From the Principal’s desk… If you look at the Kent School District materials, you often find reference to the incredible diversity found in the district. East Hill Elementary is the most diverse school in this diverse district. It is clearly a source of pride among students and staff here that we embrace our differences as we come together around a commons premise: All families, no matter what their income, race education, language, or culture want their children to do well in school — and can make an important contribution to their children’s learning. This statement, borrowed from my favorite book on family engagement (Beyond the Bake Sale) underscores the need for school to provide opportunities for meaningful parent involvement in their children’s school. Our annual celebration of diversity is coming up next week. Multicultural Night is on March 12 from 6:00-7:30. At this great event, centered around performances by students and community groups and a ton of great food from different cultures, we will be unveiling plans for our new family resource center. We are converting the conference room in the PERC (cafeteria) into a warm and welcoming center where parents can meet, get resources and training to help their child do well in school. Mrs. Joan Johnson and a parent volunteer have been working hard on planning this change. We look forward to getting feedback form parents as we work towards ever greater levels of family engagement. We are all in this together. Yours Truly, Dr. Brian Patrick, Interim Principal The Blazer Bee BUZZ!!! Perfect Attendance Students are considered to have

Perfect Attendance if they are at school

on time and stay all day, every day in a month.

In February we had 217 students

with Perfect Attendance.

Students who attend school every day,

for the full day, have the greatest

opportunity to learn.

Have You Seen the

New Flags?

Our PERC has been decorated with a

collection of beautiful country flags. We are

planning on having a flag to represent the heritage

of each of our students and staff members.

We invite everyone to come and check out our flag

collection. Please see if your family’s heritage is

represented. If we have missed a country that is

important to your family, Dr. Patrick would like

you to contact him by email or to send a message to

school. His email is [email protected]

Mrs. Gwen Dahlin: I grew up in Wisconsin,

30 miles from Green Bay - so yes, that makes

me a Cheesehead and an avid Packers fan!

My family consists of my husband, our 3

energetic (yet sweet) boys, and 2 little dogs,

Indy and Peanut. I am a vegetarian and my

favorite restaurant is Chipotle. I have played

soccer competitively for 12 years and I still

enjoy playing whenever I can.

Mrs. Emily Collado:

I’m so happy to be at East Hill!!

A little about me: My favorite color is pink. I enjoy reading

and watching football. Of course my favorite football team is

the Seahawks!! I have two kids and we like to take family

walks, play at the park and have movie night. I am really

enjoying getting to know everyone at recess every day!

Ms. Cassandra Frederick:

Over the past few months I have had the honor of getting

to know the East Hill students and staff and am enjoying

my time here. A little about me; I have a seven year old

daughter, two cats and a dog. We enjoy being active

outdoors, swimming, watching movies and spending time

with family. I have a weakness for Thai food and my

favorite color is purple.
