas, bronking to the startwhere he got hung up in the stallstape, unshipped Steve Harrison, whowas hopeful of a five-timer, and had tobe withdrawn.
This left the way clear for VINDETTA tofinally get off the mark at thefourteenth time of asking. Considereda handicap ‘good thing’ at the start ofthe season, she had been running well
without winning. Filling the third spotin the race at Bath she had been triedin a variety of headgear and the first-time visor seemed to work the oraclehere.

An extremely competitive handicap. Atthe time of writing Maghazi, Tokhil andMan Of Dreams have yet to run atHuntingdon in the Dubai InternationalArabian Races Gold Final. So theshape of the race may change a little.
In particular a victory for Maghazi, should be noted who has the currentleading apprentice jockey TomMarquand booked. His two otherstable companions are also veryinteresting, of that pair Kao Kat MHF ispreferred. He's gone up 16lb for twovictories here in the UK,
sandwiched in between them was agood effort in Group company inBelgium and further progression couldsee him go very close.
Altello is a fascinating UK debutantandarrives here with some decent form inFrance, having finished 5lengthsbehind Meeyur in the Prix Damas Gr 3PA in at Dax at the end of May. Hisyard has had a good season so hemust be respected.

twelfth trainers title has a strong handwith three of the 11 runners.
Of those three, Jabal Aly and Naarlook the pair to concentrate on. Theyfinished fifth and sixth respectivelywhen last seen in a mile handicap atNewbury.
Naar is the lighter raced of the two andis capable of better than she showedon her handicap debut that day. Shemight not have handled conditions atNewbury on that occasion. The samecan also be said for top weight JABALALY who has also been lightly racedthis season, but enough to think thereis still plenty of improvement to comeand he's the pick in a very trappycontest.

2.00 Shadwell Maiden Stakes3+ PA 1m2f
An interesting maiden. The twojuveniles Selketh and Zahwah makeplenty of appeal. Zahwah is a well brednewcomer from the yard of three timeQatari Champion Trainer Jassim AlGhazali, as she is a half sister to TopRated Arabian Djainka Des Forges anda full sister to Gidwa.
Selketh improved dramatically from herdebut effort to finish runner up in aGroup 2 contest at Newbury in July. At
this stage of their careers it will take adecent effort to win over 10 furlongs.
Emiraaty is respected as a secondstring for Champion Trainer GillDuffield, but the pick is SUNBULLA forthe same stable. She didn't quite gethome over a mile and a half atHereford last time out and the stepdown in trip here looks ideal.

Most have these have met each otherat various stages of the season.
Tiger Lily showed a good attitude toget off the mark on her most recentrun at Hereford and the slight rise inthe weights won't stop a decentshowing here.
With Top Trip in the line up, this islikely to be run at a respectable pacewhich will suit Callymay, Crown OfSalona and Senor Dublcheck.
A chance though is taken onULITMATE FORCE who wears cheekpieces for the first time. Unlucky whengetting caught up in the stalls tape, unseating, bolting and subsequentlywithdrawn at Windsor, he can makeamends here and get off the mark atthe fifth attempt.

Three strong candiates from the GillDuffield stable for His Highness.Aljawaaher and Azizi are stout stayersand neither will want this to becometoo tactical, so perhaps the former islikely to make the running.
Tawaazun won impressively atNewbury on her seasonal debut beforefinishing sixth in a Group 1 contest atthe same track more recently. She hassome top class form in the book andrunning in the first colours, with Phil
Collington on board, is obviously thestable choice.
However VETLANA DE FAUST's formis slightly better and she tops them allon ratings. With an entry in the QatarArabian World Cup she can take this enroute to Longchamp on her UK debut.

An extremely competitive contest. Thisis Syrah Gris's easiest task for quitesome time and if he stays, he's certainto go close.
Noble Athlete has sound claims, as doKermit The Frog and Whisper asthey've all had decent seasons, whilstthe maiden Kallista is less exposed thansome of the others and is still open toplenty of improvement.
However a chance is taken onGELLIWEN who seems to thrive at thistime of the season. She's won the lasttwo renewals of this race (atWolverhampton last year and atHereford in 2013) and she's now backdown to last years' winning mark.

Those towards to the top of theweights usually fair very well in thisrace.Tokhil will prefer todays extra distanceand has the ability to go close sincereceiving some respite from thehandicapper. The first time blinkers are aninteresting addition to Spirited Game, however stamina could be an issue andwas sixth in this last year atWolverhampton.Whilst the consistent Maazin, (who was
second in this race last year), Man OfDreams (last), Sharaf and ZayinZachillies (third) also have to beconsidered. The selection goes to MAGHAZI whowon this race off a one pound highermark back in 2010 at Warwick. Hasbeen running well all season and comeshere on the back of a confidenceboosting victory at Hereford twoweeks ago.

Wahiba has shown enough early pacein three maiden runs to date tosuggest she'll be competitive now inhandicap company. Just The Ticket hasbeen brought along gradually and likeWahiba, might improve further, havingjust missed the frame on his handicapdebut at this level last time out.
Whilst Eau Jember will find this easier,he is a long standing maiden. RochesDu Cayrou has been a grand servant, who has been very consistent, but thetrip is a concern.
So SAMAURING ZAYIN is the pick. Shereturned from the paddocks to finish arespectable second last time followinga 1091 day absence. The first timecheek pieces may also help her here, asall her win and place form is overfurther.
