ANDERSON I need information concerning Robert Anderson, a Civil War soldier who isr('1ported to

have lived in Culpeper, Van Buren Co .• Ark. A check of the pension records did not reveal information. It is said that he lived with a sister in Culpeper at the time of his death about 1907-10. He is reported to have been an officer serving from the state of Mississippl in. the battles of Bull's Run and Shiloh, moving to Arkansas following the end of the war.

BIRD - GUYTON - SMITH - WHITAKER My gr-grandfather, Abraham Guyton Bird, born Mar. 22,1823, S. C., died Aug. 11,1864,

in a Civil War prison at Rock Island, Illinois. He married Martha Dees, Nov. 26', 1857, Co­lumbia Co., Ark. His father's name may have been John, James or Joseph Bird, married Mary "Polly" Guyton, moved to Alabama, maybe Pickens Co. ~aid to have died.in northern Arkansas with relatives, Birds, Guytons, Smiths or Whitakers. These families seem to move together, but do not find definite records on the Birds.

This is how these families are connected: Joseph Guyton married Hanna Whitaker. Their son, Abraham Guyton, born 1765, died 1816, S. C., married Martha "patsy" -Ellis, born 1769, died 1838, Union District, S. C. Three of his sisters married Smiths, sons of Henry and Catherine Smith. Mary "Polly" Guyton, daughter of Abraham, born 1800, married --- Bird, had son, Abraham Guyton Bird. Would like to hear from anyone with these na.mes.

I am trying to locate a cemetery in or near Helena, Ark. that would have been in use as early as 1855. I am interested in finding out about a Richard E. Davidson who died in 1855. Also his Wife, Isabella, who I think possibly died ca 1862·64, and also a two-year-old child, Izilla McKay, who died there in June, 1861. I know this child was a child of my grandparents, Thomas Henry McKay and Fanny McKay, and am trying to establish the relationship of Isa­bella to them. My grandparents lived in Helena at the tIme of the 1860 census and are listed in the household of Isabella Davidson. They left Helena in 1862-63, moved to Prairie Co., where my grandfather was killed by raiders who went through the country raiding, killing and plundering after the war was over. Would like to contact anyone who has cemetery records.

My gr-grandfather, Elijah Fraser, was married to Holland Sandifer on May 1, 1850 in Henderson or Webster Co., Ky. They were married at the home of J. H. Sandefer by Elder Miles- Fraser. They. moved to Independence Co., Ark. near Newport ca 1862. I would appreciate any information on this family, especially prior to these dates.

GAR'NER - BARNES

Need parents of Emily Barnes who married James Lambert Garner on Nov. 13, 1850 at his mother's home in Dardanelle, Ark. According to fa~ly history, she had a twin brother, JAmes, and her mother's maiden name was Coffee or Coffey.

Also, need help on James Lambert Garner's parents. His mother's name was Rebecca, and according to family history, her maiden name was' Parker, the sister of Henry Sharpe Parker. Was Rebecca Garner the same one who married a John Franklin on May 11, 1848? James .and Emily Garner named their seventh child John Franklin Garner. James Lambert Garner had an older sister, Dionisha. They called her Mintie and she married a John. Poin­dexter, who died leaving two sons; she then married Zack Baker. Zack Baker was killed during the Civil War, as was the oldest Poindexter son. I will be willing to help on these lines, as I have access to this information.

NEFF - STEELE I am trying to locate the cemetery and date of death of Elizabeth Steele Neff, who died

ca 1900-02 at age ca 73. She is supposed to be buried in a cWnetery in the southeastern part of Little Rock on the Sweet Home road. Can someone tell me what cemetery this might be?

I understand there is or was a school in Little Rock at 12th and State Streets, named Fort Steele and that it was named after a relative of Elizabeth (Steele) Neff. Su):lposedly , he was a ''Yankee'' general in the Civil War. Where might I be able to find information on this?

Georgia or South Carolina, died 1848 in Talladega, Ala. while Presiding Elder of Tuscaloosa District. He married Cynthia Hardwick, daughter of Garland and Susan (Venable) Hardwick. Their seven sons, Charles D., Francis Asbury, Emery Summerfield, Fletcher Clarke, Bas­combe T., William Wesley and Watson Harrell were Methodist preachers in Texas, Missis­sippi, Arkansas and Tennessee. township, Marion County. He lived and died in Flippen, Arkansas. He was a Confederate soldier, what unit? His-wife was Carolyn. Sue Champion. I would like to know where he was born, who his parents were, when his wife died, any other information.

SKELTON John Skelton, born Carroll Co., Ark., Apr. 18,1847, died Beaver, Ark., Jan. 24, 1939,

buried Goody Cemetery. He was a Civil War veteran, married Hannah Walden (or Wallen), had two sons, Bill and Jim, one daughter, Mary Elizabeth (Lizzie), who married Mondo Guy Logsdon. Father of John was James Henry Skelton, reportedly born in Dublin. Ireland, date not known. Married twice, first wife unknown, second wife was Molly Curry. They had six sons and six daughters. These children remained in that area and married into the families of Roller, Gaskins, Scroggins, Lundy, Weston and Walden. Would appreoiate any information on any of these families.

TA LIA FERRO My gr-gr-grandfather was Dr. John Taliaferro. The 1880 census of DeKalbtwp., Grant

Co., Ark. says he was born in MissiSSippi. My great-aunt, Ellen (Taliaferro) Lee Miller, says Dr. John Taliaferro was buried at Mt. Carmel Cemetery, 5 miles south of Hot Springs, but there is no marked stone there now. His son, John Samuel Taliaferro, was born in Louisiana Mar. 15, 1858, died Oct. 18, 1891, married Eliza Jane Duvall on Dec. 4, 1879 in Grant Co. ,Ark. Would like any information about ancestry of this family.

TURNER - HUNTER - JONES - BROCK James Turner was born on Turner's Island somewhere in Virginia between 1780 and

1790, was married for the second time to Kisiah Hunter in Lebanon, Tenn. in 1817. They moved to what was then Union County but is now Bradley County, Ark. in 1832.

David Jones, born in Raleigh, N. C. ca 1816, moved with his parents to Arkansas in 1830 with 30 wagon loads of household furnishings. His Wife, Nancy Brock, wa~ oorn in Mobile, Ala. in 1826, daughter of Lewis Brock, born in 1800 in Tenn. and an Indian or part :tndian woman who was born in Alabama. I do not know where David and Nancy Jon.es were married, but they lived in both Union and Bradley counties in 1850, 18.60 and 1870. Nan.cy Jones was still living in 1900; her husband died between 1870 and 1880. . Any information appreciated.

ANNUAL MEETING OF AGS TO BE HE LD OCTOBER 15th

October 15, 1972 at 1 :15 p. m. is the date of the Annual Meeting of the Arkansas Genea­logical Society. The place is Trieschman Hall on the campus of Hendrix College in Conway, Arkansas. Since 1972 is the lOth birthday of the Society, special events are being planned.

An excellent program is shaping up with Russell Baker of Little Rock and Mrs. R. E. Warren of Smackover as speakers. Mr. Baker is Archivist at Arkansas History Commis­sion and will acquaint the audience with some of the activities of his department.

Mrs. Warren is an Arkansas genealOgist of great merit. She is c~osely associated with the.genealogical activities of the Latter Day Saints Church and has taught classes in geneal­ogy. She plans to provide some excellent tips for doing research.

Refreshments will be served. . A Dutch-Treat Luncheon at Holiday Inn at 12:00 noon will be held for all present and

past officers and directors. The Board of Directors will hold their quarterly meeting at Holiday Inn on October 15th at 10:00 a. m.

Mark your calendar for October 15, 1972 and plan to attend and bring a friend. You won't want to miss this one.
