D&D Monarch Sheet Metal, Inc. is a metal roofing and sheet metal contractor based in Colorado. D&D gained a competitive edge in the market in 1985 when it became a Berridge Licensee by purchasing a Model SS-14 Portable Roll Former. When the metal construction industry was still in its infancy, D&D realized the opportunities available in the architectural metal panels industry and the cost savings of job-site roll forming.

Like D&D, H+L Architecture has a rich history and outstanding rapport with the Rocky Mountain community. With repeat healthcare clients for more than 35 years, 20 college/university clients in Colorado, and designing technology/science facilities for some of the biggest names in Corporate America, H+L partners, principals, and associates have, as the company’s slogan goes, shaped spaces and shaped lives.

Licensee D&D Monarch Sheet Metal and architecture firm H+L Architecture recognized long ago the benefits of metal roofing and siding and the diverse looks available with numerous types of panels. As a result, these companies have remained at the forefront of green, sustainable design and construction for decades.

Monarch Sheet Metal was established in 1903 as an HVAC company in Denver, Colorado. In 1981, the company expanded its scope of work when it started to install roofing products. Monarch was quick to realize the rapid growth in the architectural metal panels industry and also the advantages and cost savings of job-site roll forming. In 1985, they became a Berridge Licensee by purchasing a model SS-14 portable roll former to form continuous-length, straight and curved standing seam roof panels. As the architectural metal products industry continued to grow and mature, it was obvious they needed a stronger position with the general contracting market. This lead to a partnership with D&D Roofing and the ability to provide all inclusive bids. By 1997, D&D Monarch Sheet Metal, Inc. was established.

Not just another roofing company, D&D Monarch specializes in architectural sheet metal craftsmanship, custom fabrication, and quality installation. Their scope of work is not limited to metal roofing. D&D Monarch Sheet Metal and sister-company D&D Roofing are involved with all facets of the architectural products industry including: architectural sheet metal, metal wall panels, custom panel design, ACM fabrication, shingles and tile, built-up, single-ply membranes, modified bitumen, and many more.

    SHEET METAL, INC.

  • Today, the company has grown to approximately 60 full-time employees with 40 sheet metal field professionals, 5 sheet metal shop craftsmen, a 5-member sales team, and an office staff of 10. Their fleet of installation vehicles numbers 14, and their full-service sheet metal division is equipped with various roll formers, an ACM router, computerized breaks, shears, lifts, and cranes, enabling D&D Monarch Sheet Metal to tackle any project with the utmost quality and professionalism.

At the age of 15, then toilet and floor cleaner Ty Mattern was an employee of Monarch Sheet Metal responsible for most odd jobs no one wanted to do. His hard work, dedication and loyalty led to his continual advancement through the company from toilet and floor cleaner to shop helper, then installer to office worker then estimator. In 1995, Ty bought into the company and is now the president. His leadership style is governed by his philosophy of team work and that everyone in the company serves a vital role to the overall success of the company, whether it’s cleaning toilets, installation or sales. Not one for recognition and praise, Ty is just one piece of what makes D&D Monarch Sheet Metal what it is today and attributes much of the company’s success to the team that surrounds him.

Sheet Metal Shop Personnel (L-R): Jason Taylor, Kevin Webb, Joe Rivers, Miguel Loya-Rios, Ralph King, Shop Supervisor.

The Golden Scrubber plaque serves as a reminder for D&D Monarch Sheet Metal President, Ty Mattern as to how hard work and dedication can lead to success. It was awarded to him by company employees, or as Ty prefers, his teammates.

Berridge is by far the most dependable, competitive and quality-oriented, single-source manufacturer in the market today!

  • At H+L Architecture, nature and nurture are more than opposing sides of an argument; they coexist at the heart of every one of our projects. As the Rocky Mountain region’s leading expert in the design and construction of education environments, we have devoted nearly half a century to crafting high style, high functioning spaces that help people learn, teach and inspire. Founded in 1963, H+L Architecture offices in Denver and Colorado Springs are comprised of over 80 architects, landscape architects, intern architects and interior designers. During that time, we’ve come to understand the nature of nurturing - and we have made it an integral part of the H+L experience every step of the way.

The educational planning effort was achieved concurrently with Erie High School’s design. H+L Architecture worked with the two Design Advisory Groups (DAG) to develop a program and educational layout that would best serve and inspire the students. During one of the DAG workshops the interdisciplinary “school within a school” philosophy and overall facility arrangement began to take shape.

The design of Mead High School was developed around the traditions and vernacular of the historically agrarian culture of the area. Contemporary abstractions of agricultural forms and elements are articulated in the creation of place. Local farms and buildings were the inspiration for the spirit of the school. Grain silos, barns, sheds, graineries, and the dynamic movement of railroad cars all took form in the various elements of the educational program. Colors, materials, and geometric patterns such as metal panels, crop circles, field lines, and seasonal changes – which are clearly seen in the area – were inspirations to tie the design back to its surroundings. Community involvement and collaboration were at the heart of the design effort, and Mead High School is a testament to local pride, ownership, and social responsibility.
