Both are leaving office at the end of the year due to term limits, and the campaigns in District 4 and District 5 are heating up. AGC's choice for District 4 Supervisor is former County District Attorney Bonnie Dumanis . Her proven leadership, support for fair and open competition, and her willingness to work with the construction industry gives her a thumbs up from AGC. Other candidates in the race include Nathan Fletcher, who is endorsed by the Building Trades Council; former State Assembly Member Lori Saldana; and land use attorney Omar Passons. AGC's District 5 choice is San Marcos Mayor Jim Desmond . His strong support of Measure A in 2016 (would have raised substantial revenue for needed local transportation projects), and his comprehensive understanding of infrastructure (he is on the Board of Directors at SANDAG and the San Diego County Regional Airport Authority) are top reasons for a thumbs up from AGC. A political forum for the three candidates was co-hosted by AGC and the Deputy Sheriffs' Association last November. County Announces Road Repair Event for ContractorsBy Mike McManus, Director of Engineering Construction & Industry Relations

County of San Diego officials announced an upcoming event at a recent meeting with AGCmembers. County officials called the passing of SB1 a "game changer" in their efforts tomaintain a high quality network of county roads. The new funding has increased the fundsavailable for road maintenance tenfold for the County, and just as importantly, provides a steadyand predictable revenue source. Similar sentiments have been expressed by City of San Diegoofficials, now the two agencies are teaming up to make sure that the construction industry has aclear picture of the opportunities afforded by SB1.

The event is jointly sponsored by the City andCounty of San Diego and is called the "2018Street Repair Contracting Event". This isan opportunity for contractors to get an insidelook at the upcoming street repair andcontracting opportunities that will be advertised, separately, by the City and County to repairtheir respective street and road networks in thecoming months.

City and County Staff will be on hand todiscuss how these projects will beimplemented, the anticipated opportunities forbig and small firms, and also to answer anyquestions from the attendees.

The event will be:

Wednesday, March 7th, 1 pm-3 pmBalboa Park Recital Hall

2130 Pan American Road WSan Diego, CA 92101

AGC will be in attendance, and will continue to update industry on upcoming opportunities.

For more information, contact Mike McManus at (858) 731-8150.
