Porte d’Aval and the Needle Location: Cliff’s of Étretat Upper Normandy, France 2012

Claud Monet’s “Étretat: Sunset.” 1883

The photograph to the left was taken by Texas State research students at the exact location of Monet’s painting at the Cliff and Needle of Normandy. Taking into account the location of the setting sun and tide waters, the research students were able to determine the precise moment that Monet was inspired. Which was February 5th, 1883 at 4;53, give or take a minute.
