The Benefits of RFID in the Cold StorageWarehouse
By Laura OlsonDirector of Sales and Marketing
RFID and Receiving
• Improves throughput speed of product at receiving dock
• Eliminates need to physically check Bill of Lading and/or packing slip
• If RFID is integrated with WMS, system will indicate if product needs a cross-dock movement
• Helps manage the flow of goods into the warehouse
• Can significantly reduce labor hours spent on managing the damaged good process
• No need to place barcode face up or on top of box to be read
• RFID can be read regardless of position
Benefits:
• Reduced labor cost
• Improved worker productivity
• Improves speed of product flow through the warehouse
RFID Provides Greater Efficiencies in Conveyor Systems
RFID Improves Temporary Storage in the Warehouse
• No need to place product and pallets in specific assigned locations
• Helps create a more flexible storage environment
• Minimizes “honeycombing” (large empty rack slots that exist among filled slots in a racked warehouse)
• Can be used to identify product compatibility problems to alert employees to move incompatible or hazardous products away from each other
RFID Benefits for Cold Storage Warehouses
When RFID readers are integrated with WMS the system can:

• Facilitate the return process of damaged or unsellable goods
• Improve quality control on order integrity
• Increase putaway rates
• Improve dock utilization
• Help reduce employee theft
• Improve accuracy of the shipping process
• Increase worker productivity
• Enhance fulfillment accuracy
• Minimizes errors in placement of shipments
• Eliminate the need for physical inventory counts
• Reduce cycle counts
• Reduce the likelihood of a stock-out due to misplaced inventory
• Enhance safety stock levels
• Improve order cycle times and cycle service levels
RFID Benefits for Cold Storage Warehouses
Eskimo Cold Storage, Gainesville Georgia
RFID PROJECT OBJECTIVE
• Help prevent misplaced inventory using a combination of Jamison RFID portal and Datex middleware
METHODOLOGY
• Eskimo Cold Storage uses a two step putaway process
• RFID portal positioned at entry to freezer and RFID interrogator positioned in the
aisle to capture inventory movement
• Datex middleware reads the RFID tag and provides tag location, time and date stamp on entry to WMS
