I. THOSE WHO HUNGER AND THIRST FOR RIGHTEOUSNESS-V 6

• Hunger: The discomfort, weakness, or pain caused by a prolonged lack of food

• A strong desire or craving• Thirst: A sensation of dryness in the mouth

and throat related to a need or desire to drink.

• The desire to drink:• 2 types of righteousness1. Imparted righteousness2. Imputed- to credit to a person or a cause

-To lay the responsibility or blame• Imparted righteousness is what Jesus gave

us to be saved. Romans 5:19• Imputed righteousness is our righteousness

after being saved

Page 4: THE BE ATTITUDES-II Text: Matthew 5:1-12 Intro: What were the three be attitudes we have discussed last week? The poor in spirit Those who mourn The meek/patient.

• To have Christ made the righteousness of God in him

• To have the whole man renewed in righteousness, so as to become a new man

• To bear the image of God• To have an interest in Christ and the promises• These we must hunger and thirst after. We

must truly and really desire them, as one who is hungry and thirsty desires meat and drink, who cannot be satisfied with any thing but meat and drink, and will be satisfied with them, though other things be wanting.

• "Give me these, or else I die”• Every thing else is dross and chaff,

unsatisfying; • Give me these, and I have enough, though I

had nothing else.’’

Page 5: THE BE ATTITUDES-II Text: Matthew 5:1-12 Intro: What were the three be attitudes we have discussed last week? The poor in spirit Those who mourn The meek/patient.

• Hunger and thirst are appetites that return frequently, and call for fresh satisfactions

• The quickened soul calls for constant meals of righteousness, grace to do the work of every day in its day, as duly as the living body calls for food.

• Those who hunger and thirst will labour for supplies

• Pro 16:26 The person who labours, labours for himself, For his hungry mouth drives him on.

• So we must not only desire spiritual blessings, but take pains for them

• Hunger is a desire of food to sustain• Thirst is the desire of drink to refresh• Blessed are they for they will be satisfied/filled• The key for satisfaction is being hungry and

thirsty

Page 6: THE BE ATTITUDES-II Text: Matthew 5:1-12 Intro: What were the three be attitudes we have discussed last week? The poor in spirit Those who mourn The meek/patient.

• Pro 27:7 A satisfied soul loathes the honeycomb, But to a hungry soul every bitter thing is sweet.

• In other words those Christians who are not satisfied are not hungry and thirsty for righteousness

• To be hungry and thirsty for righteousness is an act or grace of God and He will enable us to do what we desire for.

• Phil 1:6 being confident of this very thing, that He who has begun a good work in you will complete it until the day of Jesus Christ;

• Phil 2:13 for it is God who works in you both to will and to do for His good pleasure.

• Luk 1:53 He hath filled the hungry with good things; and the rich he hath sent empty away.

V. BLESSED ARE THE MERCIFUL-V 7•Do you know that the Lord is not merciful to all people?•Exodus 33:19 And he said, I will make all my goodness pass before thee, and I will proclaim the name of the LORD before thee; and will be gracious to whom I will be gracious, and will show mercy on whom I will show mercy. •Pro 21:13 Whoever shuts his ears to the cry of the poor Will also cry himself and not be heard. •Job 6:14 "To him who is afflicted, kindness should be shown by his friend, Even though he forsakes the fear of the Almighty. •Col 3:12 Therefore, as the elect of God, holy and beloved, put on tender mercies, kindness, humility, meekness, longsuffering;

Page 8: THE BE ATTITUDES-II Text: Matthew 5:1-12 Intro: What were the three be attitudes we have discussed last week? The poor in spirit Those who mourn The meek/patient.

• We must have compassion on the souls of others:-pity the ignorant, and instruct them-the careless, and warn them

• Jud 1:22 And on some have compassion, making a distinction;

• Jud 1:23 but others save with fear, pulling them out of the fire, hating even the garment defiled by the flesh. -those who are in a state of sin, and snatch

them as brands out of the burning.-those who are in want, and supply them

• Jam 2:15 If a brother or sister is naked and destitute of daily food,

Page 9: THE BE ATTITUDES-II Text: Matthew 5:1-12 Intro: What were the three be attitudes we have discussed last week? The poor in spirit Those who mourn The meek/patient.

• Jam 2:16 and one of you says to them, "Depart in peace, be warmed and filled," but you do not give them the things which are needed for the body, what does it profit?

• 1Jo 3:17 But whoever has this world's goods, and sees his brother in need, and shuts up his heart from him, how does the love of God abide in him?

• Isa 58:7 Is it not to share your bread with the hungry, And that you bring to your house the poor who are cast out; When you see the naked, that you cover him, And not hide yourself from your own flesh?

• Blessed are they for they obtain mercy from the Lord

Page 10: THE BE ATTITUDES-II Text: Matthew 5:1-12 Intro: What were the three be attitudes we have discussed last week? The poor in spirit Those who mourn The meek/patient.

• Act 20:35 "I have shown you in every way, by labouring like this, that you must support the weak. And remember the words of the Lord Jesus, that He said, 'It is more blessed to give than to receive.'"

• Psalm 18:25 With the merciful thou wilt show thyself merciful; with an upright man thou wilt show thyself upright;

VI. BLESSED ARE THE PURE IN HEART-V 8• Jer 4:14 O Jerusalem, wash your heart from

wickedness, That you may be saved. How long shall your evil thoughts lodge within you?

• JoeL 2:13 and rend your hearts and not your garments." Return to the LORD your God, for he is gracious and merciful, slow to anger, and abounding in steadfast love; and he relents over disaster.

Page 11: THE BE ATTITUDES-II Text: Matthew 5:1-12 Intro: What were the three be attitudes we have discussed last week? The poor in spirit Those who mourn The meek/patient.

• Pro 25:4 Take away the dross from the silver, and the smith has material for a vessel;

• The reason why we undergo trials is for us to be refine and become pure

• 1Pe 1:7 that the genuineness of your faith, being much more precious than gold that perishes, though it is tested by fire, may be found to praise, honour, and glory at the revelation of Jesus Christ

• The purpose of having the commands is for to be generous and have a pure heart

• I Tim 1:5 Now the end of the commandment is charity out of a pure heart, and [of] a good conscience, and [of] faith unfeigned

• The heart must be pure opposite to mixture• The heart must be kept pure from

- fleshly lusts

-from worldly lusts; -covetousness is called filthy lucre

•Blessed are they for they will see God•Psa 17:15 As for me, I will see Your face in righteousness; I shall be satisfied when I awake in Your likeness. •Hebrew 12:14 Pursue peace with all people, and holiness, without which no one will see the Lord:•Ex. Moses- Deut 4:14-15 Vs. Numbers 12:6-8VII. BLESSED ARE THE PEACEMAKERS-V 9•James 3:17 But the wisdom that is from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, willing to yield, full of mercy and good fruits, without partiality and without hypocrisy. •The blessed ones are pure toward God and peaceable toward men

Page 13: THE BE ATTITUDES-II Text: Matthew 5:1-12 Intro: What were the three be attitudes we have discussed last week? The poor in spirit Those who mourn The meek/patient.

• A peaceable disposition: as, to make a lie, is to be given and addicted to lying, so, to make peace, is to have a strong and hearty affection to peace

• Psalm 120:7 I [am for] peace: but when I speak, they [are] for war.

• It is to love, and desire, and delight in peace.• The making of peace is sometimes a thankless

office, and it is the lot of him who parts a fray, to have blows on both sides; yet it is a good office, and we must be forward to it.

• They are bleed in a way that they have the satisfaction of enjoying themselves, by keeping the peace, and of being truly serviceable to others.

• They are working together with Christ, who came into the world to slay all enmities, and to proclaim peace on earth.

VIII. BLESSED ARE THOSE WHO ARE PERSECUTED FOR RIGHTEOUSNESS SAKE-V 10•This is unusual for Christians or not even understood most of the time•This is the only beatitude mentioned twice•Who suffer because they will not sin against their consciences•Who suffer for doing that which is good. •1Pe 2:20 For what credit is it if, when you are beaten for your faults, you take it patiently? But when you do good and suffer, if you take it patiently, this is commendable before God. •1Pe 2:21 For to this you were called, because Christ also suffered for us, leaving us an example, that you should follow His steps: •1Pe 2:22 "Who committed no sin, Nor was deceit found in His mouth";

Page 15: THE BE ATTITUDES-II Text: Matthew 5:1-12 Intro: What were the three be attitudes we have discussed last week? The poor in spirit Those who mourn The meek/patient.

• 1Pe 2:23 who, when He was reviled, did not revile in return; when He suffered, He did not threaten, but committed Himself to Him who judges righteously;

• “Ang punong namumunga binabato”• The reason why Satan persecutes us is we are

a threat to Him• The greater the persecution the greater is the

usefulness in God’s kingdom• That would mean if you’re not persecuted you

are of no use in His kingdom• 1John 3:13 - 13 Marvel not, my brethren, if the

world hate you.• John 15:19 If you were of the world, the world

would love its own. Yet because you are not of the world, but I chose you out of the world, therefore the world hates you.

Page 16: THE BE ATTITUDES-II Text: Matthew 5:1-12 Intro: What were the three be attitudes we have discussed last week? The poor in spirit Those who mourn The meek/patient.

• 1Pe 4:1 Therefore, since Christ suffered for us in the flesh, arm yourselves also with the same mind, for he who has suffered in the flesh has ceased from sin,

• Rejoice and be exceedingly glad• Great is your reward in heaven• For so they persecuted the prophets who were

before you-v 12. • You’re just on the right side or right track•

And cast me not away from Thy presence oh Lord,

And take not Thy Holy Spirit from me.Restore unto me the joy of Thy salvation,

And renew a right spirit within me.
