Relaunch of Asbury Connect is coming …

The church directory is not quite finished, but soon it will provide a secure place where we can connect with one another more effectively, and group leaders can communicate with members of their groups easily. It will enable access to:

• a church directory

• a calendar of upcoming events

• announcements, news items, and prayer requests

• documents to view, print, or download

• web links to explore and much, much more. For the time being, our current, public web site, AsburyMemorial.org, will continue to

exist in its present form.

!!! Exciting News !!!

We have some exciting changes coming this fall with our Children’s Ministry in the

way of new programming, additional volunteers and even new staff! The Staff &

Parish Relations Committee and Church Council have voted to add the position of

Children & Family Ministries’ Director.

We are excited about the changes to come and are looking forward to a great year!

PURPOSE OF POSITION

To develop and nurture children in the Christian faith and to build a strong sense of community among families, increasing our outreach, hospitality, and faith formation with

families and children. This role will focus not only on implementing programs, but on empowering individuals to use and grow their gifts by volunteering time and resources to

support children’s ministry.

Course in Miracles Facilitator: Rev. Marilyn Leigh

Thursdays 4:30 to 6 p.m.

The Course in Miracles study group is dedicated to the study and practical application of A Course in Miracles to our daily lives. Our group allows the Course to guide us in becoming and expressing the Love that is the truth about us. It teaches the true meaning of forgiveness and challenges us to put God first in our lives.

A Course in Miracles is an open group; you may join at any time. The only thing that you need is the Third edition of A Course in Miracles, which includes the text, work-book, teacher’s manual and two pamphlets. It is available from the facilitator, Rever-end Marilyn Leigh or may be obtained from Barnes and Noble or as an eBook from Am-azon. Join us as we journey together to God, the journey with no distance.

We meet on Thursdays at 4:30 P.M. in The Asbury Memorial social hall. All are wel-come. Contact Rev. Leigh by email at [email protected] with any questions.

Mission Moments June 2017

Many thanks for all of the medical supplies donated to our friends in the Dominican Republic. Six cases have been sent and a second shipment is being prepared for delivery. Sandy Golden and Mary Ann Barnes are appreciated for all of their hard work.

Many children depend on the breakfast and lunch programs provided throughout the school year for nourishment. Now that summer break is here many families struggle to fill the nutritional gap need-ed to sustain them. Several stores offer “buy one get one” (BOGO) free items. Please take advantage of these promotions and donate the additional item to the church. Most needed foods are: peanut butter, jelly, canned meats and vegetables and unsweetened cereals. Donated items will be delivered to True Light Pentecostal Church, across the street from Asbury’s parking lot.

Study Groups & Fellowship Groups Asbury Memorial offers a wide variety of study and fellowship groups.

The Universal Christ: An Archetype for Everything

Join us on Monday, June 26th, from 6:00 to 8:15 PM for an evening with Richard Rohr

Richard Rohr explores the long hidden and misunderstood wisdom of the cosmic, universal Christ. Christ is much larger and older than either Jesus of Nazareth or the Christian reli-

gion. The Christ is whenever the material and the divine

co-exist—which is always and everywhere.

For more details of the event go to:

Chair Name Plate

As we worship on Sundays, how meaningful it is to see the name of a loved one etched into a nameplate on one of our beautiful sanctuary chairs. If you would like to remember or honor a loved one in a special way, complete an order form and turn it into the church office. Forms are available in the church narthex and the office. Please turn in a completed form to the office. The cost is $250.00. The funds are used for the upkeep and maintenance of the sanctuary.

My family and I worshipped at Asbury Memorial on May 7th. Thanks to Rev. Billy and Rev. Jan, you graciously sang “Happy Birthday” to me on the occasion of my 90th birthday. It was a most up-lifting service and we enjoyed being there. My family and I are very fortunate to have so many loving friends at Asbury Memorial. I love and appreciate each of you. May God continue to bless you. Mary Alice Garvin
