We are so glad you’ve chosen to worship with us this week! Hearing assistance devices are available for the Sanctuary. Please see an usher to obtain these aids.

Enjoy fellowship, coffee, and snacks in the Family Life Center Gym between worship services.

Our Vision Christ-centered, multigenerational, family and community relevant ministries

through worship, discipleship, and mission.

Our Mission REACH, TEACH, and SEND

We REACH out to our congregation, community, and the world to TEACH the word of God as provided in the Holy Scripture, and SEND our members and

missionaries to be witnesses to God’s grace and His promise of eternal life to us through the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ.

Worship Services

Break Free Our Saturday evening service begins at 6:00 pm in the Family Life Center opening with a gathering and fellowship time at 5:30 pm. This transformational service involves modern music, multimedia, and a style of preaching that is practical and participatory.

Traditions At 8:00 and 11:00 am Sunday mornings in the Sanctuary we celebrate through the rich traditions of our faith such as hymns led by organ and piano, seasonal vestments, and traditional Methodist liturgy. Our Chancel Choir leads the 11:00 service.

Connect At 9:30 Sunday mornings in the Sanctuary we engage in a four-fold service of gathering praise, service of the Word, Holy Communion with candle stations for prayer, and sending forth. The music is a blend of contemporary praise songs and upbeat hymns.

Freedom At 11:07 Sunday mornings in the Family Life Center Gym we worship through modern music, multimedia, and a teaching style message in a non-traditional atmosphere. We come to God as we are to experience the freedom of not having to stay that way.

Welcome to Shalimar UMC

Our Mission Teams Go to Mexico

Our Poinsettia Project will support five of the missions of Shalimar UMC: Our Mexico missions, Military Ministry, F.A.I.T.H. Backpack, Cuba hurricane relief, and Meals on Wheels. This week we highlight our Mexico Missions. For the past eight years, several of our Shalimar church members go twice a year to the Casa Hogar Elim orphanage in Nuevo Laredo, Mexico. This is an ecumenical trip coordinated by Pastor Shaun Ellis of Beachside Community Church. In the summer, they

engage in construction projects and vacation Bible school, and in December, they spend time with the children and help them have a merry Christmas. The children at the orphanage experience the love of Christ through the work of our mission team as they bring gifts, clothes, and teach them about the Bible.

Over the eight years we have been doing this, we have formed long term relationships with the children and those working in Mexico. Connie Wilson, the coordinator for the Shalimar group, has seen the children grow and be shaped by their efforts over the years. Some of the orphans have reached adulthood and graduated, and now want to be missionaries themselves to other areas. As they looked for a way for the orphan graduates to serve, God led them to the home of Claudia Morales.

When Claudia Morales lost her husband, she found herself in a difficult situation. The people who took her and her children in demanded that she must leave the church if she is to stay with them. In faith, she chose homelessness. So her church is working to create a home for her family, and we are joining in the cause. Crosspoint UMC in Niceville learned of her predicament, and is now working to create a new home for her and her children. Our Mexico mission team is pleased to work side by side with the children they have helped over the years.

There are several slots open for a brief trip to Casa Hogar Elim from December 27 to January 1. For more information, contact Connie Wilson at 850-803-4380.

Philip’s Focus “My 100 Blessings for the Year”

You have likely heard me already say it but I believe it so much I will say it again! Thanksgiving is one of my favorite days of the year. There is only one thing I do not like about Thanksgiving. What is the one thing? That Thanksgiving only lasts one day. If I were in charge of the calendar I would make Thanksgiving 364 days of the year and designate one day as “Gripe Day.” On this day, we could just get all of our griping out of our system and devote the rest of the year to giving thanks to God for all of our blessings! As a standard practice I compile a list of 100 blessings each year. Here is a sample of some of my blessings for this year! The Lord is doing a new thing…not finished with me yet… and the best is

ahead. Blessed to proclaim the message of Jesus’ salvation, redemption, grace, and

resurrection which is truly the greatest message in the world. My wife of 32 years, Karen, who somehow put up with me and last week was

named Teacher of the Year at Meigs Middle School. My daughters Mallory, Brooke, and Haley and sons-in-laws Brian and Matt

and a perfect grandchild Luke. Brian just received a promotion. Mallory has had an incredible year in her life and as a mother. Luke is a “rock star” in our family. Matt was reassigned to Whidbey Navy Base in the state of Washington. Brooke has done so well adapting as a spouse of one who serves. Haley has done so well in her work and as a praise singer in her church. My Mother who continues to be a real “rock” of stability for our family, 87

years young. Blessed to be able to run faster and further this year than I did last. Grateful for all those who serve and first responders to keep us free and safe. Blessed to live and be a pastor in these challenging and extraordinary times. Grateful to the people I pastor at Shalimar United Methodist Church. Blessed by all who serve and give so generously through Shalimar United

Methodist Church. Thankful for 12x12 leadership/disciple team for the opportunity to begin new

12x12’s . Grateful for lay leaders who give and give and give for their church. Blessed to work with an incredible staff that goes more extra miles than my

car. My car, by the way, now has over 239,000 miles and is over 14 years old and

going strong. Thankful for new leaders willing to step up and serve their church. Blessed by the invisible servants that make so much happen.

Shalimar history. Blessed by so many prayers and generosity during pastor appreciation month. Blessed by those willing to pray but also fast to be aligned with God’s higher

purposes. These are some of my blessings. I would invite you to count your blessing this year.

This Week’s Guide for Groups & Individuals

Faith Parry, Associate Pastor [email protected]

Pastor Faith is starting a Life Group for couples with kids, the week after Thanksgiving. This will be for four weeks focusing on the Sermon Series, Advent Conspiracy. This group will meet in Faith’s home. If you are interested please email [email protected] for further information.

"The Creator of the cosmos chose, from among his numberless galaxies and spinning stars, one tiny rock of a planet on which to enter human life in the most natural and self-effacing of ways — through the womb of an unwed teenage girl," (Advent Conspiracy, pg. 8). Just think about that for a moment. As we move into the season of Christmas and Advent, we are setting aside time to stop, remember, and worship a God who transformed himself into a physical form and lived and walked among us. This series is all about us releasing the power of Christmas in our lives and our world so we can transform others through the power and wonder of Christmas. We can still change the world through the Birth of Christ. I challenge you to pick up a copy of Advent Conspiracy and travel through this series with us. You can get it online, on Kindle, or even Audible. We also have some groups walking through the series as well. Check them out by visiting http://www.shalimar-umc.org/groups/advent-conspiracy/.This Christmas, make a point to make a difference in the world. Things to get you thinking: 1. What are some of the positive memories you have of Christmas?

2. Do you still look forward to the Christmas Season?

3. What word would best describe what you want to experience this year during the Christmas season? *Advent Conspiracy, Rick McKinley & Chris Seay, p. 117: Worship Fully Discussion Questions.

“Let us not love with words or speech but with action and truth” 1 John 3:18.

Did you know that within our church we have a mission called The Faith Backpack Program? Since 2008, over 35 faithful members support this mission with their time and talents to ease weekend hunger of children attending Shalimar Elementary and Meigs Middle School. These children are identified through their schools guidance department as a high risk for food insecurity. Each Wednesday during the school year, our volunteers pack 65 bags containing two meals and deliver them to the schools. Knowing these children have food for the weekend is a huge comfort and is often what carries them over until their school lunches resume the following week. The funding for this mission does not come from the churches annual budget. It is funded by private donations from the incredible members of our church over and above their annual giving. This year we are launching our annual campaign to support one child for $150.00 per year. What does $150.00 buy? 2 meals per week, 8 meals per month for 8 months for one child! That’s an average of 64 meals for only $18.75 per month! The last two years’ hunger campaign has served as proof of this congregation’s love and selflessness. What a blessing any donation contributed in any amount will be for a child who suffers with daily food insecurities due to no fault of their own.

Blessings to each of you during this Thanksgiving Holiday and all year long – you are loved and appreciated!

Should you feel led to help - donations are always accepted by contacting the church office or by placing your donation in the offering plate. Please remember to mark each donation is for the Faith Backpack Program.

It’s likely you have a giant in your life that is holding you captive, intimidating you, and stealing your joy. Adversaries like fear, rejection, comfort, anger, and addiction stake a claim and gain a foothold in your heart. In this seven-day reading plan, Louie Giglio examines the David and Goliath story to show how those giants can fall: by focusing on the size of our God, not the height of your giants, and by walking in the victory Jesus has already won.
