FROM THE MANAGERLeslee Jones

It can’t get any hotter can it? This is crazy hot! Most of you have seen the new home activity in Bay Lake. We are so excited to have 6 new homes coming and 7 more to come. There has been a lot of inquiries about touring the homes from our residents. I am planning on having a progressive “Open House” for all of you as soon as all 6 are ready to tour. Keep your eyes on our in house channel 196 and signs in the clubhouse for the date.

Just a friendly reminder – I have had several of you tell me that there are residents riding their golf carts at night with no lights. Bad idea to ride or walk without some kind of light and light clothing. It would be terrible to have someone get hurt when this is something that is so easy to avoid. Remember also that it is illegal for a minor without a valid driver license to operate a golf cart – not to mention very dangerous.

Our “Home of the Month” award for April went to 111 Carissa Street, May went to 49 Orange Blossom Street, June went to 4 Flamboyant Street and July went to 11 Flamboyant Street. They have all received their $50 gift cards! Make sure that you take a ride by these homes. Good luck to next month’s winner!

Until next month!

BAY LAKER DELIVERYJanice Van Dyke

Beginning May 1, 2016 through October the Bay Laker will be available at the clubhouse. We do not deliver it door to door in the off season as there aren’t enough people to deliver it. Please be sure to stop by the clubhouse the beginning of each month to pick one up. I would like to thank Carol Gilchrist for organizing and delivering the newsletter to all those that deliver the newsletter for her. I would also like to thank everyone that delivers the newsletter door to door.

TOO RICH? TOO THIN? The Computer Clinic by Steve Rollison

Wallis Simpson, Duchess of Windsor, is widely credited with having said “You can never be too rich or too thin.” Well, clearly a person can be too thin (a problem that no one in my family has ever had to deal with) but I guess in theory one could never be too rich.

“Too much of a good thing,” though, is an issue you hear raised every once in a while. “Steak for dinner every night would get pretty boring,” they say. “If you always had perfect weather you’d soon never appreciate a warm, sunny day or a cool, refreshing breeze.”

I think I already have “too much of a good thing” when it comes to the availability of software.

Last week I was teaching Susan how to play Sudoku—that game where you complete the puzzle so that every box, every row, and every column contains each of the digits 1 through 9 exactly once.

Simple puzzles are easy enough to solve with just pencil and paper, but the really challenging ones are more fun when you can use a program

Page 3: The Bay Laker · Our “Home of the Month” award for April went to 111 Carissa Street, May went to 49 Orange Blossom Street, June went to 4 Flamboyant Street and July went to 11

PAGE 3

to help you keep track of the combinations that you’ve rejected along the way.

So after showing Susan the basic game strategy I went to the Google Play store to look for an app for her tablet. It took only a few seconds to find one. To find 230 of them, actually! And those were just the free ones. There were almost another two dozen Sudoku games for sale.

Too much of a good thing? Kind of. Rather than being happy that there was such a large selection, I found myself getting perturbed.

I was getting perturbed because it was taking forever to download, install and review, one at a time, all the really terrible quality apps at the Play store. Each app is “rated” by the users, but somehow the majority of apps seem to be rated at least a 4.3 on a 5.0 scale regardless of how good or bad they are.

Fortunately, I eventually found a handful of really good Sudoku games, so it was worth the effort in the end.

If I had it to do over again I would start by asking all my friends if they play Sudoku and if they know of any good apps. You might want to keep that concept in mind if you find yourself looking for some specialty software. By the way, if you want the names of some good Sudoku apps let me know!
