The creativity is the ability to introduce order into the randomness of nature (by Philosopher, Eric Hoffer).
The environment present in the city is the cityscape that creates the characteris c of the town. It is a form of eleva on that our eye can capture. It may be an expression of our needs to survive in the town. Furthermore, it would generate emo onal and sen mental eff usion by crea ng a memory out of it.
The environment of the city has been related to the Bal c Sea throughout its history. Its climate, culture, business, and life are re-lated to this environment. The design site is located right in-between the Bal c sea and Tahi tornin park. Its characteris cs to render into this city context will be very much interes ng. By its fi ne loca on, the dis nc ve seasonal change becomes much drama c ele-ments to bring to the site as a form of architecture.
Frozen ice on the water is mel ng away and the park changes its color when spring comes. The landscape covered the city will change its form. Furthermore, the new building on the site will con nue to bring this environment. The mel ng ice becomes structure and the eleva on of trees on the park becomes an architectural enclosure. It will be a na ve seed planted on the site. It will grow and will be a fi ne medium to connect the sea and the park. Later, people will realize it is a memory that they already have had.

Helsinki, the Gulf of Finland, is the city surrounded by the Bal- c Sea. The loca on of design site is along side of the road
facing to her. Its loca on is quite infl uen al to bring the new-ness of the city for the visitors and even residents. The city-scape drawn across the Bal c sea becomes a major form to represent history of the town and growth. It made a unique characteris c of the city of Helsinki. The site located near the sea would con nue to express this water as an element of the form.
Green area brings comfort to people to take advantage from the natural environment. It also leads people to direct their des na ons. The new museum brings this elements into a ma-jor form of the building. So, the beauty of eleva on reinforces con nuous green network to the city
People’s movement toward the Bal c sea would face the ele-va on of the buildings lines. One is from the East of the design site. The other is from the west. Eleva on of building is con n-ued from Tahi tornin Park. Eleva on developed from the tree becomes a part of design elements of the new museum.

The design of the museum is to enhance the beauty of the exi ng environment. Beside the structure form, metaphoric expression of the mel ng ice of the sea water, the enclosure of the building was developed based on the ideas of the eleva on that captured from the west of the site.

Through the inters al space (1.5M.) un-derneath of the 1st fl oor, the mechanical duct to be distributed in order to minimized energy loss and it shortens duct distances to serve individually controlled rooms.
Finnish wood has been extensively used for interior walls and fl oors in addi on to the panels of surface walls. Use of wood is for acous c of interior space to absorb sounds from the interior since it is split into pieces not to refl ect the sound coming from interior space. Thus, it gives visitors feeling walking on a forest. Warm and brightly lit area from indirect sun light.

The park bridge connec on has been in a considera on to have further development. The proposed form of roof top will bring public from the exis ng park to the new opened restau-rant at the north of the museum as well as it will provide the view to the sea to the public. Its connec on is to be further developed according to the stage of this proposal.
In order to provide comfortable and less interrupted open space at the plaza, the form of building is situated along side the site from the south to the north to minimize strong wind coming from the Bal c sea. People have less disturbance or discomfort to use of common space outside.
Helsinki winter arrives in December and fi nishes in February and o en Helsinki experiences heavy snowfall due to its northern loca on. Its design to incorporate this cli-ma c condi on is cri cal aspect for the new museum. Due to its snow fall, overall roof design has its enough slope to avoid heavy weighed roof structure occurred by snow.
The main entrance gate has been located to centralize all access for visitors. Staff ac-cess and VIP access from separated bike sta on area also need to pass through this check in point.
Loading and Unloading area should be considered as a separate security point to al-low ar facts and other works to be securely transported into the museum.
