What Is Tinnitus
Tinnitus is a symptom and not a condition in itself. Tinnitus
describes the symptom of being able to hear things which nobody
else can, although, in a rare number of cases, this isn’t true.
Tinnitus is a very common condition with approximately 10% of
the population suffering from Tinnitus to one degree or another.
It is most commonly found in elderly people although it is
becoming much more widespread in the younger population.
Also, Tinnitus can be found in one or both ears or sometimes it
feels like it is coming from the middle of your head.
Tinnitus Symptoms
Tinnitus is most commonly found in elderly people although
possibly due to the different lifestyles it is becoming much more
common in younger people now. Maybe this is due to the fact
that people are living in noisier environments today.
The sounds which are heard vary from patient to patient. Some
patients hear a musical tone, although most patients hear
something which sounds more like a hissing or whistling or a
buzzing or a ringing noise. For a lot of patients, it is more of an
inconvenience and doesn’t affect their daily lives although, for a
number of patients, it is so bad that they need some kind of
treatment to relieve the symptoms
The most basic description of tinnitus symptoms is you will be
hearing dissonances that nobody else hears. It is important to
understand that these strange sounds seem entirely real even if
no one else hears it. It is noteworthy that in the US,
approximately one million people go through this so dramatically
that it creates issues during their normal activities throughout the
day. Majority of people will get a ringing sound that is high in
pitch and constantly present. If the intensity of the sound, or
dissonance, is quiet enough, then that does not present a real
issue. It is not at all hard to concentrate on something like we all

usually do, and you are not aware that the sound is present.
There is a strange symptom in which the sound that is heard can
be a clicking sound in unison with the beating of the heart. There
is still a different dissonance that is heard, and that is a humming
sound. But then the humming can be heard at all times and is
like a sustained sound. The level of severity concerns how loudly
the sound is heard. But as stated, the majority of tinnitus
sufferers, fortunately, will not sense this at a high volume.
Majority of the tinnitus sufferers have the ability to cope with it
because the brain has a distinct way of adapting to a variety of
situations.
Many people will not develop this condition in a chronic state. For
instance, if an individual gets water in the ear after showering or
swimming, then there is oftentimes a noise heard in that ear or
both ears. While that is a standard sign of tinnitus, it is very
transient and will clear up on its own. If you should have a build-
up of ear wax that suddenly interferes with normal hearing, then
once again that can cause transient signs of tinnitus. These
different causes and indications can be helpful to know just in
case you abruptly hear ringing in your ear.
Other symptoms are:
Lack of concentration,
Headaches,
Fatigue,
Social retreat,
Depressive moods,
Lack of patience,
Nervousness,
Panic attacks,

Apprehension,
Stress and tension,
Lack of self-confidence,
Insomnia,
Exhaustion,
Other than the hearing loss which is physical, all other symptoms
listed here are of a subconscious nature.
Pulsatile Tinnitus
If you have ever suffered from serious tinnitus you know how
much it can affect a person's everyday life. Buzzing or ringing in
the ears can be so frequent and intense that you have difficulties
to concentrate on anything.
However, pulsatile tinnitus is different from regular tinnitus.
While regular tinnitus causes are ranged and vary from the
benign to the serious, pulsatile tinnitus causes are usually due to
an abnormal blood flow event in the blood vasculature.
This type of condition is called as "pulsatile tinnitus" since the
perceived noise goes often along with pulse. The noise is often
whooshing, clicking, or some other sound of that type and
typically caused by increased blood flow or some type of
disturbance in the flow.
This phenomenon can be explained by an analogy to flow
turbulence in a garden hose. When water gushes out of a garden
hose without any obstruction, the water flows smoothly and with
little noise. However, when a thumb is put in front of the exit of
the gardening hose, the water flows faster and emits noise.
The principle in pulsatile tinnitus is the same. When your heart
beats it pumps more blood to your veins. If there are some

obstacles in your circulation, it can cause extra noises that you
perceive as tinnitus.
When having pulsatile tinnitus it is crucial to determine the source
of the sound before starting any treatments. Even though the
cause can sometimes be just a mild venous hum, it is more
commonly caused by atherosclerosis of an artery near the ear. In
those cases, the noise can be so loud that even other people can
hear it nearby the ear.
More serious causes are rarer, but cannot be ruled out. Such
causes include carotid artery dissection, carotid artery aneurysm,
idiopathic intracranial hypertension, and pulsatile paraganglioma
(a type of tumor) inside the inner ear.
When trying to determine the cause of your tinnitus a doctor
probably make at least imaging, thorough physical exams, and
blood test. Pulsatile tinnitus treatments are different than the
treatments of normal tinnitus. While normal tinnitus treatments
are often based on the symptoms, pulsatile tinnitus treatments
are based on the source and cause of the symptoms.
For benign causes such as a venous hum, no treatment is
recommended and the sound may go away on its own after a
while.
On the other hand, in atherosclerotic cases, the appropriate
treatment depends on the severity of the condition. If the
symptoms are not very bothersome, a doctor (and patient)
usually want to wait to see whether the sound goes away
spontaneously. However, it is common that a doctor recommends
using aspirin to prevent worsening of the condition.
For more severe cases, surgery is required. Options include
stents, plaque and clot removal, and bypass. Typically for carotid
arteries, plaque and clot removal is required to keep blood flow
to the brain patent.
Carotid artery dissection is an emergency and requires immediate

surgical repair. Aneurysms may be watched, or operated upon
based on the imaging. A pulsatile paraganglioma or other tumor
causing increased blood flow to the ear may have to be operated
on by a skilled otolaryngologist.
Patients suffering from pulsatile tinnitus should avoid the
following:
High sodium diet
High fat diet
Alcohol
Caffeine-laden beverages
Stress
Smoking
Cholesterol and high fat have always been linked to
atherosclerosis, one cause of pulsatile tinnitus. Therefore, they
must be avoided.
Salt increases the fluid retention in body tissues, causing the
blood pressure to rise.
Caffeine is a stimulant that elevates the heart rate and blood
pressure.
Alcohol can alter the fluid balance in the body, thereby causing
an imbalance in the inner ear fluid.
Stress triggers tinnitus symptoms. It is important to manage
anxiety and fatigue to prevent the tinnitus from becoming severe.
Keep in mind that the path to acquiring relief against objective
tinnitus also involves alternative remedies, relaxation, and
cognitive-behavioral therapy
Objective and Subjective Tinnitus
There are two types of tinnitus: subjective and objective tinnitus.
Just No Tinnitus
justnotinnitus.com
11
11
Subjective tinnitus is very common. It is a type of tinnitus
wherein only the sufferer hears the sound produced by the
condition. On the other hand, objective tinnitus, the rare type, is
characterized by tinnitus-produced sounds and noise also heard
by other people. For example, a doctor can use a stethoscope to
hear the noise. This is such a disturbing condition as it usually
indicates the presence of a serious underlying condition such as
cardiovascular problems. This tinnitus is prevalent in 3% of all
tinnitus cases.
People suffering from objective tinnitus describe their condition
as hearing rhythmic, low humming, thumping, or clicking noise
synchronized with their breathing or heartbeat. Thus, it is also
called the pulsatile tinnitus. Therefore, a person can acquire relief
not only when the tinnitus sounds are eradicated but also when
the medical condition accompanying it is treated.
There are major causes of objective tinnitus. First, it can be
caused by the sudden changes in the flow of blood in the arteries
or veins in the ear. This often results in thumping sounds heard
in the ear. Second, it can be caused by the heightened sensitivity
to the sounds and noise from the blood flow in the ears. This
makes a person prone to hearing tinnitus sounds. In some few
cases, this type of tinnitus may indicate the presence of a fatal
medical condition like an aneurysm. Therefore, the patient's
condition must be diagnosed correctly to pin down the possible
factors causing the tinnitus sounds heard by the sufferer.
The clinical investigation of this condition involves analyzing the
patient's medical history to check for prior cardiovascular
conditions. The doctor may suggest that the patient undergoes
CT scan, magnetic resonance angiography (MRA), magnetic
resonance scanning (MRI), angiography, and ultrasound. These
tests and examinations show the images of blood flow and blood
vessels thereby helping the doctor identify the main problem. The
doctor may also do some blood tests to check if the patient has
anemia.

12
12
Relief against objective tinnitus depends mainly on the primary
condition, which upon identification must receive immediate
treatment. For example, if the cause of the condition is
hypertension, it must be treated by taking medication that can
lower the blood pressure, diet change, and lifestyle modification.
Causes Of Tinnitus
There are certain situation que may cause tinnitus:
Tinnitus is caused by damage to the nerves in the inner ear
(cochlea). These nerves transmit electrical impulses to the brain
which the brain then interprets as sounds. When these nerves
are damaged, the signal becomes distorted. When this distorted
signal gets to the brain, the brain interprets it as a noise which is
Tinnitus.
Exposure to noise
Did your mom always tell you with your younger days to turn
down the volume? She was suitable. Exposure to loud noise can
supply you with tinnitus. In reality, rock musicians, and
individuals who operate with them, or in evening clubs often have
it. Those who do the job in building web-sites also have tinnitus.
So turn down that volume even though you still can. One of the
most common tinnitus causes that you need to know is the
constant exposure to loud noise or music. If you are fond of
listening to loud music using your headphones or MP3 players,
you better consider lowering down the volume to a much
tolerable level. Although you feel that you can endure the
volume, remember that your ears are not built to always listen
to hard and loud noises all throughout the day.
When loud sounds enter the ear, the pressure from the sounds
may break the tiny hair like nerve endings inside the ear. When
the nerve endings are broken, it may result in the high pitched
sound that most people characterize with tinnitus. If you are

constantly exposed to noise from engines, machinery, and even
rock concerts, you should find ways to protect your hearing.
Getting ear plugs is one of the best ways for you to protect your
ear from excessively loud sounds which are tinnitus causes.
Excess Ear Wax
When excess wax builds up in the ear canal, it can weaken the
ability to hear outside noises and may worsen noises in ears.
Middle Ear Infections
Otis media is the medical term for a middle ear infection or
inflammation of the middle ear. If left undiagnosed or untreated,
Otis media can lead to infection of the mastoid bone behind the
ear, a ruptured ear drum, and hearing loss. Sometimes, tinnitus
symptoms begin again following a middle ear infection.
Brain Or Head Injury
General symptoms of a brain or head injury include loss of
consciousness, confusion, drowsiness, personality change,
seizures, nausea, headache, and vomiting. Roughly 25% of
individuals who sustain a brain or head trauma, experience
tinnitus symptoms following the injury.
Other common causes are:
Meniere’s disease is a disorder of the inner ear that affects
balance and hearing. The tinnitus experienced by Meniere’s
patients is continual and does not subside with time, although
its levels may vary. This condition, which affects balance can
also have a side effect of Tinnitus.
Otosclerosis is an abnormal bone growth in the middle ear that
causes noises in ears. About 75% of people with otosclerosis
also experience tinnitus symptoms.
Weak Circulation may be an indication of a serious heart

disorder. Common symptoms of poor circulation include cold
hands and feet, white fingers, dizziness when standing quickly,
numbness, varicose veins, migraine headaches, tinnitus and
noises in ears.
High Blood Cholesterol: High blood cholesterol clogs arteries
that supply oxygen to the nerves of the inner ear. Lowering
blood cholesterol levels may reduce tinnitus symptoms.
Tension: It's essential to already understand that extreme
pressure is simply not great for the wellbeing. It could
outcome in all varieties of medical issues, and a few of them
could also be fatal. Anxiety may cause tinnitus also. A lot of it
is actually damaging for the immunity, and this could result in
a misfire inside the sound/brain waves. This adversely affects
your nervous method and tends to make you hear the noises.
Depression: Some individuals feel that depression causes
tinnitus. And you will find individuals who say that tinnitus
causes depression. But nearly all of them agree that there is
a relation amongst these two. And anyway, if your tinnitus is
bothering you endlessly, it may possibly make you depressed.
Naturally, this will likely additional complicate matters.
What Is Hyperacusis?
In elderly people, it is seen as part of growing older and is called
presbyacusis. However, in younger people, medical professionals
believe it is due to be exposed to loud noises.
Hyperacusis is a medical condition that affects millions of people
around the world. It can have a devastating or debilitating effect
not only on your personal life but on your professional life as well.
Determining the hyperacusis symptoms right at their onset
significantly helps treat the condition and prevent it from
worsening. Thus, read on and learn about the different symptoms
of hyperacusis.

Vestibular And Cochlear Hyperacusis
Hyperacusis comes in two types: vestibular and cochlear
hyperacusis. Pain in the ear, discomfort, annoyance, and other
emotional reactions caused by certain sounds are some of the
cochlear hyperacusis symptoms. Loss of postural control, loss of
balance, and falling are some of the vestibular hyperacusis
symptoms. These have been associated with symptoms of
audiogenic seizure disorder and Tullio's syndrome. People with
vestibular hyperacusis may also experience some symptoms of
cochlear hyperacusis paired with vertigo and nausea. There are
some cases when the autonomic system of the brain is also
affected, and this may result in extreme fatigue, nausea, mental
confusion, and loss of confusion. Both types of hyperacusis may
also have a headache as one of their symptoms.
Other Hyperacusis Symptoms:
Patients with hyperacusis may also experience one or more of the
following hyperacusis symptoms:
One thing you have to be aware of is that the hyperacusis
symptoms are different from those of tinnitus. In fact, as
mentioned above, tinnitus symptoms are just one of the
symptoms of hyperacusis. If you start hearing some ringing
sounds like the tinnitus sounds, make sure to consult with your
doctor right away so that he/she can determine whether what
you have is tinnitus or hyperacusis. Again, if you want to be
treated right away, make sure to know the different hyperacusis
symptoms as this is the very first step to becoming diagnosed
and getting the treatment you need to get rid of the bad effects
of hyperacusis. This condition can be devastating and
debilitating, but when you recognize the symptoms early,
something can be done to prevent it from worsening.
Aspirin Overdose
The true cause of tinnitus is not one thing. That is to say that

there are many different causes that can result in the condition
of ringing or buzzing in the ear occurring. The result, however, is
an annoying sound that can disrupt the day and make the nights
unbearable. Minimizing the conditions that can cause tinnitus is
important. Certain drugs and other items that can lead to this
condition should be avoided. A cause of tinnitus that many do not
know about is aspirin consumption. The following explains more
on why tinnitus aspirin consumption can be a problem and how
the body is damaged by too much of this often used drug.
Consider this when evaluating your consumption of the product
and how it may damage you and your body.
What Is Aspirin Good For?:
In common use, aspirin is great for combating or relieving the
dull aches and pains that can impact the body. Whether it is
soreness from working out or a headache that develops from
stress and other problems, aspirin in small doses can be a great
way to numb the pain of the body and get an individual in a more
comfortable state of being and mind. The main way that aspiring
works is as an anti-inflammatory medication for the body. The
less inflamed the body and the muscles of it are, the more likely
that an individual is to alleviate pain. Inflammation can occur for
many reasons, including disease, sickness, or the stress of the
body and its components.
Can You Overdose on Aspirin?: As with any drug, be it
prescription or over the counter, is that it can be dangerous if not
used in the proper way and in the proper amounts. Aspirin is no
exception to this rule. Individuals who are consuming aspiring in
their daily lives should follow the directions on the package
carefully. If they have any questions about how much they should
or should not consume, then a doctor should be consulted
immediately. Aspiring poisoning is real and it can be deadly if not
taken seriously by anyone consuming the product. Often, this
drug is thought of as innocuous but in the wrong amounts, it has
potential to be problematic. This becomes especially true if you

are consuming over weeks and days. Your body, however, should
begin to show you signs that something is occurring and that an
imbalance has set in.
Symptoms of an Overdose
In the most simple of cases, where aspiring poisoning is just
beginning to take place, the symptoms are slight and may be
unnoticeable. Dry mouth and headaches are among the first signs
that a problem is occurring with the amount of aspirin consumed.
Dizziness can also be a symptom as well. Moderate to severe
forms of aspirin poisoning can result in elevated pulse, agitation,
and seizures. All of which can be a problem and potentially life
threatening. If you are experiencing any of these conditions or
symptoms, there needs to be medical intervention immediately.
No symptom is too slight to not need attention. Be sure that you
seek it promptly.
Aspirin Overdose and Tinnitus
Aspirin overdose can do great damage to the body. It can cause
organs to begin failing and problems with blood clotting. These
are extremely serious. Another problem that aspirin can cause is
tinnitus. Aspirin tinnitus develops when there is too much,
obviously, aspirin in the system. Too much aspirin can damage
the tiny hair-like structures in the ear known as cilia. If the cilia
are damaged, then, it is easier for the hearing canal to have
struggles with tinnitus. Overdoses of aspirin tinnitus symptoms
go hand and hand. Do not be surprised if you are an avid
consumer that you experience the ringing in the ear as your ears
become damaged and struggle.
Medications
Some drugs both legal and illegal can cause Tinnitus as the body
reacts to them.
Tinnitus has also been reported to occur as a side effect of several

18
different medications. These medicines are referred to as
"Ototoxic" medications because of their toxicity to the vestibular
structures of the ears. Ototoxic medications have a high potential
of causing tinnitus as well as other symptoms such as dizziness
and vertigo. Such medications are:
Aspirin: Even though aspirin can cause tinnitus, you need to
take rather big dosages before tinnitus may occur. Taking
about eight pills a day can cause the condition.
NSAIDS: Advil, Aleve, Motrin, and Nuprin are in a class of
drugs known as Non-Steroidal Anti-Inflammatory Drugs.
These medications have been reported to cause tinnitus after
a consumption of 6-8 pills per day.
Antibiotics: Many antibiotics can cause tinnitus as well. Some
of them include Amindoglycosides, Vancomycin, and
Erythromycin. Amindoglycosides and Erythromycin cause
tinnitus, especially when using intravenously. Vancomycin can
cause tinnitus when using together with Aminoglycosides.
Diuretics: Some medications that are given to treat kidney
failure and high blood pressure can cause tinnitus. These
medications include Bumex and Lasix.
Antidepressants: Some antidepressants such as Prozac,
Celexa, Zoloft, Paxil, and Lvox may cause tinnitus. An older
antidepressant that goes by the name of Remerol has not been
reported to cause tinnitus.
Muscle Relaxers: Some muscle relaxers are also known to
cause temporal tinnitus. However, the symptoms usually
disappear rather soon after the medication is stopped.
Drugs Used in Chemotherapy: There are chemotherapy
medicines that can also cause tinnitus. The most common
ones include Nitrogen Mustard, Cisplatin, and Vincristine.
With medications, tinnitus usually subsides after time without
exposure to the ototoxic ingredient.

Treatment Of Tinnitus
For most patients, there is no cure for Tinnitus. Most treatments
simply relieve the symptoms by masking the cause of Tinnitus.
Tinnitus is sometimes strongly related to the patient’s level of
stress. By managing this level of stress via the use of sedatives,
tranquilizers or anti- depressants, the symptoms of tinnitus can
be relieved.
Some drugs which affect the conduction of electrical impulses in
the affected nerves have been found to relieve the symptoms of
stress.
There are a number of self-help measures which patients can
employ either on their own or in tandem with any assistance that
a doctor can prescribe. These include listening to soothing music
on a personal stereo before the patient goes to sleep. There are
white noise generators which can mask the noise inside your
head. This means that you can’t hear the noise generated by
tinnitus.
5 Steps To Silence
Common tinnitus symptoms can be controlled with these simple
steps:
Avoid all loud sounds and noisy places.
Avoid total silence try and mask the tinnitus with white noise.
Avoid exorbitant use of alcohol, caffeine, or aspirin.
Wear ear protection when using chain saws, guns, lawn
mowers, loud music or power tools. Exposure to loud noises
can make tinnitus worse and can also cause additional hearing
loss.
Control stress levels and learn how to relax in stressful

situations.
Most people with tinnitus also suffer from anxiety and lack of
sleep. At night when all is quiet, the ringing in your ears may
sound louder, making it harder to sleep. The lack of sleep, in turn,
makes you more tired during the day which increases your
anxiety and stress. Poor sleep induces depression, negative
thoughts and a resultant higher level of anxiety and tinnitus
symptoms.
New Treatments for Tinnitus
There are new tinnitus treatments that are available for you to
follow and adopt
Tinnitus Masker Gadget
This device is basically used for masking the ringing sound in your
ear. It provides you with a "masking" pleasant sound to your ear
so you are able to hear as normal without having that high
pitched ringing sound. This device is worn like a regular hearing
aid. However, you have to remember that it will only help you to
hear better but not to banish your tinnitus entirely. You wouldn't
want to just "mask" your hearing for the rest of your life won't
you?
Medical Application of Stem Cells
This medical approach has been developed for a host of a
neurological condition. Basically, it works by taking the stem cells
from the embryos and then transform it into a suitable cell for
human ear and re-grown them back in the area of the ear that
shows the sign of damage. This new treatment for tinnitus has
proven to work and has very high of a successful rate. However,
this method can cost you up to few thousands of dollars. It can
be very expensive for certain group of people.
TRT: Tinnitus Retraining Therapy

RT has proven to work for many tinnitus patients. How it works
is by re-training your ear and brain by using a sound generator
with a specific course of treatment by a trained therapist. This
method will take a lot of time to train and it can be up to 6 to 8
months to see results.
These above methods and applications are proven to work for
many tinnitus sufferers. However, keep in mind that there is
some limitation to these methods. These methods can be very
expensive and costly. You will need to consult with a specialist
before doing performing these methods. But apart from that, it
has proven to be effective and safe to use. Fortunately, tinnitus
not only can be cure by the above method but can also be cured
by using the natural approach. It is safer to implement and much
more affordable. You just need to follow the correct natural
approach and can completely eliminate this pain
There are actually new proven medical approaches specifically
designed to eliminate tinnitus pain naturally. It basically helps
you to permanently eliminate the pain without resorting to drugs,
audio therapies, or even any risky surgeries!
Vitamins and Minerals For Tinnitus
Treatment
Many causes of tinnitus stem from deficiencies within the body.
To resolve these deficiencies you need to supplement your diet
to restore the deficient levels. Find out which vitamin and mineral
deficiencies can cause tinnitus and why they are important in the
body.
Vitamin B Complex- Facilitate in metabolism and energy
production, support liver function of the liver and central
nervous system. Vitamin B helps reduce depression, stress,
and anxiety. The vitamin B's that are especially necessary for
treating tinnitus are B1 (thiamine), B3 (niacin), B12, B6
(pyridoxine), and B5 (folic acid).

Zinc- A deficiency of zinc causes growth arrest,
hypogonadism, infertility, diarrhea, dermatitis, alopecia,
behavioral changes, smell and taste disorders, and tinnitus.
Zinc has the ability to influence neurotransmission, inhibit
binding of peptides and other ligands to their neuroreceptors.
Calcium- Deficiency of calcium can cause brittle bones and
fractures. However, calcium enhances neural transmission.
Magnesium- Deficiency in magnesium can result in a variety
of metabolic abnormalities. However, magnesium
supplements can prevent hearing loss, reduce ototoxicity
caused by exposure to loud noises and decrease the risk of
tinnitus.
Manganese- Manganese deficiencies cause seizures,
decreased growth, impaired fertility, birth defects, tinnitus,
and lead to nervous symptoms. Manganese supports the
immune system, regulates blood sugar, produces cellular
energy, helps in reproduction, and assists in bone growth.
Manganese can control the effects of stress and stabilize the
effects of tinnitus.
Selenium- Selenium deficiency can cause myalgia,
cardiomyopathies, and nervous system abnormalities.
Because the amount of selenium needed in the body is
minimal deficiencies are rare.

Noise Masking
Often times these individuals will use a device that will generate
an artificial noise to mask the tinnitus sound. This process is
called tinnitus retraining therapy. It is a widely known and
practiced remedy to the noise. Although it doesn’t actually make
the noise disappear, it makes the noise less annoying and
disturbing the person who is affected; this makes the noise easier
to ignore allowing the individual to concentrate on mental tasks.
If you are living with tinnitus, chances are you explored some of
the non-standard methods available. One of the treatments
growing in popularity today is tinnitus masking. This method is
nothing new as tinnitus masking has been around since the early
1900's. Do understand this treatment does not work for everyone
as some individuals may not experience true success but those
who do find relief to this procedure claim it is a lifesaver as
tinnitus masking creates a common hearing condition once more.
You must realize what tinnitus masking is. The name says it all
as this treatment will mask or block high pitched noise associated
with tinnitus and obstruct the bad noise with more pleasurable
and refreshing sounds. Sounds like water and nature are just a
common occurrence depending on which masking treatment you
are comfortable.
One of the many advantages of a tinnitus masking treatment is

surgery.

tinnitus relief. Lavender is well known in the aromatherapy world
because it is a powerful and effective relaxant or sedative. It's

dispenser, which slowly releases the scent into the room with an

Tinnitus Is Related To Stress
And Anxiety
Stress can cause many problems and exacerbate others,
including Tinnitus, or ringing in the ears. Many individuals suffer
from this malady and can deal with it on a daily basis until stress
levels rise and then the Tinnitus becomes significantly worse.
Of course, there are many different reasons why an individual
may develop Tinnitus, but stress and anxiety can intensify the
effects of the ringing in the ears. Because of this individuals with
Tinnitus need to manage the stress in their lives to minimize the
effects.
In general, when an individual suffers from tinnitus the body feels
as if it is being attacked at all times. So, the effects are never-
ending and the body ultimately responds in a physical way with
additional problems like insomnia, anxiety, and even depression.
Once these responses occur they only serve to intensify the
tinnitus, which is just a violent circle. Because of this, it is
incredibly important for sufferers to find a way to relax and keep
their symptoms at bay (as much as possible) instead of stressing
out and exacerbating them.
This is much easier to say than to actually implement. But,
nevertheless, it is very important to make an effort to achieve.
Sufferers of tinnitus know this very well and try their best not to
stress out because the ringing in their ears only gets worse.
It is unfortunate that tinnitus makes individuals stress out over
their symptoms and then their stressing only causes their
symptoms to worsen. Fortunately, for individuals with tinnitus,
there are ways to get stress under control before it gets out of
hand and causes the individual worse ringing in their ears. One

example of a way to reduce stress is to simply exercise.
Try Exercise Or Yoga
It has been proven that exercise really helps individuals relax,
forget about what’s bothering them, and simply enjoy life. Those
with tinnitus should exercise every single day in order to relax,
forget about their ringing ears for just a bit, and hopefully relax
enough to keep the symptoms from getting too bad. Another
good option for reducing stress is to take part in yoga and
meditation and even have a massage on a regular basis.
Nobody wants to have tinnitus and those who do certainly don’t
want their symptoms to get any worse than they have to. Due to
this individuals suffering from tinnitus should make all efforts to
live a low key and relaxing life that has as little stress as possible.
And, in addition to this tinnitus sufferers should do their best to
exercise and take part in relaxation exercises to keep what stress
they do have at bay. Many individuals suffer from tinnitus and of
them, approximately 90% experience exaggerated symptoms
when subjected to stressful situations.
Because of this, individuals with tinnitus must do all they can in
order to reduce stress in their lives so they may live an enjoyable
life.
Foods to Avoid for Tinnitus List
The first thing that needs to be said here is that the link between
certain foods and tinnitus isn't, in fact, a direct link because, as
we've seen, tinnitus is just a symptom of an underlying problem.
So the link is actually between certain foods and the underlying
issues. In other words, certain foods or ingredients can cause
problems or issues in some people which may lead to tinnitus. An
obvious one is allergies for example.
Salt. This is an obvious one since too much salt can lead to
high blood pressure which we know is an underlying cause of

ringing in the ears.
Refined sugar. The variation in blood sugar levels and the
release of adrenaline can trigger tinnitus.
Saturated and trans-fats are next on the list. These can cause
deposits inside blood vessels and hardening of the arteries.
The blood flow then becomes turbulent and this can be heard
as tinnitus.
MSG, or monosodium glutamate, can be found in many of our
foods as a flavor enhancer. Unfortunately, glutamate is an
excitatory neurotransmitter that can cause tinnitus.
Other foods: chocolate, cheese, red wine, honey, ripe
bananas, soy, and avocados.
Anyone with tinnitus may want to try avoiding or at the very least
reducing their intake of these types of foods. But, on its own, this
approach may not be enough to get rid of your tinnitus.

The Tinnitus Mantra
Let’s get 3 important things into perspective here. I will repeat
these 3 sentences until they are tattooed into your soul.
Tinnitus is not a disease, it is a symptom!

You are not sick and you are not mentally ill. You are being
warned!
You will defeat tinnitus if you accept it as a part of you.
As soon as you are ready to accept that the tinnitus is a part
of you, the sooner you can expect to make progress.
The power of the mind is extraordinary. Think about this
carefully. If tinnitus succeeded in turning your life upside
down, then accept the fact that all it used to achieve misery
was your own mind. That’s quite an achievement isn’t it?
That’s how powerful your mind is. If it has the capability to
make your life a complete misery then surely it can be re-
programmed to do the opposite.
It’s entirely up to you. The solution lies within yourself and
your ability to learn.
What do we know about the causes of tinnitus?.
Where does it have its roots?
List Of Elements That Contribute To Tinnitus
Ever heard of social sickness? Me either. Its a phrase that I like
though. In Germany its called Volkskrankheit (has nothing to do
with cars).
I once tried to compile a list of all elements which I suspected
may have contributed to MY own tinnitus. Obviously, I listed the
negative aspects of my life over a 10 year period.
Some of these things could have been avoided, most of them
were linked to each other. Don’t forget, this is only a list of things
that I think should be mentioned.
I’ve tried not to generalize and I’ve tried my best to stay honest,
even if it means confessing to some bad sins.
To be perfectly honest it’s not as dramatic as it looks. It just looks

outrageous when written down!
Marital Stress,
Heavy smoking,
Drug and medication abuse, (i.e. Valium, Marijuana, Cocaine)
Relationship crisis,
Unhealthy eating habits,
Loud noises,
Lack of exercise,
High cholesterol,
High blood sugar rate,
Personal loss,
Caffeine addiction ( coffee and cola )
Lack of sleep,
Financial Problems,
Overweight,
Business pressures,
Inclination to worry about everything.
It looks terrible I know. The worst thing is that I am one of the
millions who used to live like this. If you can’t identify with
anything written on this list then you shouldn’t have tinnitus. Any
one of these elements on their own would be harmful enough for
any person.
Combine them and you’re left with a time bomb waiting to
explode.
So now we have two lists. The first one above describes the

symptoms and the second one describes possible causes. If you
look carefully at the causes
it won’t take much imagination to conjure up a “symptom list”
like the one above. What else do you expect?
Writing Your Own List
I dare you. Take a pen and paper and write down your own “bad
list”. Be absolutely honest and write down all the things that you
aren’t proud of or maybe would rather forget. Write down all the
things you would like to change if you had a magic wand. (My
bad list is there for everyone to see. You can hide yours)
By the way, you don’t have to have tinnitus to create a list like
mine. I would be willing to bet that EVERYONE can come up with
a list similar to mine. I say only similar because I know that not
everyone is overweight, or smokes or tried drugs.
Think carefully about what you are reading on your list. If you
are very honest, you will find that you don’t need a magic wand
to shorten this list. The only person on this planet that can change
this list to something to be proud of is YOU!
I consider myself to be lucky. Tinnitus gave me a chance to re-
shuffle my life
Once more: Don’t forget.
Tinnitus is not a disease, it is a symptom!
You are not sick and you are not mentally ill. You are being
warned!
You will defeat tinnitus if you accept it as a part of you.
After an “auditory crash” two years ago which left me with a
temporary loss of all hearing, I had no other choice than to take
action.
Anyway, this “Auditory Crash” of hearing lasted almost 2 days at

the most and thanks to my doctor, I was up and about a week
later.
After reading many books and collecting all the information I
could find, I decided to take action. I didn’t know it then, but the
decision to cut out everything that was harming me probably
saved my life.
Did you already write down your own list?. If not, let’s imagine
this is your list.
Where do you start?
There are some things you can change straight away and without
hesitation. Other things will require great patience, lots of time
and the will to change.

Suffering Of Tinnitus? You
Are Not Alone
Some of the best musicians in the world had deafness problems.
If you think that is not possible, here are a few names you have
probably heard of.
The first is Ludwig van Beethoven. You know, that classical
German composer and pianist. At the age of 26, he began to lose
his hearing since he suffered from a severe form of tinnitus which
made it difficult for him to perceive and appreciate music.
Although there were no high tech gadgets back then to help with
his problem, he used a special rod which he attached to the
soundboard on a piano that he could bite so the vibrations would
then transfer from the piano to his jaw. This was just one of the
many hearing aids he used even when he was almost totally deaf.
But this did not hinder Beethoven from composing. To this day,
musicians and music lovers alike still appreciate his work as a
talented composer and pianist.
Let’s go forward almost about 200 years and surely those who
are reading this are familiar with the group the Beatles. Sir
George Henry Martin who is a British record producer, arranger
and composer also had hearing problems.
He was often referred to as the Fifth Beatle because he was either
the producer or co-producer of all the Beatles original records and
played the piano in some of their songs. Unlike Beethoven, he
retired from music due to hearing loss.
Another musician from Great Britain is the singer Peter
Townshend. If you watch CSI, the soundtrack of that series was
from this rock group. Just like Beethoven, Townshend suffered
from tinnitus as a direct result of over exposure to loud music
through the headphones and during concerts.

On the American front, you have Brian Wilson who happens to be
a songwriter, bassist, and singer for the Beach Boys. What makes
this person different is the fact that he was deaf in one ear not
because of any illness. This happened when his father hit him on
the head with a board while he was still young. Like the other
musicians, this did not stop him from being part of the one best
recording band’s in music history.
One song diva, movie star and political activist who also has
deafness problems is Barbra Streisand. At the age of 7, her doctor
diagnosed her with tinnitus. But as we all know, she still pursued
her singing career and even did a few films.
Eric Clapton, known guitarist and singer also has deafness
problems. He like other musicians believes that this was caused
by the loud speakers used during rock concerts. The sad part is
that whether it is acute, mild or severe, permanent damage has
been done and there is no way to reverse the symptoms.
The good news is that there are now treatments available but its
success has varying degrees of reliability.
The musicians that were mentioned here were not deaf when
they were born. They lost it later on in life but even with such a
handicap, this has not stopped them from writing, producing or
playing great music for audiences. If you know someone who has
deafness problems, you can still help them be successful in life
with a little encouragement.
