Here are the latest products in beauty, books, and technology that make great gifts. Beauty In most cases buying Christmas gifts regarding beauty can be hard because it is either too expensive (and as a teenager who is either unemployed or working a minimum wage: every- thing is expensive), or too difficult to figure out because of allergies, matching skin tones, and personal choice. Most beauty subscriptions are customizable, so they are suited specifical- ly for the subscriber’s needs. (but pretty universal) habits, get them a keyboard cover. Crumbs beneath your keys not only make them annoyingly hard to press, but they can be responsible for future damage. Besides, your keyboard can potentially build up a plethora of germs growing on it because it comes in contact with so many things. This is a good gift for a messy friend or any laptop user, and very practical too!

Society6 iPhone CasesSociety6 is popular for their unique artwork, as specially created by indepen-dent artists, which the website uses the art to make everything from laptop to iPhone cases. Treat your loved ones’ phones and laptops to a new dress and reliable protectant.

Lastly, if none of these ideas sounds like they'll work, just save yourself some time and buy a gift card. Hopefully they'll be able to find something they'd like to purchase and they won’t find themselves lamenting over your inevitable last minute decision making.

High school students often complain of not having a job or volunteer opportunities.

Many just give up and expect jobs to pop up right in front of them. Finding a good

opportunity could be easy, or not so easy. Sometimes it is as simple as asking around

and talking to the right person. However, others may have been looking for what it

seems like forever. Smoke Signals wants to help out and share what we know, by

posting some local job opportunities.

ALUMNI CornerJOBS

Cause you gotta go to workby Maya Jones

ROB GLEMSERIn August of 2015, Glemser left Williamstown for New York City. He was a student at the Pratt Institute studying photography. In August 2016, he launched Godspeeds first collection of crew necks and hoodies, from his house in Williamstown.

“I ended up leaving art school in New York after the first semester due to the expensive cost and stuff honestly. It was a very long and rough year, filled with plenty of ups and downs. I was shooting weddings (photography) when I had the chance, which wasn't very often, and basically just started working at any job that was put in front of me.” Glemser’s ultimate goal is still to return to New York, and Godspeed was brought to fruition partially due to this desire. He cites the city as an outside force that has influenced almost every aspect of his life, from dress to musical taste, stemming from a time before he even lived there. Yet, as much as New York has molded Glemser, Williamstown is still his hometown.

“I usually don't give up too easily but if the love wasn't there from other people (especially from Williamstown and our surrounding area) after all of the hard

work and time I spent, I may not even have grown such a love for something I was just giving a try”, he says when speaking on the influence that hometown love has played in growing his brand.

ON GODSPEEDGodspeed is an antique expression of good wishes to a person starting a journey, and fittingly it’s the name of what is a personal journey for Rob: starting his own clothing brand and building a platform for himself. He credits the track “Perfect Circle/God-speed” off of Mac Miller’s GO:OD AM for the initial inspiration behind the name. The basis of all of Godspeeds designs are rooted in actual substance besides aesthetic. In every design, Glemser pays homage to his childhood and future dreams. When looking at the most recent drop on www.robglemser.com, these tributes are evident. The “Doom” longsleeve spells out “Godspeed” and “Never Gonna Die” in an easily recognizable font for all the fans of the popular 2000s videogame said to be the father of Halo and Call of Duty. The “Wheels” short sleeve features a design clearly derived from the familiar Hot Wheels logo.

ON WHSIt’s obvious that Glemser isn’t leaving behind his past in launching Godspeed, and I asked him to reflect on his high school years and the time he spent at WHS for this article. While there were great moments for him here (the 100th day of school and graduation being standout times), ultimately he laments on the lack of support for the arts at the high school.

“Mr. DeAngelis, Mr. Garrick, Mr.Albert, and Ms. Ferranto did more than play their part as teachers and influences. I just wish that the artists and those 3 teachers got more recognition. They are the best teachers in the school as far as I’m concerned.”

To culminate this interview, here’s some sincere advice from Glemser for everyone reading this article:“Take every opportunity that presents itself because you never know what the outcome will be and most importantly to follow your own dreams and your own heart. (never anyone else's...) Also, read Dale Carnegie’s How to Win Friends and Influence People.”

by Grace ChenIn the past couple of

months in school, you may have noticed a huge quantity of baby

pink hoodies in the hallways at Williamstown High School. For November’s alumni corner, Smoke

Signals interviews Rob Glemser, the 2015 graduate behind these hoodies, a 19 year old trying to start his own brand Godspeed.

The Freemasons are a group of men who come together for brotherhood and fellowship, but also partake in secret rituals. Some of these rituals are quite strange, with blindfolding, reciting many lines of Masonic texts, and there have even be reports of holding one’s breath underwater.

I found out about the organization when I was invited to join their youth branch, DeMolay. There are many branches of Freemasonry, with specific traditions that can appeal to certain people. Some of the most famous figures in history have been Masons, including nine signers of the Declaration of Indepen-dence, George Washington, Buzz Aldrin, and even Shaquille O’Neal have been members of their ranks.

While they do enormous amounts of charity work, scandals and conspiracies still linger about the fraternal order. Masonic code has often been used in the mafia, the highest level Masons have been accused of devil worship, and those who have left the masons have faced death threats and shunning. Reports of murder, sexual assault, and fraud have been levied against certain Masonic branches!

Surprisingly enough, the Freemasons even have a lodge, or meeting house, in Williamstown! I was curious about this group, because while

they were welcoming in inviting me, there seemed to be something quite off about them. I decided to interview local Freemasons about the organization, and tried to dig deeper into their organization.

Frank Scalia, Age: 54Q: Where do you go for your Freemason meetings?A: While I am a member of the Williamstown Lodge #166, I attend the Grand Lodge of Philadelphia every once in awhile.Q: How were you brought into the fraternity?A: I heard from a good friend of mine that he was joining a charitable group, and after conducting research, I decided the group was for me.Q: Masons have been associated with some scandals, and are notorious for their secrecy. What do you have to say about this?A : I am not going to talk about those scandals, because they serve no purpose. They are not relevant to the Masonic Order.

Adewale Ojo, Age: 35Q : You are a younger man by Freemason standards. How come you were drawn to the Masons, which tend to have an age problem?A: After watching the Da Vinci Code almost ten years ago with my friends, I looked into the Freemasons because they were mentioned in the movie. I then peti-

tioned to join my local lodge in Mantua.Q: What kinds of charitable works do the Masons perform?A: A lot! Last year, we held many fundraisers for local and national charities, including Shriner’s Hospital for Children, which is sponsored by the Shriners, who are Freemasons. Any-where in our immediate community is also a target for service.Q: Would you like to address the scandals about the Freemasons?A: Many Masons shy away from ques-tions like that, but believe me, Masons are men of integrity and honor. Actions such as organized crime or satanic rituals do not take place in our lodges.

Logan Wood Age: 40Q: How long have you been with the Freemasons?A: I have been a member of their youth branch, DeMolay, in Vineland since I was 13, so I have been associated with Freemasonry for over two decades now.Q: Do you have any recommendations for those who wish to become Freemasons?A: To be one, ask one. Find Masons you know, or look out for the square and compass symbol of the Freemasons. If you are under 18, you should visit the DeMolay International website.

CLUBS what's goin on?

Two WHS DECA Students, Stephanie Boateng and Samantha Barry, recently ran two fundraisers on November 30th and December 2nd. They are doing a Public Relations Project for DECA and their campaign is homelessness in Gloucester County. For the past month, the students have been using Twitter in order raise awareness for the homeless using polls and #FactFridays. On November 30th, they held a Chick-Fil-A night, where they were able to collect $208.19 for the homeless. Then, on Friday Decem-ber 2nd, they held a Polar Express Night at the high school, where kids ages 5-11 came to eat cookies, hot chocolate, do some crafts, and watch the Polar Express. The entry fee for participating families was to bring a donation of items like toothpaste, shampoo, conditioner, etc. Together, Stephanie and Samantha collected over 300 items by the end of the night! All of the cookies and hot choc-olate were paid for by sponsors such as Rockin’ Jump, Nick’s Pizza, the Philadelphia Eagles, Sam’s Club, and Stephanie’s family. It was fun for all and there were a lot of positive com-ments from the parents. It’s so great to see so many people coming together to support a worthy cause!

fashionVELVETWinter is the time of year for layering and adding more depth to an outfit. Textures and new materials make winter the perfect time to “spice” up your style.

One of the most popular materials for the winter is velvet. Whether it be velvet boots, bags, belts, or jackets, you can add some serious flare to your look. Some of the most popular stores such as H&M, and Forever 21 carry velvet in every style. We’ve seen celebrities such as Kim Kardashian, and Justin Bieber sporting velvet on the red carpet recently. Be one of the first people in Williamstown High to wear velvet and be a trend setter! Send us your favorite velvet outfits and inspiration!

television social mediaEven if you are not a TV fanatic, chances are you have a favorite TV show. It may be a Golden Age classic like I Love Lucy, a Sci-Fi show like Stranger Things or The Flash, or a drama like Scandal, or anything that has ever been even looked at by Shonda Rhimes! 2016 has either introduced us to new shows that will make us laugh and/or cry, or continued to unleash shows that put us on emotional roller coasters that may give us some seriously painful whiplash, and leave us on the edge of our seats.

THIS IS US This Is Us is one of the first shows in quite some time that follows a very original storyline. It tells the story of three very different people who share the same birthday, and how it connects them, and the separate story of a young couple’s sweet but depressing love story. Even if you are someone who typically does not care for TV shows that border the “Lifetime movie that doesn’t have a horrific ending” level of sweetness, you should watch it only because it has Mandy Moore, the voice of Rapunzel from Tangled, as a main character. This Is Us airs Tuesdays at 9 on NBC.

PITCH Pitch tells the story of history that has had yet to be written. Inspired by the story of Mone Davis and who she could possibly grow up to be, Pitch’s plot revolves around Ginny Baker (Kylie Bunbury), the first female major league baseball player in history. While the show addresses important issues in our society like rape culture, (Ex. the Brock Turner case) or mental health of our celebrities and role models, it also focuses on the politics that occur in the locker rooms and press conferences. From what I have been told by people who actually follow sports, it does a good job. Pitch airs Thursdays at 9 on Fox.

TEEN WOLF While Teen Wolf was not introduced this year, it gave its audience the premiere to its final season last month. The show is based upon a very corny 1980s movie starring Michael J. Fox (Marty McFly in Back to the Future), but is geared towards those who enjoy shows based on the super-natural and magic like The Vampire Diaries or Supernatural. Teen Wolf airs at 9 on Thursdays on MTV.

HONORABLE MENTIONS Mr Robot, Insecure, The Get Down

TRENDING SOCIAL MEDIA ACCOUNTS OF 2016The Internet is what you make of it. For some, it may be a place of “TBHs” (that are never honest) and petty gossip, while for others it may be a place of immersion in current world affairs and memes. The myriad of content offered by the Internet can be a bit overwhelming to navigate--no matter how tech-savvy we may think ourselves to be. The content that we constantly view on social media may be a vital contribution to our ideas and perceptions of both ourselves and the world. The people and ideas that you surround yourself with should reflect the person you aspire to be, so why not start by fixing your social media feed to motivate the person that you want to become? Below, I have wound up my top five, must-follow social media accounts as compiled from 2016. If you like these users, be sure to follow them. Spruce up your daily feed with intriguing poems, hilarious memes and domestic and worldwide news.

Joanne the Scammer (@jonannethescammer on Instagram) Branden Miller, better known as Joanne the Scammer, has compiled a bulk of the content in my photo album. Joanne’s snarky comments make for handy comebacks if you’re anything like me and you cannot think of a comeback until a month after the situation calls for it.

Deray (@deray on Twitter) An active voice on current socio-political issues, Deray McKesson uses his social platform to educate those in question and in curiosity in the current state of worldly and domestic affairs in today’s world. He is specifically concerned with the welfare of underrepresented, marginalized American and non-American peoples.

Rupi Kaur (@rupikaur_ on Instagram) This poet got her start as a poet on social media, and has since then become the author of her first published book Milk and Honey. If you have read and enjoyed the book, you are certain to enjoy her daily posts of poems. If you haven’t read the book, still follow her on Instagram and then read Milk and Honey.

Pokémon Sun & Moon is the newest addition to the famous RPG series, available for 3DS

and 2DS consoles. The twin games were released on November 18th worldwide.

The current generation, Generation VII, takes place in the Alola region. In this

region, there are three starter Pokémon you can choose from to be your first Pokémon for

your new adventure! My personal favorite is Litten since I really admire

fire-type Pokémon.

The twin games are some of the most anticipated games to come out to date. This summer, we saw Pokemon GO explode as people across the world would play, pumping excitement into the newest chapter in the Pokemon saga. People of all ages are excited to play, and anxiously joyful to hear more and more news as soon as the release date approached. I have also came across a good friend of mine that would also like to give her opinion on the game. She said,

“I haven’t got the chance to buy the game itself yet, but to me, it looks like a lot of fun. The characters and the new Pokémon look very cool. I will definitely get this game soon!”
