Kalvi Rathna Late Ln.Dr.V. Michael , B.E., M.I.S.E.,Ph.D (USA) was an altruistic and committed academician who responded to the challenges of improving the educational status especially in technical skills for the younger generations who were deprived of the benefits of professional education in the rural areas. With relentless efforts and foreseen big pictures, our founder emphasized on excellence in education that would enhance the creative and innovative skills, physical and intellectual well-being of the students. Having crossed long years of hurdles and obstacles he reached the zenith of determination through St.Michael Educational and Charitable Trust offering value based quality education. He engraved a milestone in the field of education in the soil of rural areas.

Taking education to the marginalized classes of society across the state, especially in Sivagangai district and with an intuition to instil world class quality education, the man of stupendous efforts, our founder established “St.Michael Educational

and Charitable Trust” in the Year 1993. Two decades had passed by from the inception of our trust. The demands and expectations were satisfied without any compromise. The Trust has established 15 other institutions during the last 23 years that gained their own prominence among the public and an outstanding place in the minds of the student community. The service and charity of the Trust still continue very productively.

Helping people live better lives with sound knowledge –it’s who we are and what we do. It is the heart and soul of the Charitable Trust.

The fusion of knowledge and experience brings the right wisdom that drives the organization. Our visionary, the founder started the Charitable Trust with a pursuit to establish a world class reputed university. The youth of rural areas got the golden opportunity to get groomed in the best intellectual environment nurtured by his personal involvement and effort to set new performance benchmark in the field of education especially to the deprived young champs. The words of Albert Einstein are the bedrock of our institution. Our College aims at becoming a pacesetter in developing next generation teaching and learning methods to foster individual excellence and participation of our students in the full range of academic, spiritual, cultural, social and physical activities, and make them socially sensible all rounders.

Our chief objective is to develop confidence, self-motivation, research and problem solving skill sets and imbibe value education among our students. We give top priority to discipline and knowledge and the application of the same for societal progress and upliftment.

We do not feed the students with mere facts and knowledge. Instead, we motivate them to be the source of knowledge themselves. It has been possible by the efforts of our staff, who mould themselves first before they mould the students. They demonstrate what they teach and they live what they profess.

We strongly believe that the secret of education lies in respecting the students. We aim at not only

educating the young to be successful Engineers and Entrepreneurs but also to churn out socially responsible human beings of tomorrow.

ABOUT THE TRUST

Having trust in God and propelled by passion to serve people, there emerged a Trust by name and style “ St.Michael Educational and CharitableTrust” in 1993. It was established with a vision to serve people who were economically poor and socially distant to the quality technical Education. It has adorned itself with a rich experience of 22 Years. There are 14 educational institutions under this one shade.

St.Michael College of Engineering and Technology was established in the year 1998 by the Trust. It was started by our founder chairman KalviRathna Late Ln. Dr. V.Michael , B.E., M.I.S.T.E.,Ph.D (USA).It is approved by AICTE, New Delhi and is affiliated to Anna University, Chennai. This is a Christian minority institution. It is the First Engineering institution under St.Michael Educational and Charitable Trust. It was started with 3 UG courses and now the college off ers 6 UG courses 5 PG courses.

Ln. Dr. M.StalinArockiaraj has taken charge as chairman in the year 2006 succeeding his father. He has been the cause of revolutionary changes in the look and feel of the college and in improving the infrastructure of college at par with international standards

ABOUT PRINCIPAL

Dr. P. Nelson Raja, M.E., P.hd

A leader is one who knows the way, goes the way, and shows the way. Dr. P. Nelson Raja, the prolific professional, has got 29 years of teaching experience in Engineering education. He started his career as a lecturer in RVS Engineering college at Dindugal and worked as the Head of the Mechanical Department and as the Vice Principal in Vellammal Engineering college at Madurai. Being an ISTE secretary, the man of thirst for knowledge has organized many faculty Development programmes. He has organized and attended many short term programmes sponsored by AICTE, presented many National and international papers and guides the research scholars. He had been a coordinator for a week long Nuclear Festival sponsored by IGCAR, Kalpakam during 2009. He has motivated the students to organize activities through Training and Placement cell and Entrepreneurs cell. He has organized many motivational programmes for staff and students. He walks towards the progress of the institution and guides the staff in accomplishing the vision of being a centre for technical excellence and academic exuberance. In all his activities he kindles the curiosity of the students to achieve more by their smart work.

>> Our CEO Mam, Dr.J.Bridget Nirmala, HOD of Civil Department, Dr.M.Vijayalakshmi and Dr. G.Sasi of ECE Department have obtained Ph.D. degrees from Anna University.

>> 5 professors of our college have obtained Ph.D. degree. 1 professor from Civil department has submitted her Ph.D. thesis. 16 professors are doing their Ph.D.

>> The research works of our staff members have been published in 18 International Journals during this academic year(2015-2016). So far, the research works of our staff members have been published in 74 International Journals.

>> Our staff members have presented papers in 141 International Conferences.

>> Our students have presented papers in 164 National Conferences, so far.

>> We are going to organize an International Conference on ‘Advancements of Optimization Techniques in Engineering Applications’ (ICAOTEA 2016) in the month of April 2016.

>> 10 Minor research proposals have been sent to UGC, Hyderabad, for a grant of Rs.32.5 lakhs( Rupees Thirty two lakhs and fifty thousand only).

>> 4 Major research proposals have been sent to UGC, New Delhi, for a grant of Rs.72 lakhs( Rupees Seventy two lakhs only).

>> Department of Civil Engineering has received Rs.20,000/ (Rupees Twenty thousand only) from Institute of Engineers,India, to conduct a National seminar.

>> One proposal has been sent to CSIR, New Delhi, for a grant of Rs.1,00,000/ (Rupees One lakh only) by the EEE department to organize a National seminar.

>> 2 proposals have been sent to Tamilnadu State Council for Science & Technology for a grant of Rs.50,000/ (Rupees Fifty thousand only) to organize a National Seminar ‘Recent Trends in Medical Image Processing’ by ECE department and ‘Science Awareness Program’ for school teachers by S&H DEPARTMENT.

>> Dr.M.Subramanian, Dean(Research), has been approved as the Research supervisor by Anna University to guide Ph.D., scholars in Physics.

>> We have planned to upgrade the Department of Mechanical Engineering and the Department of Physics as Research centres.

>> Our college is functioning with great ideas to get NAAC grade in 2017.

>> Proposals are sent to AICTE to get the funds for the Innovative projects done by our Automobile and Civil students.

ACTIVITIES>> Various social awareness programs were conducyed by our college. A few to look at are

l ‘Helmet Awareness Rally’ was organized on 23.07.2015.

l ‘Eye and General Health check up programme’ was organized in Kiladary village on 04.09.2015.

l A dinner was organized for the blind people and a high flame gas stove wes donated to the Blind home’AGAVIZHI’ on 11.02.2016.

l ‘Voter Awareness Rally’ was organized on 27.02.2016.

l 7 days NSS camp was organized in Chellappanendal from 17th March 2016 to 23rd March 2016.
