HEALING SHINGLES WITH ESSENTIAL OILS

===================================== One of my famous personal essential oil testimonies is how I got rid of my shingles using ravensara essential oil. Shingles, aka Herpes Zoster, is a severe and short lived viral infection caused by the same virus that causes chicken pox. It's an infection of the nervous system that affects certain areas of the skin. Shingles originates from having chicken pox as a child. During a childhood bout of chicken pox, not all of the viral organisms are destroyed. They hang out and stay quiet - "dormant" - in the nerves in the skin for many years. When there is severe emotional stress, severe illness, or things that severely affect the immune system, these "dormant" critters wake up and get active again, and cause an infection. The pain is severe and sometimes long lived, and the medical approach is anti-viral medications, steroids, pain meds, and antibiotics for potential skin infection - and not everyone wants to take this approach (although if the outbreak is near the eyes you should definitely seek medical attention!) So once again we say Thank God for the oils! I had a shingles outbreak a few years ago when my mother, who had been diagnosed with kidney cancer, had surgery to have her kidney removed. I was so stressed out that I wasn't paying attention to my body. It's interesting how that happens, isn't it? Our bodies have to tell us the degree of how much stress we are under if we're not paying attention. When I found out I had shingles I ran to my two favorite resource books - the Essential Desk Reference and The Alternative Medicine Definitive Guide by the Burton Goldberg Group. Both of these books mentioned ravensara - which I had in my oil collection and loved for sinus issues. I immediately took some internally (I had taken ravensara internally before for bronchitis so I was comfortable taking it internally again). I put 7 drops in an empty gel cap and I took one capsule in the morning and one at night. Within one day my pain and symptoms went away. I decided to keep myself on this regime for 21 days because that is the normal life span of a virus. My symptoms stayed away for the whole time except for one day I did forget to take my dose.

I said to myself "oh, I probably don't have shingles - I don't have symptoms so I'll stop taking the capsules." Well, within one day the symptoms came back, so I resumed to completion. Now not everyone will feel comfortable taking oils internally, so here are ways you can use essential oils topically for the discomfort of shingles:

Blend together: -- 10 drops sandalwood -- 5 drops blue cypress -- 4 drops peppermint -- 2 drops ravensara

Dilute 50:50 with massage oil and apply 6 - 10 drops on the affected area, back of neck, and down the spine 1 - 3 times daily. (From Essential Desk Reference) ----- Aromatherapy expert, and author of "Medical Aromatherapy" Dr. Kurt Schnaubelt, says "Our greatest success in the treatment of shingles is by applying a blend of 50% ravensara and 50% calophyllum inophyllum (like St. John's Wort HUhttp://snipurl.com/tamanu_oilUH ). Drastic improvements and complete remissions occur within seven days." ----- A case study was done of six hospice patients with shingles. I was found that three essential oils combined together and placed in distilled water and used as a spritz improved the symptoms of the shingles.

The three oils used were: --ravensara --bergamot --niaouli

This study was run by aromatherapist Noel Gilligan. Mr. Gilligan reported that after 48 hours:

--there was a significant reduction in the pain from the shingles --scabbing and healing of the pustules took place and in one instance there was a disappearance of the pustules

ESSENTIAL OILS FOR THE SENSITIVE PERSON

======================================= When I first experienced therapeutic grade essential oils eleven years ago, I had this self-centered fleeting thought . . ."Oh my! These were made for me!" Until then I was somewhat "unimpressed" with my experiences of "aromatherapy". I studied a few "aromatherapy" courses as part of my holistic nursing education and, yes, I had my little bottle of lavender in my medicine cabinet. Other than sprinkling it on my pillow or dripping it into my bathtub, I never learned much else to do with lavender, and I was warned not to put it on my body without diluting it with four times the amount of massage oil…Kind of scared me. But I didn't want to put it on my body. It smelled somewhat perfumey and since I am environmentally and energetically sensitive, the last thing I wanted to do was to put a substance on my body that has synthetic chemicals in it, even if it did have a pleasant scent. It wasn't until I learned about "therapeutic grade essential oils" when I was introduced to Young Living that I was able to have a true appreciation for what essential oils can do for us. After studying with Gary Young and learning that there are differing models and philosophies of use with essential oils, I became aware that in my prior education I had been oriented to "aromatherapy" under the English Model. The English Model often use perfume grade oils and they emphasize that all essential oils must be diluted before they are put on the body. And I agree with that - if you are using a perfume grade oil, you would want to dilute it to put it on the body - if you want to put it on the body at all…I don't. (It is important to note here that there are times when you would want to dilute a therapeutic grade oil as well, especially when you are using a hot oil.) I felt so much better knowing that there were significant differences in the quality and grades of essential oils! It cleared up much of my confusion. When I started to use "therapeutic grade oils" I had very positive experiences right away. I just felt better, had more clear thinking, could breathe better, and they didn't bother my sensitivities. So if you find yourself reading or hearing information about essential oils that is conflicting and contradictory, read about the different models of aromatherapy.

Here are a few great resources for you to learn more about the different models of "aromatherapy":

-- The Chemistry of Essential Oils Made Simple by David Stewart PhD - page 3 -- Healing Oils, Healing Hands by Linda L. Smith - pages 47 – 52

Personally, I embrace the French model which recognizes the use of essential oils for healing and medicinal purposes. This model dictates that the highest grade essential oils be used. It is why I choose to use the Young Living line of oils. It is also why I choose to use the words "therapeutic use of essential oils" instead of "aromatherapy" when I speak about my own personal use of essential oils. The sensitive person can benefit greatly from the therapeutic use of essential oils. Here are some reasons why:

--Some people are more sensitive than others because their bodies are burdened by toxins and heavy metals. Therapeutic oils detoxify and clean up their body burden in the body and help make them less sensitive to environmental toxins. --Sensitive people can often pick up subtle energies in their environment because they have a "high vibration". Therapeutic oils have high vibrations as well, so the sensitive person feels very comfortable using the oils. --Therapeutic oils can also protect the energy fields of sensitive people helping them to feel less vulnerable to their environment and other people. --Sensitive people can use help grounding, and many of the therapeutic grade oils are helpful in grounding (specifically Valor, and many of the evergreens).

HEALING PSORIASIS FROM THE INSIDE OUT

====================================== During the years of my practice in my Wellness Center, I received many patient referrals from Dr. John Pagano, the author of the book "Healing Psoriasis: The Natural Alternative". These patients were suffering severely from psoriasis. Many of them sought out Dr. Pagano's "alternative treatment" as a last effort because medical treatments had failed them. Dr. Pagano referred these patients to my center because we offered colon hydrotherapy, one of the holistic approaches to psoriasis that he recommended. Psoriasis along with eczema, are conditions where the body is toxic. Internal cleansing combined with a few other natural approaches can offer healing to those suffering from these uncomfortable and unsightly conditions. To understand this approach it is important to remember that the skin is an organ of elimination. When other eliminatory organs are over-taxed, especially in the intestinal system, the skin takes over their job. Many skin disturbances are the body's attempt to get rid of toxins. Foods are an extremely important factor with psoriasis. There are certain foods that contribute to flare ups, and there are certain foods that allow the healing. The more dealings I had with people with psoriasis and the more I learned about the foods they ate, the more convinced I became on how important nutrition is for the psoriatic (name for person living with psoriasis). This might sound kind of odd, but it is true…the actual skin lesions of these folks looked like the foods they binged on - the popular culprit – pizza or foods with lots of white baked flour and tomato (pasta). Bagels and cream cheese were also a common favorite. Besides the bright red "tomato" colored skin, some of these patients also had white crusty patches that resembled mold on cheese. This suggested to me internal fungus. I could tell by survey that cheeses, tomatoes, and white bread were the greatest offenders to these folks. I trained as a colon therapist and became certified under a few different programs. I did this to get the depth and breadth of this modality. The program and philosophy that I most embrace is the Cayce/Reilly approach to health. This is the same approach that is discussed in "Healing Psoriasis: The Natural Alternative". The suggested diet emphasizes eliminating the nightshade family plants for conditions such as psoriasis and arthritis. Psoriasis is often accompanied by arthritis (there is a strong connection between digestion and joints). The nightshade family plant foods are tomatoes, potatoes, peppers, and eggplants. Again, I found that the people with psoriasis that I treated had eaten these foods very frequently.

Here are some key factors and recommendations for the natural approach to healing psoriasis from the Cayce/Reilly approach to health and Dr. John Pagano's book "Healing Psoriasis: The Natural Alternative":

--Psoriasis is basically a toxemia with the cause being poor eliminations and a thinning of the intestinal wall --There is excessive acidity in the blood --Internal cleansing is recommended --Spinal adjustments from a chiropractor or an osteopath is recommended --Sources of irritation are commonly the duodenum, jejunum, and upper intestinal tract --Colonics or home enemas are recommended --Diet should be highly alkalinizing --Fish, fowl, and lamb are okay to eat --Drink 6 - 8 glasses of pure water daily --No alcohol

I would also add:

--Eliminate breads and baked goods --Eat lots of leafy green vegetables --Exercise to mobilize the lymph system which also helps to detoxify the body --Take digestive enzymes --Get fiber in the diet

There are always so many questions as to what essential oils can be helpful for psoriasis. It is very important to note that although there are essential oils that can help diminish the discomfort of the condition, no essential oil can help psoriasis completely if these other recommendations are not followed. Some recommended essential oils/products:

--Juvaflex over liver for liver cleansing --JuvaCleanse internally (start with one drop) --Rose Ointment topically --Lavender topically --LavaDerm (see below) --Cleansing Trio or Internal Cleansing products that contain therapeutic essential oils

CLEANSE WITHOUT FASTING

========================= (Video below - 1 min 49 sec)

Fasting is not for everyone who wants to cleanse, for a variety of reasons:

--They don't want to go through that 3 day funk --It's too difficult to run a family and cook for others --The initial low blood sugar crashes are too inconvenient --The readjustment in eliminations are too uncomfortable --They can't afford to lose stamina at work --There is no support system in place

This is not to say that fasting isn't beneficial, I think it's great and it has some awesome benefits for health and beauty. But I would rather eat and cleanse, than not eat and cleanse. I attended a two week intensive cleansing retreat last March in Southern California where we alternated raw foods for 4 days with 3 days of juicing fasting. I lost so much weight that I really didn't want to lose (10 pounds in the first 3 days) and when I got home I ended up eating more food than I normally eat, and gained all the weight back plus more. I think my body went into a starvation mode and my metabolism stepped down a few notches. So, from that experience I decided to delegate part of my daily intake to substances and foods that will continuously cleanse my body. Now, if I were to tell you there was something we could eat every day that will help take toxins out of your body, would you be interested in finding out what that was? First, let me describe to you its features:

--It was used by the Egyptians for cleansing --When we eat it, it doesn't get digested --It's not absorbed into the bloodstream --It absorbs water and swells up --It becomes like a gel that also absorbs toxins --It slows down absorption of sugar so it keeps blood sugar down --As it moves through your intestines, it 'scrubs' the walls of your intestinal tract --It makes you feel full so you can even lose weight --It also reduces cholesterol

What is it? Soluble fiber

Page 12: The Best of Home Spa Lady's Tips Articles Volume Ihomespalady.com/pdf/TipsBest-Vol.I.pdfMarilee Tolen’s Best of Home Spa Lady’s Tips Articles – Volume I Marilee Tolen tips@homespalady.com

What foods consist of soluble fiber? Oats and oat bran, nuts, barley, flax, oranges, apples, and carrots to name a few But one of the best things you can take as pure soluble fiber for the mere purpose of a good cleanse is psyllium. Psyllium is a fibrous seed and often made in the form of a powder for cleansing. Do you know that psyllium was used in ancient Egypt and was described in the Ebers Papyrus (medical documents of 1500 BC)? It was used for its laxative and anti-diarrheal properties.

What does that tell you? It tells you that it can have both effects, so therefore it is "balancing". Other early Old World uses of psyllium seeds were to treat sores of the mouth and throat, stop nosebleeds, treat complications of the liver, and help to fix loose teeth. Psyllium was administered to assuage complications from scurvy and worms. The plant itself is 'plantago' and other parts of the plant are known to be medicinal as well. Native Americans and Aztecs used plantago husks and leaves as cough remedies, for wounds, insect bites, and headaches. Where do we get psyllium? Many cleansing products on the market contain psyllium. One of the most popular products found on grocery store shelves is Metamucil - but that has other stuff in it including lots of sugar. Here are two sources for a more natural and healthy psyllium product:

--Trader Joes Store (if you are lucky enough to have one near you) has a product of pure psyllium call Secrets of the Psyllium. --Young Living has a product called ICP Multiple Fiber Beverage along with oat bran, aloe, flax and fennel, and some other things including essential oils that are good for the digestive system.

One very important thing to remember when you take psyllium:

Drink Water!

SIX FOODS THAT FLATTEN BELLIES

================================= Oh, c'mon…Are there really foods that flatten bellies? I don't blame you if you are asking that question, because it sounds preposterous! And even more ridiculous is what these foods are called: "Moo-Faas". Actually it is "MUFA" which is an acronym for "mono-unsaturated fatty acids". MUFAs are also known as the 'good fats'. Here are six MUFAs that flatten your belly:

Nuts and Seeds

o Almonds

o sunflower seeds

o macadamias

o pistachios

o walnuts

Oils

o Olive

o Flax

Avocado

o Florida avocado

o Hass avocado

Olives

o Black olives and black olive tapenade

o Green olives and green olive tapenade

Chocolate

o Dark or semisweet

Yogurt

A recent study in the International Journal of Obesity suggests that people who get calcium from yogurt rather than other dairy sources or supplements may lose more weight in the belly.

Learn more about the flat belly diet from Web MD: HUhttp://snipurl.com/flat_belly_foodsUH As ridiculous as this sounds to me, it makes perfect sense. Think about when you feel bloated or puffy after eating. Most likely the foods you ate contributed to that feeling and experience of bloating. Well, there are foods that do the opposite. These MUFA's are foods that help to decrease inflammation and improve digestion (just be careful of seeds and nuts if you are dealing with a digestive disorder called "diverticulitis"). It is also important here to mention that everyone needs good bacteria in the gut to help with proper digestive functioning which helps to keep bloating at bay. You can get good bacteria from foods like yogurt and kefir, but probiotics are the best way to "plant" these good bacteria in the gut. Other great supplements to use to help with the "belly flattening experience" are digestive enzymes. They help breakdown the foods that the body can't break down from regular digestion. Check out this one minute quick video: HUhttp://snipurl.com/video_digstv_nzymes UH

ENERGY TIPS FOR OVERWHELM

============================ You should see me right now… …I've got clothes all over the place because I'm still sorting through winter and summer stuff …suitcases I just pulled out of the garage that need to be wiped down (with Thieves!) because I'm on my way to a Young Living convention …piles of paperwork and bills on my desk to sort through before I go away …a fridge full of veggies half recently bought and half a week old that I have to sort through …a shopping list that goes on and on and the purchases must be made today… (I'm sure this is mild compared to many of your situations, but it's enough to put me into overwhelm!) It's overwhelm and it’s common. The scary thing is overwhelm is becoming our norm. It's like we've unconsciously re-calibrated our personal operating equipment to accept that this is a normal value and it is okay. Well, it's not normal. And it's not okay. Our health is at stake. People handle overwhelm differently. Some people get frantic and run around in circles trying to do everything at once and end up hardly getting anything done. Although this may look like high energy, it actually de-energizes and depletes the bodily system. Some people get a semi-paralysis where they can't move on what they want to do, and end up procrastinating or not doing anything at all. This too is very de-energizing. I can relate to both of these scenarios. After being so tired for so long of being de-energized from overwhelm, I came up with these "simple solutions for self-care at home" to deal with the overwhelm. They really work for me, and I hope they will work for you too:

Brain Dump

Do a brain dump on paper by making a list of everything that you need to do, prioritize it, and lay the list out in front of you on a clear surface in your office, den, kitchen, or where you mostly work on projects

Brown Rice --Okay, this might sound silly but it makes perfect sense to me and it works really well…and, if you are a "sensitive" like I am - to people, food, energy, etc, then I bet this will work for you. Brown rice is the

most balancing food there is. When we eat food that is balancing, then we become balanced. Make yourself some brown rice (high quality and organic if possible) and eat it as a snack or with a meal

Bancha Tea --Another balancing food to put in our body. This is also known as "twig tea" or "kukicha" tea. Great to have with your brown rice.

Think About What Excites You --We change our energy when we change our thoughts. Overwhelm always seems to be more bearable when we have something exciting to look forward to pull us through. Thinking about what excites you will "energize" you and your thoughts.

Ningxia Red Juice --This is the most incredible delicious nutritious high antioxidant juice - truly the best on the juice market. The wolfberries in this juice are from the Ningxia region in China - a very special place irrigated by the Yellow River - This place has better energy than any other place that grows wolfberries. But check it out for yourself! Start by comparing the label to other juice labels that have apple, pear, and grape juices in them as filler (cheap and high glycemic). Ningxia Red has pomegranate, apricot nectar, dark grapes with the skin, not to mention the essential oils and the delicious agave. Very LOW GLYCEMIC.

Valor on feet --This is powerful. Valor essential oil blend is extremely grounding, balancing, centering and brings you to the present moment. It's as simple as pouring a few drops out of the bottle onto your hands and rubbing it on the bottom of your feet. If you have never done this I say to you "don't take my word for this - try it yourself and you will see!"

Peace and Calming on wrists --Another little what I like to call magical technique to pull us out of overwhelm and allow us to calmly deal with what is presently at hand. This blend is a favorite for hyperactive children and anxious pets and those of us who take care of them!

Diffuse Christmas Spirit and Orange --I know, you are saying. . . it's not Christmas! it is summer! But yes, I diffuse Christmas Spirit all year long and it doesn't steal that holiday spirit away from the winter one bit! A fabulous combo is C.S. with orange essential oil.

HOW YOU FEEL AFTER YOUR MEAL

================================ Bloated?

Spacey?

Gassy?

Congested?

OR Energized, Charged, Positive, and Clear? Our digestive system affects our entire body and our life...because it affects the way we think! (for you Energy buffs out there. . .remember the 3rd chakra is the "mental" chakra. . .and it's connected with the stomach and other upper abdominal organs) Do you agree that we create our reality based on how we think and view things? That is how "The Secret" works, right? When we feel less than optimal from crappy food and digestive disorders, we are creating a less than optimal life…

…it's plain and simple. The foods we eat, AND what our body does with it, truly can affect our reality! (Sorry to disappoint you fans of "The Secret" who thought you could eat junk and have digestive upset and still have the "Law of Attraction" work for you!) (hmmm. . . I may take this concept and create "The Secret Diet"!) (…don't you dare steal my idea!) Okay, I am speaking/writing here as a health food junkie, a Certified Colon Hydrotherapist (formerly in practice), a Holistic Nurse, and a FIRM BELIEVER in digestive enzymes! On the Soap Box: "Even if you think your digestion is okay, it is highly likely that you still need some help.

We have an "enzyme bank" that runs out as we get older (thus the reason old folks need prunes). But this isn't just an old folk issue. Important enzymes are often missing in children - particularly "amylase". Gary Young spoke about this last week. He said that a main cause of allergies in children is related to the lack of enzymes, particularly "amylase" - it is so important for children to take digestive enzymes. Off the Soap Box: Here is the deal:

--I share this information with you

--I don't want you to take my word for it

--I want you to find out for yourself

--If you have the gassy-ness, bloating, etc., try these tips (below) and see for yourself I always say "the proof is in the pudding"! (make sure you take your digestive enzymes with that pudding!) Some people may say if you are eating correctly you may not need enzymes. And some people say otherwise. All of this nutrition stuff may get so confusing, so what should you do? Do what I do! Go by what feels right in your body. This "self-care" stuff is a real journey in getting to "know thyself"! Here are some tips that can help your digestive process and help to keep your mind clear…

--First and foremost - eat healthy whole foods in balanced proportions

--Added fiber if needed (soluble and insoluble)

--Cultured foods (as many as you can get in your diet)

--Digestive enzymes at every meal

MAKE YOUR SKIN SPA‐RKLE FOR THE FOURTH

========================================= Skin, hidden for months under winter clothing, officially becomes exposed on July 4th weekend. A great way to prepare the skin for this annual unveiling is with a body scrub. Body scrubs make your skin sparkly clean. They help exfoliate the dead skin cells and allow fresh new skin cells to surface. New skin cells have a vibrant glow compared to dead cells. There are tons of commercial scrubs available, but why bother to shop? It's so easy to whip up your own scrub from what's in your kitchen cabinets already. Here's an easy scrub to make:

--Olive Oil 1/2 cup --Fine Sea Salt 1/2 cup --Lavender Essential Oil 10 drops (or other of your favorite essential oil(s)

-Mix together, and place in clean dry jar. -Use this after you bathe or shower (but stay in tub/shower to rinse off). -Place small amount in your hand. -Gently scrub in circular motion on skin. -Scrub entire body. Be gentle on, or avoid, sensitive areas. -Be careful stepping out of tub/shower, it may be slippery from the oil. -Pat dry with bath towel.

DRINK WATER, LOVE IT, AND PRAY FOR IT TOO

========================================== Drinking water is one of the most important things we can do for our health. Most people are dehydrated and this shows in their appearance and in their general health. Lack of water can create many physical annoyances such as headaches, constipation, and even moodiness - as well as wrinkly skin. An excellent book to read about the importance of drinking water (and the many symptoms from lack of water you would never think about) is "Your Body's Many Cries for Water" by F. Batmanghelidj, MD. We need a certain amount of water every day for our bodies and our mind to function at an optimal level. We get a significant amount of water from foods we eat, like veggies and fruits, but here are the recommended amounts of water we should drink according to The Institute of Medicine:

--Men - 13 cups --Women - 9 cups

A more specific formula that I believe is better is half of your body's weight in ounces. The best way to be certain to drink plenty of water is to carry a bottle with you wherever you go, and sip it throughout the day. But you must be careful what type of container you drink out of! Many plastic water bottles leak plastics and other chemicals into the water and mimic estrogen in the body that can lead to cancer. A sensible alternative to carrying your water is glass – but it breaks too easily. The perfect answer is a stainless steel water bottle which you can carry everywhere and wash easily. These bottles come in various sizes and shapes, with different lids so you should find one to suit your needs. Look at HUhttp://snipurl.com/noplasticwaterbottle UH to see what is available. Learn About Emoto's Work: With water playing such an important role in our very existence, it is important that we look after this resource by fighting pollution and calling on governments to help prevent pollution and wastage. Water has a spiritual side as well, as anyone who has ever sat and stared over a body of water can testify.

Water calls to a spiritual side of our being. Dr Emoto has carried this theory forward in his research into energizing water with thoughts feelings, beliefs, and prayer. As a part of his Emoto Peace Project he recently held a ceremony at the largest freshwater lake in the world, Lake Baikai, to send love and gratitude throughout the world by way of the water. The choice of location was made in response to reports of pollution of this precious resource. NATURAL SOLUTIONS TO TMJ (JAW DISCOMFORT)

============================================= Temporomandibular joint disorders (TMJ disorders) can be very disabling for sufferers. The Temporomandibular joint is the one that joins your lower jaw to your skull, and can be felt if you press lightly just in front of your ear and move your jaw. This 'jaw joint' is one of the ones we use most often during the day, every time we talk, bite, chew or yawn. It is a complex set up of bones, muscles and tendons and any one of these parts can become inflamed and sore. Many things can lead to TMJ disorders, but the most common are:

--Dental problems and misalignment of teeth. This can be caused by TMJ or lead to TMJ as sufferers chew on one side of their mouth. --Teeth grinding or clenching can lead to TMJ disorder by wearing the cartilage of the joint. This behavior often occurs during sleep and the sufferer is unaware they are doing it until they are told, but they wake up every morning with a stiff or painful jaw. --A history of a facial injury. Fractured jaws, or other facial bones, can lead to TMJ disorder. --Chewing gum or nail biting. This is an overuse issue. --Stress, because it can lead to jaw clenching or teeth grinding. --Occupational issues, such as holding a telephone to your ear with your shoulder whilst talking.

The most common symptoms are:

--Pain. About eighty percent of sufferers will have headaches and/or facial pain. This pain is worse when opening or closing the jaw. --Ear pain occurs in about half of all patients, often leading to unnecessary antibiotic treatment for ear infection. --Sounds. Patients are often aware of grinding and/or clicking noises when they move their jaws. --Other ear symptoms, such as feelings of "fullness", dizziness, tinnitus and muffled hearing. This can lead to misdiagnosis as ear infection.

Some natural healing options:

--Rest the jaw. This can mean eating only a soft diet and trying to reverse such behaviors as teeth grinding and clenching. --Heat or cold packs. Cold packs are best at the start of an attack as they stop blood flow to the area and prevent inflammation. Once it has developed, heat packs work better as they relax the muscles. --Pain relief with natural anti-inflammatories like MSM (Young Living's Sulfurzyme is an excellent MSM product), essential fatty acids like fish oils and flax. --Essential oils can give good relief (of course the therapeutic grade oils, not perfume grade oils).

REPAIRING SHATTERED ENERGY

================================= Forgive me football fans. . . . This past Sunday I went to the opening game of the Eagles here in Philadelphia (I'm still singing "Fly Eagles Fly" in my head), and it literally blew me away. I thought I knew what I was getting into because I see the games on TV once in awhile. It always looks like everyone's having fun, cheering and all. I'm not really a football fan but I went because I thought it would be a great experience and something very different for me. Little did I know I would be watching the game with my fingers in my ears and my head between my knees (thank goodness for my yoga practice!). The opening ceremonies touched my heart with the American flag being spread out across the field during the National Anthem - that was really nice. But when the four fighter jets ceremonially flew overhead at lightning speed, I had a "Hit the Deck!" reaction and in nanoseconds created an energetic foxhole and dived right in (my Healing Science training). Unfortunately it wasn't effective. The sound explosion got me! I felt completely blown apart (and then all I could think of was our guys and gals in the military who experience this for real, and feeling tremendously compassionate and gratefulness to them). At first I thought it was just me, but when the big burly footbally guys with green bald heads sitting in front of me started to freak out, I knew that this was no small thing. If these guys were startled, stunned, and shattered (and they had tough, dense, energy fields) well then my experience of my (higher frequency) energy system feeling blown apart was not farfetched. And that wasn't the only shattering experience! There were fireworks galore at the end of the opening ceremony, and we were sitting right near where they were being set off. Then, every time there was a touchdown - and the Eagles scored big that day (woo-hoo Philly!) - they would shoot off a fireworks display! Well, I don't do fireworks. Never did. Fireworks are actually painful to me.

Page 26: The Best of Home Spa Lady's Tips Articles Volume Ihomespalady.com/pdf/TipsBest-Vol.I.pdfMarilee Tolen’s Best of Home Spa Lady’s Tips Articles – Volume I Marilee Tolen tips@homespalady.com

After the opening and about 2 touchdowns (which was probably already about $100,000 - $200,000 worth of "entertainment" in fireworks and fighter jets) I had my little routine down. Every time the fireworks would go off I would hold my ears until my forefingers met in the middle of my brain, scream at the top of my lungs (which just blended in with all the other screams), and as everyone jumped up to cheer, I did the opposite. I slid back in my stadium chair until my head was on my seat and my legs and feet flailing up next to everyone's arms and hands - it was funny how no one noticed except for my family members. My brother and sister-in-law, who took me, didn't know whether to laugh hysterically or profusely apologize. We all ended up laughing until we just about pee-d ourselves. But when I went home I could tell my energy field was shattered. I was exhausted, leaking energy, and felt very "out of sorts". Why am I telling you this? Because there are many things that "shatter" our energy fields and so often people don't have a clue. They know they don't feel right, or they are tired or dizzy or suddenly hypersensitive to things, but they don't know why. Actually most people don't even know about their energy field let alone think about how to care for it. Caring for our energy field is one of the most important self-care approaches we can take. Let me explain what this "shattered energy" is about, and this is a quick advanced lesson in Energy Medicine: We have structured levels as part of our energy field - like a template - and these can shatter or get jolted upon certain events or encounters. The structured levels are structures on which the physical body subsists, so there is a direct connection to the body and reasons why someone would feel so funky when the energy is shattered. Here are some things that can shatter your energy:

--emotional upset --being involved or near an accident --experiencing or witnessing severe pain

Page 27: The Best of Home Spa Lady's Tips Articles Volume Ihomespalady.com/pdf/TipsBest-Vol.I.pdfMarilee Tolen’s Best of Home Spa Lady’s Tips Articles – Volume I Marilee Tolen tips@homespalady.com

Marilee Tolen  [email protected]  856‐857‐1799 27

--loud arguments with people --common loud noises - like motorcycles and cars on the road that are obnoxiously loud

One of the best things that you can do to repair a shattered energy field is to have a session in energy work - such as Healing Touch, Reiki, Brennan work or even acupuncture. Massage would even be helpful. Not everyone is going to have that access right away - and the sooner you can get to a treatment after the shattering event, the better! But one thing that you can do at home to help repair shattered energy is using the essential oils (therapeutic grade of course - definitely not perfume grade). If you run an essential oil (like White Angelica or Valor) in your field, you can assist the structured levels of the field to naturally repair. (See the video in the tips section below on how to run an essential oil through your field). Many "energetic sensitives" like me have to be very careful about where we go and what we expose ourselves to - and we need to know how to shield, protect and repair the field (all can be done with running some eo's through your field). What did I do the night I got home after the Eagles game to repair my field?

--did a body scrub (that's for an upcoming issue) --took a lavender bath (that's another good way to get essential oils to repair our field) --ran Valor through my energy field (see video below) --laid down on the bed, relaxed, and meditated

…and I skipped the sports report on the news that night!

NATURAL TIP FOR MOLDY BASEMENTS

===================================== I went downstairs to my finished basement last week - I hadn't been down there in a while - and my face started to tingle. No, it wasn't an emotional or a spiritual 'tingle', it was a sensation that I get when I'm in the presence of a toxin. Now, you might think this is an odd happening, but if you know what it's like to be energetically and environmentally sensitive, then you probably understand. Like many other sensitives, I pick up "information" in my environment. You know, it's that "vibrational" thing (and if you 'don't know' then make sure you listen in on my show today with Dr. Jim Oschman author of the Science of Energy Medicine). But this time it wasn't only energetic, it was a physical, environmental sensation (although the two aren't really separate). Not only did I know it was a toxin, I knew what it was - and that it was mold. Some might not consider mold a toxin but when it's overgrowing in my environment, to me it's a toxin. I had a criticizing moment with myself for not keeping up with the de-humidifying process over the past two months, and after that, I had a conversation in my head that went something like this… "how ironic, or rather synchronistic, or better yet, fortunate, that I just interviewed Jacque and Dr. Ed Close about natural treatment for mold and I have my notes handy on their recommended protocol!" (of which I'm going to share a brief outline with you here.) I am always so excited to apply what I learn in theory, and here I had that opportunity. After I got the dehumification back on track, I brought my essential oil diffusers downstairs. (I really went hog-wild here and brought down three diffusers - much more than I needed - just one diffuser would have been sufficient, but I had them at the house so I used them!) I diffused the essential oil blend of Thieves for a little more than 24 hours (if you don't know how to use a diffuser watch my video in the link below). The Close's protocol says to diffuse for 24 to 72 hours. I was so anxious to clean that I only diffused for the minimum of 24 hours. I got out my Thieves cleaner and wiped any and every surface down with the appropriate mixture of water and the Thieves cleaner. I then diffused again for 2 straight days. Now there were a few things I didn't do on the protocol, like the testing…but my own personal test was

sufficient as far as I was concerned! Here is a quick overview of the protocol: (but I really suggest that you purchase the book for more thorough information - see link for book below)

--Get sampling (Pre-test) --Diffuse 24 - 72 hours --Clean --Diffuse again --Get a follow up sampling (Post-test)

Please note that I am being extremely brief here and you can derive much more information from the book "Nature's Mold Rx: The Non-Toxic Solution to Toxic Mold". I've got to tell you that there is great information in this interview - including what to do for mold in the body! It's worth listening to!

SIX SIMPLE STEPS TO SENSIBLE HOLIDAY EATING

=============================================== Even health-conscious "foodies" face temptation to eat crummy over the holidays. Why? Holidays are the best excuse to eat delicious foods that are bad for us, and in excessive amounts! Listed below are six steps to sensible eating over the holidays so you can:

--feel good --stay chemically balanced --maintain your weight --have a good time --keep a positive attitude --enter the new year with good self esteem

1). Eat before you are hungry. Interesting concept ~ and it works! …Especially when you have social affairs to attend. Eat before you get there. 2). Think of yourself as a person who eats well. You may have to fake this one, but remember, your subconscious mind doesn't know the difference between what's real or imagined so think this anyway - even if you don't believe it's true! 3). If you are full, stop eating. This is actually very hard to do because the good 'bad' things have addictive components that drive us back to them. So, just bring your conscious awareness to it - that will make it easier to stop. 4). Eat lots of little portions. Allow yourself to keep going back for more food, but teeny amounts. It's another one of those things that will trick your triggers into not triggering you! 5). Practice declining foods you don't want to eat that are offered to you. This is a toughie too. It's the social pressure thing. Plan your excuse before you go to your holiday gatherings. To stay empowered on this one don't give an excuse that will make people feel sorry for you, like "I'm dieting", or "I'm allergic to sugar and wheat." Just say a confident "No, Thank You." 6). Think of what motivates you to eat better. It's that 'vision board' on your mind screen. How you want to look. How you want to feel. The clothes you like to wear. The health you want to embody.

SUGAR N' SPICE N' FDA APPROVAL, HOW NICE! ============================================= Whether you have a sweet tooth or not, this is sweet news ~ The FDA just gave its stamp of "GRAS" approval for the natural sweetener Stevia (GRAS = Generally Regarded As Safe). This means the FDA will not object to companies using it in their foods (whereas in the past they tried to obliterate it altogether from the marketplace). It's a huge step because the natural herbal extract stevia is now showing up as competition to its artificial caustic chemical counterpart, aspartame. As many of us natural foodies have known and probably studied (including the history of FDA approval of aspartame), the artificial sweetener, aspartame, is linked to many neurological disorders. Stevia, now taking the place of aspartame, is some of the best nutritional news in a long time. We can get excited about this because it's a positive change in the right direction, but we must not be fooled - here's why… ....the FDA's approval of stevia was largely in response to Coca-Cola and Pepsi's decision to start using stevia in place of aspartame. The FDA either had to reverse its oppression of the herb or legalize it or lose support of large corporate profits. Why are Coke and Pepsi motivated to switch over to stevia now? Well KUDOS to the power of the internet (and to the inspired and relentless folks behind the messages that went out ). The big companies (like Coke and Pepsi) had to start paying attention to the informed consumers complaining to them that they no longer wanted to consume aspartame - and the big guys are listening. There are a few folk that are hugely responsible and have worked so hard for these moments to happen. To learn about who they are, what they've done, you can visit this page on one of my favorite websites: HUhttp://snipurl.com/stevia_natural_news UH and read more about this story - I think Mike Adams is really great! Mike is predicting that we will start seeing more stevia sweetened products now on regular store shelves (not that many of us foodies here at HSL look on regular store shelves. . . but it's still 'sweet news'). So "where does the spice part come in?” you ask. Well, first of all, I was having fun with the title and it seemed to fit. And secondly, essential oils have been called 'spices', especially in Biblical times.

And thirdly, this gives me the opportunity to remind you that the FDA does in fact oversee what is going on with essential oils. They have developed a 'GRAS' list specifically for the oils. This is yet another reason why I love using Young Living because when I see the 'Supplemental Facts' on the labels - put there to fulfill FDA Standards - I'm reminded that there is not another essential oil company that is able to do that, or does it. This is important especially when using essential oils for internal use (which, I might add, I do often).
