15 Men on a Dead Man’s ChestCollection 15 is featuring the sea shanty from Robert Louis Stevenson’s much loved Treasure Island as it’s

theme for this year. The name Dead Man’s Chest was found by Stevenson in a book by Charles Kingsley

called ‘At last, a Christmas in the West Indies’ (1871). A shanty of 6 verses, the chorus is:

Fifteen men on a dead man’s chest -

- Yo ho ho and a bottle of rum!

Drink and the devil had done for the rest -

- Yo ho ho and a bottle of rum!

Treasure Island is compulsory reading for all youngsters with an interest in the sea. First published as a book

in 1883, it is the compelling tale of pirates and buried treasure.

As with all really good stories, the good characters stand for thrift, truthfulness and discipline. However

as with all proper baddies, the pirates suffer from dishonesty, drunkenness, impiety and lack of foresight.

Of course the good characters collect the treasure and live happily ever after, whilst the pirates come to a

thoroughly sticky end.

We are looking forward to seeing you at Collection 15. We cannot promise to deliver on buried treasure but the 2009 Berthon Collection of brokerage yachts are of a great standard; and we hope that you will fi nd your next yacht amongst our hoard…

sailingyachts

CALI. Enchanting Crealock design from 2005, still with her first owner, conceived and built for serious cruising. Very sharp build quality, safe and secure seakeeping and wizard innards. Proper cruising yacht with all the modern bolt on widgets.

£235,000Pacific Seacraft 40’

AUSTRAL SUN. Funky Rob Humphreys design, hatched 2003 and little used through life. Most excellent drop keel gives her the possibility to puddle jump, but when in deep water mode, an ARC is more than on the cards. Good solid build from Blighty.

£249,000Southerly 135

SEVEN SEAS. Van de Stadt and Trintella in 1998, with build of the first quality, now irreplaceable following the demise of Trintella. Nice carbon twig, has done the world circuit and is inventoried to the gills – she has spares for her spares. Perfect for Owl and Pussycat stuff, compact enough for the less adventurous.

£280,000 + VATTrintella 46AC

SPIRIT OF FREYA. 2001 yacht that has been seriously under used through life. Virtually unmarked downstairs, easy sailing upstairs. Very selfish interior for 2 couples and build quality as Najad can. Her Judel Vrolijk lines make sailing her thoroughly worthwhile.

Underpriced at £299,950Najad 460

SOLFERINO. Good looking German Frers in claret. From 1997, fleet of foot with a slippery hull shape and splendid accommodation for 6. Jolly nice spec, polished through life with copious amounts of wallet emptying as required.

£230,000Hylas 46’

HIGHLAND FANCY. From 1992, to inimitable lines by Chuck Paine and built just beautifully – she is the real deal. Perfect for bluewater, already has sundry adventures beneath her keel, with a little new owner’s spit and polish, she’s ready for some more of the same.

£210,000Bowman 48AC

KEALOHA OF WHITBY. Rugged, dependable Holman & Pye Oyster that’s seriously fab for 7 Seas duties and which has been substantially refitted by this owner, including decks, rig and widgets. Oyster 68’

WATERWITCH. Most excellent Robert Harris design with push button everything from 1990. Hugely rewidgeted in this ownership and set up for a very modest crew; her voluminous innards have space enough for a small army. Here at Collection 15 from the Med to jolly well be sold. Massive price tumble.

£250,000 + VATTayana 65’

SHAKURA. Sharp crustacean from 2003 with MkII layout and Millennium Maple interior – Oyster buffs will know all about this. £475,000Oyster 49/07

SASKIA. Fab Frers design from 1995, nautical makeover for the 2008 ARC – she’s been there, done all that, t-shirts have been bought. Here from substantially sunnier climes to be with us at Collection 15, and you can ready her for her next adventure.

BABOUJAI. Massively attractive sailboat from 2005, that is virtually unmarked, her owners are a tad fussier than we have seen before. Fab centreboard arrangement so your feet don’t get wet, all the widgets and ready to roll.

£220,000Feeling 44

MISS ELLE. Very classic Holman & Pye good looks from 1994, that is just the job for short handling, planet circumnavigating or roaming off to Newton Creek. Lots of nice updates, famously upper class heritage and ready to roll.

£74,950Rustler 36’

2007 Scandinavian sailing yacht, that has acquired something of a cult status. These yachts are rarely in brokerage captivity and never remain on the shelf for long. Perfect for absolutely anything nautical.

POAMalo 37’

sailingyachts

SHAMBHALA. Unmistakable lines from Peter Brett, with unbreakable tin hull from 1994. Moderate draft, uber splendid decksaloon and the best owner’s cabin we have seen on a yacht of this style. Perfect for serious parties, powerful rig plan, magic carpet yacht for a modest wedge.

£165,00060’ Aluminium Cutter

NORDLYS. Unmistakable, head turning S&S good looks, from 1980 and totally, that is – totally – sorted for bluewater. She and her owners have recently completed leisurely cruise around the planet, she’s now ready to go again. Nice non woody decks, and comes with the Nautor pedigree too.

£175,000Swan 47’

£149,950Bowman 40’

NEREUS. Unbreakable metal yacht built as only really Nordia can. From 1980, she has been enthusiastically sailed and has an astonishing number of miles beneath her keel, and the potential to do very many more. Requires a fistful of $s to make her sparkle seriously.

£119,000Nordia 57’

£160,000Nauticat 521

ANDROMEDA II. Very clever cruising yacht from Bill Dixon. From 1994, she is one of the last of her breed and has been thoughtfully updated in this ownership. Whilst there are 44’s available in brokerage captivity, we’re inclined to think that she is the sharpest and smartest of her ilk.

ACAWL. Charming and iconic proper yacht as Sadlers could from 1988. She has been looked after by the Berthon – think of them as rather superior personal trainers for yachts – the fitness programme includes a nice new engine in 2007 and the list is long.

£42,500Sadler 34’

Immaculate example of this great Ostmann/Norlin design with wing keel and all the requisite kit and caboodle. From 2003, she is with her first owner whose enthusiasm for this great sailing yacht has sadly been tempered by his ability to find the time to take her yachting.

£325,000Sweden Yachts 42’

GULF PEARL. Massively clever deck saloon cruising yacht as Bill Dixon can. From 1992, the owner’s cheque writing hand has been busy with lots of nice reworks and now you get the fun. Perfect for our very indifferent summers here in Blighty.

£55,000Moody 33’ Eclipse MkII

PEPPER OF NIIHAU. Awesome Holland design from 1988, we know her well. Totally set up for shorthanded sailing in the utmost comfort. Much loved companion, sadly this sailor has hung up his seaboots, we seek another to keep up the good work.

£84,500Feeling 1350
