Making Data Look Cool
These data visualizations are more commonly referred to as
infographics, or visual representations such as a chart or
diagram used to represent both information and data.
Infographics make information and data simpler and easier for audiences to read and understand quickly.

Statistics show that only 20% of what is read is actually retained by the
reader, which makes sense since over 90% of the information
transmitted through the brain is visual.

Communicating with Infographics
Everyone has a message, the hard part is building it into a
story and telling it in a way that it can be understood
quickly and clearly by anyone and everyone.
Too many words on the page or screen can distract an
audience from the true message and the story you are
trying to tell.
Infographics will help to simplify your message and
illustrate your story.
How do I make
infographics for my
presentations?
How to Make Infographics
1. • Decide what story you want to tell.
2. • Gather the data that supports your story.
3. • Create an outline for your story.
4.
• Develop graphics to support your story from your data and information using SmartArt.
Microsoft SmartArt
SmartArt is a built-in tool available
in Microsoft PowerPoint and Word.
It provides an instant solution for
presenters to convert their text into
graphics.
These preformatted, editable
diagrams can be used to show:
Lists Relationships
Processes Matrixes
Cycles Pyramids
Hierarchies
Using SmartArt
SmartArt is native to the ribbon toolbar of Word and
PowerPoint. To access:
STEP 1: Click the Insert Tab
