The Biltmore House

THE BACK OF THE BILTMORE HOUSE

Late in 1889 George Vanderbilt had 2 prominent 19th century designers to design and build him a castle. The project took 6 years to complete.

Richard Morris Hunt designed the French Renaissance style 4 story stone house.

Frederick Law Olmsted designed the many acres of gardens around the home.

The Biltmore Estate is still family owned to this day. It sits on a 125,000 acre estate in Asheville, N.C.

This is Mr. Biltmore’s bedroom which is said to be haunted. The castle has 34 bedrooms and 43 bathrooms. There's an indoor pool, a bowling alley. and a gym.

Gimghoul Castle

The castle is located on Gimghoul Road in Chapel Hill, NC and was originally known as Hippol Castle.

The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill now owns Gimghoul Castle and the surrounding land.

The castle was built in 1926 for $50,000. It resembles an 11th century English Norman castle, and the 1300 tons of stone was assembled by the best stone masons in North Carolina.
