Board of Directors and CEO Report2014 was a particularly emotional year at Buduchnist Credit Union where

staff and members alike were motivated to work hard, deliver results and tomake a difference in our many pursuits.

GROWINGIn spite of the competitive financial services marketplace, BCU expanded

its balance sheet by $49 million or 7.4% to $709 million while BCU Wealth Management grew by 15% reaching a milestone in assets of $100 million. Asa result, BCU assets under administration reached $809 million, an admirableoverall growth rate of 8.30%.

Our members borrowed $139 million in 2014, an amount second only tolevels reached in 2012. As a result, our loans portfolio topped $613 million, a6.5% increase year over year. Our members also continued to take advantageof BCU’s competitive deposit rates, investing an additional $10 million withtheir Credit Union. Member deposits reached $606 million by year-end. Andthe Buduchnist family welcomed 1,124 new members to our growing family,increasing overall membership to 22,091 members.

EARNINGBefore taxes and dividends, BCU earned $4.1 million, of which $2.7 million

was put away to our retained earnings. We continue to deliver strong financial results, thereby strengthening our solid capital base which nowstands at $58 million. Our regulatory capital of 8.20% is in excess of the required regulatory minimum of 4%.

REWARDINGOnce again, the BCU Patronage Plan distributed a portion of our Credit

Union’s earnings to our members. Buduchnist CU paid a 3% dividend on Member Shares, a 4% dividend on Bonus Shares and declared patronage dividends in the amount of $360,000 based on the business members heldwith BCU throughout the year. To date, since 1998, the BCU Patronage Planhas returned $10.7 million back to our members, clearly underscoring that atBCU membership has its benefits!

BUILDINGBuduchnist CU continues to play a leading role in the vitality of the

Ukrainian community in Canada. Essentially, every good initiative and everyimportant on-going member project in support of the community is spon-sored by BCU! Throughout 2014, BCU made a significant contribution of $1.7million to numerous charitable, non-profit, Church and community-sponsored causes as well as countless youth, cultural, educational, humanitarian and recreational activities, the community media and infor-mation sectors. As the only Ukrainian Canadian financial institution to havecontributed to the establishment of a charitable foundation, BCU Founda-tion, BCU continues to play a leadership role as the catalyst for the commu-nity’s growth and development.

HELPING2014 was a year without recent precedent for Ukraine and her

people in their new struggle for freedom and democracy. From the Kyiv EuroMaidan rallies in support of a democratic and European Ukraine to thenew struggle for territorial integrity in the east, Ukraine continued to sacrifice her best men and women. Throughout all of these events, ourmembers responded generously and overwhelmingly to the growing humanitarian needs which developed in Ukraine.

We are proud that our members directed humanitarian assistance first tothe students of the EuroMaidan and then to the ill-equipped volunteer

battalions in the ATO and most recently to the re-habilitation of those injured soldiers returningfrom Eastern Ukraine. In 2014, BCU and its members raised $750,000 for these emergingneeds. Of this sum, $100,000 alone was allocated by BCU and its public-spirited mem-bers from patronage dividends paid out in 2014!

BCU members demonstrated their solidaritywith the Ukrainian people by embracing theshared universal principles of liberty, humanrights, and democracy as exemplified by their call to action and their generosity throughout the year.

INVESTINGWe continued to focus on the performance of each of our business lines.

In 2014 BCU Wealth Management reached a significant milestone, $100 mil-lion in assets under management. Our strategic initiatives for 2015 will buildon these successes as we strengthen client relationships, benefit fromemerging growth opportunities and support the professional development of our staff to ensure consistent attention and service to ourmembers and clients.

We will continue to address the needs of our members as we invest ourresources and capital in expanding and enriching the BCU member experience.

COMMITTINGLooking ahead to 2015, we will maintain our disciplined and balanced

approach to capital investment, as we look forward to enhancing our members’ banking experience. We remain committed to upgrade our product offerings, particularly in the sphere of digital banking services andin technology overall.

Equally important, we will continue to focus on investing in our human resources to ensure continuity in our leadership and the knowledge and skills required of our staff to meet the growing needs of our members and thechallenges of our expanding business model.

2014 рік був особливо емоційним для працівників та членів Кредитової Спілки Будучність. Ми відчули величезну повагу до свогонароду і намагались досягнути високих результатів в різних сферахнашої діяльності на користь наших членів та ширшої громади.

ЗростанняНезважаючи на конкуренцію на ринку фінансових послуг, активи

кредитівки зросли на $49 млн. або 7.4%, і становлять $709 млн, а активи Відділу Управління Майном збільшились на 15% і досягнули рекордної цифри $100 мільйонів. В результаті чого загальні активи підуправлінням зросли на 8.3% і склали $809 мільйонів.

В минулому році наші члени взяли позичок на $139 млн., що поступається тільки рівню 2012 року, і загальна сума перевищила$613 млн., збільшившись на 6.5% від 2013 р. Наші члени користуються вигідними відсотками своєї фінансової установи і заінвестували додатково $10 млн., в результаті чого до кінця звітного року загальнасума інвестицій досягла $606 млн.

Ми привітали 1,124 нових членів і тепер наша родина Будучностізбільшилася до 22,091 членів.

To the Members of Buduchnist Credit Union Ltd.:

The accompanying summary financial statements and the complete financial statements ofBuduchnist Credit Union Limited are (collectively, the “financial statements”)responsibility of management and have been approved by the Board of Directors.

Management is responsible for the preparation and presentation of the financial statements,including responsibility for significant accounting judgments and estimates, in accordance withInternational Financial Reporting Standards. This responsibility includes selecting appropriateaccounting policies and methods, and making decisions affecting the measurement oftransactions in which objective judgment is required.

In discharging its responsibilities for the integrity and fairness of the financial statements,management designs and maintains the necessary accounting systems and relatedinternal controls to provide reasonable assurance that transactions are authorized, assets are safeguarded and financial records are properly maintained to provide reliable informationfor the preparation of financial statements.

The Board of Directors are responsible for overseeing management in the performance of itsfinancial reporting responsibilities, and for approving the summary financial statements. The Audit Committee has the responsibility of meeting with management and externalauditors to discuss the internal controls over the financial reporting process, auditing mattersand financial reporting issues. The Audit Committee is also responsible for recommending theappointment of the Credit Union’s external auditors.

MNP LLP, an independent firm of Chartered Professional Accountants, is appointed by themembers to audit the summary financial statements and report directly to them. The externalauditors have full and free access to, and meet periodically and separately with, both the AuditCommittee and management to discuss their audit findings.

BCU has successfully increased its assets over thelast five years. The average growth of assets overthe period is 8.5%

The regulatory capital ratio of BCU has averaged8.4% of average assets over the last five years,which compares favourably against the Ontariocredit union average of 7.2%. The minimumregulatory capital ratio mandated by DICO is 4.0%

Loan costs have consistently remained low. Loancosts as a percent of average assets have averaged2 basis points over the last five years. During thissame time, Ontario credit unions averagedsignificantly higher loan costs of 11 basis points.

BCU’s membership profile provides a snapshot of ourstakeholders. The influx of new members joining BCUeach year continually reduces the average age of ourmembership. In Ontario, the number of seniors aged65 and older has risen to over 15% of the population.At BCU, this demographic represents only 9.2% of ourmembership. Since more than 1,100 new membersjoined BCU in 2014, we saw a reduction in theaverage age of our membership, the vast majority ofwhich represents a younger demographic.

The efficiency ratio measures how effectively thecredit union is managing its operating expenses.BCU’s control over expenses is demonstrated by itslow efficiency ratio. BCU has averaged a respectable73.27% throughout the last five years.

Audit Committee Report to Membership for Fiscal 2014

With growing complexity and increasing regulatory requirements, the Audit Committee continues to bean integral part of Buduchnist Credit Union’s overall framework of corporate governance. In accordancewith section 125 of the Credit Unions and Caisses Populaires Act (1994), the Audit Committee hasoversight responsibility for:

• Integrity of financial reporting process and financial statements• Adequacy and performance of internal and external audit functions• Adequacy and effectiveness of internal controls• Adequacy and effectiveness of the risk management process• Ensuring that policies, procedures and controls are in place and adhered to• Compliance with legal, regulatory and privacy requirements

The Audit Committee met ten times during the fiscal year. The Audit Committee fulfilled its mandate by:• reviewing monthly and quarterly financial and operational statement• reviewing monthly, quarterly and annual financial and operational statements• ensuring that the Credit Union complies with operational and regulatory requirements• reviewing, approving and monitoring the fiscal year budget• reviewing and approving year end audited financial statements, the external auditor’s

management letter and management’s response and audit fees• reviewing credit operations, liquidity, loan categorization and reporting • reviewing and approving policy and procedure changes, reporting requirements affecting Capital,

Credit, Governance and Operational functions• monitoring and reviewing financial, operational and risk management issues• monitoring anti money laundering, suspicious and fraudulent activity• overseeing that staff are upgrading their knowledge base by training especially as it relates to

fraud, anti-money laundering and risk management • monitoring and reviewing privacy issues• reviewing the implementation of Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) function • overseeing the implementation of Business Continuity Planning (BCP) and the ongoing updates to

BCU’s Disaster Recovery Plan

BCU has contracted the services of an internal auditor to assist in fulfilling these duties. The InternalAuditor completed reviews and made recommendations to the Management Team and the AuditCommittee with the aim of improving operational efficiency/effectiveness and ensuring that regulatoryand governance requirements are being adhered to. The Audit Committee reports that it is conducting its affairs in accordance with the Credit Unions andCaisse Populaire Act and Buduchnist’s by-laws and has completed its mandate for 2014. The AuditCommittee confirms that all actions and recommendations made by the Audit Committee were eithercompleted or are currently in the process of being completed and as such, there are no failures or short-comings to report. The Audit Committee also reports that there are no outstanding matters of a legal,privacy or governance nature and that there are no extraordinary matters or issues related to the financesand operations of Buduchnist Credit Union which requires any special attention or disclosure.The Audit Committee would like to thank Management, Staff and the Board and its Committees for theirco-operation, contributions and support during the course of the fiscal year.

За ініціативи професора Любомира Луцюкавідкрито меморіальні таблички по всій Канаді, які віддзеркалюютьці темні сторінки канадської історії. Таблички були також відкриті внаших відділах в Торонто та Оттаві. Пам’ятаймо історію українцівКанади!

BCU was among the 100 communitiesacross Canada that unveiled plaquesmarking the 100th anniversary of theimplementation of the War Measures Act,which led to Canada’s first internmentoperations. Buduchnist Credit Union, thelargest Ukrainian-Canadian financialinstitution, was honoured to be one of thesites to display this historic plaque not onlyin remembrance of those interned, but as areminder of the value of civil liberties andhuman rights.

Buduchnist is a proud sponsor of the Shevchenko monument on the“Allée des Poètes.” On May 31, 2014, the Shevchenko monument bysculptor Oleh Lesiuk, was unveiled by the Ukrainian community on“Poets’ Lane” in Quebec City, commemorating the 200thAnniversary of the birth of Ukraine’s most famous poet TarasShevchenko.

In July of 2014, the Honourable Ed Fast, Minister of InternationalTrade headed a trade mission to Ukraine. Buduchnist Credit Unionwas invited to participate in the official trade delegation, whichmarked Canada’s ongoing commitment to supporting the newUkrainian government’s economic, political, and security needs.

Зв’язок Будучності з Україною є постійним. Починаючи злистопада 2013 р. і до сьогодні Будучність та її члени підтримуютьборотьбу українців в Україні за демократію та свободу. Протягомцього часу наші члени разом зі своєю Будучністю зібрали$750,000, які були використані на гуманітарну допомогу.

Ми пишаємось нашою кредитівкою і нашими членами ще більше,тому що разом також подарували для підтримки України $100,000своїх дивідендів, які були виплачені за минулий 2014 рік на:Фонд „Приятелі Збройних Сил України” – $41,653, Фонд „АнгелиХоронителі України” – $39,257, Фонд „Небесна сотня” – $19,090.

За ініціативи Ліґи Українок та Ліґи Українців Канади в КСБудучність започатковано Фонд „Приятелі Збройних СилУкраїни”, кошти з якого направляються на гуманітарну допомогузахисникам України на придбання їжі, одягу, медикаментів таінших потрібних речей.

Фонд „Небесна сотня” – допомога пораненим та родинамзагиблих

За ініціативи члена кредитівки Мотрі Ільницької, в КС Будучність започатковано фонд „Небеснасотня” для допомоги пораненим та родинамзагиблих Героїв. Наші члени активно відгукнулисьна заклик про допомогу. Крім цього ФундаціяБудучність виступила головним спонсоромвидання першої збірки віршів з Майдану „Небеснасотня”. Фонд “Ангели хоронителі України”

В грудні 2014 р. Ліґа Українок Канади заініціювала в КС Будучністьфонд „Ангели Хоронителі України” – допомога в створенніреабілітаційних центрів для українських військових.

З цією метою до Торонто прибули активістка-Депутат ВерховноїРади України Тетяна Чорновол, лікар Шпиталю Майдану РусланДобровольський та легендарний військовий лікар ВсеволодСтеблюк, який вивіз із зони фронту десятки поранених. Відбувсябенкет-зустріч гостей з нашою громадою за участю МіністраЮстиції Канади дост. Пітера МекКей, представників урядуКанади, громадських діячів та меценатів проекту. Нашафінансова установа виступила головним спонсором.

Дирекція, працівники та члениБудучності були активними ворганізації мітингів на захистукраїнських інтересів,виступали на радіо тателебаченні, брали участь вофіційних поїздках делегацій в Україну.

Крім дотацій від жертводавців, Фундаціянамагається сама здобути фонди. В 2014 р.Фундація організувала вже четвертий турнір зґольфу, дохід з якого направлений на підтримкуукраїнських спортсменів Канади.

The BCU Foundation held their annual golftournament for the 4th year at the Dragon's FireGolf Club Club to raise funds in support of UkrainianCanadian Athletes.

The BCU Foundation was a proud sponsor of a benefit concert Canada& Ukraine Together – Razom. This unique event was undertaken toshow the support Canadians have for those selfless heroes whocontinue to fight for dignity, freedom and human rights in Ukraine, the values Canadian hold dear.

More than 100 performers from Canada and Ukraine came together at the Mississauga Living Arts Centre on March 28th to support thefamilies of those who perished or were seriously injured on the Maidanand on the streets of Kyiv in February 2014.
