“We enlisted the help of an excellent local architect, who before drawing up the final plans asked us to come up with a wish list of everything we wanted the house to incorporate. We told him we wanted balconies from which we could enjoy these lovely surroundings, lots of glass that would enhance the feeling of connection between inside and out, and we also asked for high ceilings and a house with an overall feeling of light and space throughout, and I’d say that the final design has given us all of those things.”

“The main living space is a huge open-plan room that combines the kitchen, dining and lounge area, and folding doors have been installed, which when pushed back create a seamless connection with the outside space – in fact, so seamless that it’s hard to tell where the house ends and the garden begins – and two of the bedrooms have balconies, so upstairs or down there’s a really nice sense of synergy between inside and out. We’ve also been able to incorporate technology such as underfloor heating, which we have on both floors, there’s also a ventilation system and we’ve installed solar panels for which we receive a rather hefty rebate each year.”

“The house is everything we hoped it would be, and we’re lucky enough to also have a really beautiful garden that is screened on all sides by hedges, shrubs and mature trees which give total privacy,” continues the owner. “We have open lawns, a wildflower area, raised beds where we can grow our own veg, and there are lots of lovely places to sit and relax. We particularly love being out on the deck on a warm summers evening with a bowl of nibbles and a glass of red wine just gazing at the view and watching the wildlife. It’s total bliss, and one of the many things we’ll really miss when we leave.”

“All of the rooms have a wow factor, but the space that we tend to spend the majority of our time in is the open-plan kitchen-and-living area. It’s a lovely big sociable space and it connects so beautifully and so seamlessly with the garden.”
