TRAILERCOUPLINGS

One of the most important parts of the trailer is the coupling. There are various types depending on how the trailer has been constructed, and its Gross Weight. For a Braked Trailer you must have a type approved coupling which is available in A-frame and straight drawbar variations. Unbraked couplings are mostly designed for straight drawbar applications, and can only be used on trailers with a Gross Weight of less than 750kg. They are either manufactured from cast material or pressed steel, available to suit various different size box sections.We stock a huge range of parts, for a wide range of couplings, used on many different types of trailers and towed equipment.

InformationIf the breakaway cable appears damaged in any form, has a torn plastic cover, has a kinked or frayed cable, or a distorted clip, it is recommended that a new cable be fitted. Make sure you always stipulate quality breakaway cables to be used each time you replace them as some inferior cables will break without activating the brakes!

Make sure you stay the right side of the law…The NTTA say;

“An emergency breakaway cable must be fitted to the parking brake linkage and the other end clipped or fixed round some fixture on the towing vehicle so that, in the event of the trailer becoming detached from the towing vehicle, the cable will apply the parking brake automatically, before snapping itself. It is not recommended to loop the cable round the towball. (But do so if there is no alternative attachment point.) It is a separate offence not to use the breakaway cable provided”
