What a way to end the season!

An emphatic win against the

long time nemesis Port Mel-

bourne saw the BDCC Men's

1st X1 win the 2013 South

Div. premiership in style, Dis-

trict Style!

We will long remember the

200 run partnership between

the little maestro ,YT and his

big hearted pommie partner,

‘Gorgeous’ George that guar-

anteed us victory. Undoubtedly

one of the best partnerships

seen at this level in the long

history of the VTCA.

It wasn't just that one

partnership that saw our 1st

X1 boys take home the flag

however. It has long been said

that Cricket is a team game

and this solid group of mates,

who have battled away over

many years of adversity

showed the strength of charac-

ter and self belief to dominate

the entire season.

Led by a Captain who has a

brilliant knack of bringing a

group of individuals together

as a tight knit combination,

bolstered by the class of two

‘Poms’ and driven by a strong

belief that a Premiership was

long overdue, this team

brought the Club glory.

So what of season 2013-14?

Well undoubtedly it just gets

tougher. Promoted to play in

Senior Division our boys will

have to knuckle down and

work doubly hard to produce a

successful season. Will Jen-

kins will not be returning and

there is still doubt over the

return of George Bacon, new

recruits will be sought and

most importantly its time for

our younger generation, Jones,

Dickson, Wakeling, Gould etc

to take the next step.

new ‘Poms’.

Lucy Uncle and Holly Richard-

son both hail from the same

club, Kirkstall in Yorkshire. As

is often the case for talented

young women cricketers they

are all rounder's, and are com-

petitive enough to play for

local men's teams each Satur-

day. Holly has a top score of

103no but Lucy wants to go

one better than her top of 99!

The Club is pleased to an-

nounce the recruitment of two

English women to bolster the

strength of the women's 1st

X1. With Georgette Psaila una-

vailable with the impending

birth of her child and Kiemi Lai

being unable to commit due to

work commitments the team

was in need of some fresh

blood so it has been a great

achievement to recruit the two

Both girls are staying with

Woody and Emma whom they

met when our girls played in

England last season. They will

be in good hands and are sure

to have a great time. Make

sure you introduce yourself to

the girls on their arrival and

make them feel very welcome.

VTCA South Division Premiers 2013!

Two New English roses!

Leggieri is determined that

they will go the extra step this

season. Legs has identified

consistency across the batting

order as being a particular

area of attention this season.

There have been some excel-

lent individual batting perfor-

mances at the top of the order

but depth of batting is what

wins the big matches.

Legs is determined to see the

intensity of training sessions

improved. With Coach Allan

Reddy in his second year with

the women he can now push

the girls to greater heights. Al

and Legs will be sure to put

the pressure on all team mem-

bers to strongly commit to

training attendance and inten-

sity.

With two T20 premierships the

girls have had a sniff of suc-

cess but a sniff doesn't cut it,

its time for a great big chunk!

Our Women’s 1st X1 want more!

Season 2012-13 saw the

Women's 1st X1 go back to

back in the VWCA T20, a fan-

tastic achievement. However

there is an keen hunger to go

one better this season. Not

only are the women hunting a

three-peat but they are desper-

ate to take home the one day

premiership as well.

Having seen her team be beat-

en in the past two seasons one

day semi finals Captain ‘Legs’

A word from the B.D.C.C President...

Quiz time: What do you know about your Club...

‘What record does this man hold?

involved to ease the burden on those few who do too much. Think about what you could do to help with the day to day operations of the club. All jobs around the club are of equal im-portance and the more peo-ple that help the more en-joyable everyone’s experi-ence at the club becomes. If you would like to help in any capacity please come and have a chat to me or any member of the committee and we will gladly take you

up on your offer. Lastly I would like to wish all club members well in the 2013/14 season. I hope that you are all personally suc-cessful and that you enjoy playing this great game. I wish every team success and look forward to sharing another year with you all. Regards Rob Mason President

Holly Richardson and Lucy Uncles—Our two English ladies who will significantly bolster our 1st X1 women's team. Our club faces the usual challenges this year the first being raising enough funds to allow us to continually improve the facilities and equipment to provide our members with the best chance to win premierships. I challenge all members of the club to become more

Name : Brian Randall

Nickname : I have a few but

everyone knows me mainly

as Barrel

Favourite AFL team :

Collingwood

Favourite Music album or

artist : Currently loving a bit

of Rick Ross/Jay Z

Favourite Australian Test

Player Past or present :

Michael Slater/Michael

Bevan

Best player you have

played with or against at

BDCC :

A bit bias and going to give

this a bloke a big head but

for talent and ability it

would have to be George

Bacon especially how hard

he works on his game etc.

Played against V.T.C A Stal-

warts is obvious in Daykin

but Hardham always

seems to bat well against

us as well

Choose one of the two

R Ponting or B Lara :

‘Punter’

Kapil Dev or Imran Khan :

Kapil Dev

R Marsh or A Knott : Marsh

Elle McPherson or Jennifer

Hawkins : Both please? If not

Jen as she is younger :)

Lets get to know …Premiership Star ‘Barrel’...

Will the real Brian Randall please stand up

Who or what has had the

worst influence on your

cricket : (humour)

Men’s 1st XI Skipper Ross

Stewart for not letting me

have the new pill last year…

I had Stuart Gara/Ben

Manning covered mate!

Best sledger you've played

with or against: Men’s 1st

XI Captain Ross Stewart is

pretty good

Who had greatest influence

on your cricket:

My stepdad Craig got me

playing pretty late com-

pared to other kids at the

age of 10 and was always

encouraging.. One net ses-

sion he pointed out that I

lack one thing… “you lack

one thing….. ability but

keep going”

Finally the most overrated

player you have played with

or against : why?

Jason Oldfield, for a bloke

who keeps reminding

everyone about how good

he is…(chuckles)

Page 4

Issue 1, Edition 1

What was your greatest

on field moment

(exaggeration welcome) :

The triple treat everyone

got to see in the GF last

year. First I got Daykin

out with the wide ‘outty

which I think Jase, Jason

Oldfield, has never been

so scared in his life with

myself running at him

after the catch was tak-

en. My one handed verti-

cal diving to the left

catch off George in the

same game (Canclunk

em) and the Premiership!

Funniest sledge you've

heard or given –

George telling a 12yr old

last season that “I’m going

to bowl the first ball full

and at the stumps you bet-

ter let it bowl you or I'm

going to take your head

off!!’

Where do you see the future of Australian cricket?

Very good, we have a lot of younger guys coming

through who are 20-24 who are talented very good

cricketers especially with the ball. We are probs lack-

ing a good keeper at the moment and the batsman

will keep developing Silk, Burns, Maddison and

Marsh. 20/20 is stifling us I think with the younger

blokes playing to much of it which hurts them in the

longer forms of the game.

After the disappointment of

last season semi final we

asked skipper Saul Wanjtraub

for his thoughts on the forth-

coming season “Our Men's

2nds dominated South 2’s last

year before being upset in the

semi final and are desperate

to go one step further this year

in Senior 2’s. Having finished

runners –up 3 years ago and

3rd last year it’s time to make

the most of this talented group

and bring home some silver-

ware.”

The 2nds bowling has been

the best in the competition for

a number of years it’s now

time to make sure the bats-

man value their wicket and

combine for consistent scores

of 180-200 that will win most

games with our bowling line-

up. We are fortunate that most

of the lads are all-rounders so

we have many bowling options

and plenty of guys with the

talent to make a big score.

The team has an exciting mix

of young and old, we have a

talented batting line up and a

bowling attack equal to any in

the comp. Current players will

be challenged by some bud-

ding young guns in Mortimer

Stanfield, Williamson, Selig

and Wakeling looking to force

their way in to the team. The

challenge should bring out the

best in all of us.

With the experience of Stewart

and Lasky as body and time

commitment allow, the bowling

coaching of Frank Olle, the

batting coaching of YT and a

hunger to avenge last years’

wasted opportunity and all the

pieces are there for the 2’s to

have a successful season.

Of these players who has the

best Ashes Test Bowling aver-

age ?

A) Shane Warne B) Richie

Benaud C) Jim Laker D) Terry

Alderman

Of the current Australian Test

players , how many have made

over 20,000 first class runs

A) 1 B) 0 C)3 D) 4

The first ashes test 1877 and

the Centenary test 1977 were

won by Australia in both

matches by the same number

of runs, which was ?

A) 32 B) 45 C) 77 D) 19

The most number of Ashes

test ducks is held by ?

A) Syd Gregory B) Glen

Mcgrath C) Shane Warne D)

Clarrie Grimmet

Which two former Australian

test players originated from

Wagga Wagga?

Who was the last Australian

Test bowler to take a Ashes

New Senior Men’s Coaches Announced

The little maestro , YT , pictured below acknowledging the plaudits of the

BDCC army, has been appointed the Clubs Men’s Batting and Fielding

coach for season 2013-14. After 13 years of service and coming of a bril-

liant Grand final knock of 138 no. it seemed only natural for YT to take on

the task of lifting the standard of the Mens batting stocks. After all the

spritely ‘21’ year old won’t be around for ever and its time for the young

bucks to step up to the standard that Senior Division will require.

The other important Coaching announcement is that Frank Olle a Brighton

East legend is returning to his old club to take on the role of Men’s bowl-

ing coach. The former fearsome 1st X1 opening bowler with Brighton East

will return to work with our young seam bowlers in particular. Frank has

also promised to throw the whites back on and we welcome his return to

the field with us. He’s still got a lot to offer both with the ball and his lead-

ership.
