The Office Depot/Staples $6 billion merger deal is slated for an upcoming shareholder vote in June. If approved by the Federal Trade Commission as expected, the merged company headquarters will move from Office Depot’s Boca Raton site to Staples operations outside Boston, but Office Depot must refund nearly $3 million in job incentive grants already paid by the city and county, with nearly 2,000 jobs at stake in this merger.
After capturing a coyote that may have killed one small dog and injured another, wildlife officials said people in the area may have been feeding it.
With hurricane season underway, South Florida homeowners should be aware of out of state casualty property insurers if Citizen Property insurers are thrust into the private sector. The Palm Beach Post reported that several of the takeout insurers are not rated and many have exposure that is too great for their financial resources. Eleven of the 29 companies that took out policies since
Citizens became insolvent according to the Post story. South Florida health insurers are request-ing sky-rocketing premiums for the next year. Leading the massive jump in premiums is the Assurant Health with a brutal 63% hike, followed by United Health Care with a 31% boost. Ten other insurers all requested hikes of 10 to 20%, with the state largest insurer Florida Blue posting a 6% increase for the next year. State insurance regulators will determine the approval for the rate request later this summer. State lawmakers rocked taxpayers with a $1,000,000.00 tab for a special session launched for the only job they were required to do in the first place, and that’s to pass a budget. Rubbing salt into the wounds, not one of the 120 House of Representative members offered to refund part of their paycheck when they walked off the job three days earlier than the session was supposed to end. Critics were unanimous when they agreed the State Legislature certainly needs adult supervision.

By CRA News ServiceStudents from Boca Raton High School squared off recently with their counter-parts from approximately 3,500 other schools in a competition that included a flight endurance contest powered by rubber-band engines, a precision robotics event and a test of a car’s speed, estima-tion and accuracy.In the end, the Science Olympiad team - which captured the top spot at the state level cross-discipline competition - earned 19th place in the 2015 National Champi-onship competition recently.“We had a great mix of seasoned veterans, along with some new talent,” Jon Benskin, the team’s coach, said in a news release. “Veterans performed in a magnificent way and rookies stepped up, proving that this team still has more to achieve.”One of the nation’s most prestigious sci-ence, technology, engineering and math (STEM) competitions, Science Olympiad – held on Saturday, May 16, at the Uni-versity of Nebraska, Lincoln – brought together 120 winning middle school and high school teams, which advanced from state-level competitions this spring. The national competition, consisted of knowledge-based events, lab events and events in which pre-built devices were tested.Representatives from government agen-cies, top universities and Science Olympiad
state chapters led their students through rigorous hands-on, building and lab events that covered topics in physics, epidemiol-ogy, astronomy, chemistry, meteorology and engineering.The students earned medals in three of the 23 different scientific events in which they competed.“These winning teams exemplify the best America has to offer in science, technol-ogy, engineering and math,” Gerard Putz, Science Olympiad president and co-found-er, said in a news release. “We are proud of their achievements and know their schools and communities will welcome them home like champions.”Science Olympiad is a Chicago-area-based national nonprofit organization founded in 1984. It is dedicated to improving the quality of K-12 STEM education, increas-ing student interest in science, creating a technologically literate workforce and providing recognition for outstanding achievement by both students and teach-ers. More than 220,000 students on 7,300 teams from all 50 states competed in 390 regional, state and national Science Olym-piad tournaments last year.“The team is already building and planning for next year,” Benskin said. “We are edg-ing into the truly elite of Science Olym-piad and next year we will be in the middle of the fight!”

Conference Making a Difference in Student’s Lives
I look forward to this time of the year, not so much because it is the end of the school year or the beginning but this is the week when I usually chaperone a group of middle and high school students to an an-nual crime prevention conference.Last week, I was with about 110 students from across Palm Beach County at the 30th Annual Preventing Crime in the Black Community Conference in Tampa.I have attended several types of confer-ence in my lifetime – journalism, church, civic organizations. I have even once spoken at the North American Beekeeping Conference & Tradeshow. And like fam-ily reunions, they can be opportunities to rekindle spirits with friends and others after a year or two apart. Through the seminars and workshops, you also can broaden your knowledge on the discipline.Each year as I leave the crime prevention conference, I always count my many bless-ings and reflect on how fortunate I am. It also is one of the few times when I find it hard to control my emotions especially after listening to the youth tell their stories.Take for example, during our luncheon on
Friday, Dr. Brenda Caldwell, a highly sought after youth motivational speaker, told the roomful of youth how to unlock their passion, purpose and power despite being bullied.But it was during a breakout session that followed - Murder by Mouth: Reversing the Destructive Power of Words - where she made her greatest impact. Dressed in a white lab coat and stethoscope, “Dr. B” selected three students from the crowd to join her on stage. These three students were hurting, they were victims of destructive words; many times by someone whom they trusted and felt should have loved them. They represented about 80 percent of the capacity filled room.They shared their stories of how their par-ents dashed their hopes with hurtful words that scarred them to this day. One beautiful girl said her father called her fat and ugly, another said her mother told her said she should have aborted her. The young lady said she often cuts herself and the young man said his father calls him a “Fat B” and that he should not have been here.They spoke for hundreds in the room
and their accounts had many in the room choked up.I was taking pictures of the event but I quickly left to room after tears began flow-ing like a stream. As I wormed my way through the crowd, I noticed other chap-erones with tissue in hand and some were drying their eyes. There was not a dry eye in the room.Dr. B had them to release the negative energy in their bodies and she began the process of healing by filling their minds with positive affirmations.She told them that the only reason why their parents could say what they did with such ease was because of a generational cycle of curse, where they do not love themselves. She also told them that if God can forgive us of the bad things we do, they should also forgive their parents.I tip my hat to Attorney General Pam Bondi for continuing this tradition, which is funded in part and organized by the sheriffs across the state, the Derrick Brooks Chari-ties and several Urban League affiliates in the Sunshine State.Without opportunities such as this confer-
ence, many of these students would have never left their city limits, would never stay in a hotel or receive an opportunity to speak out about issues that are affecting them daily. I am sure many would have suffered silently from not having an outlet as those 500-plus students had last week.I am reminded of the year in Jacksonville when a young lady kept riding an escalator from the hotel lobby to the second floor and back. After a few minutes went by, I asked if she was having fun. She had never seen an escalator as there are none in her city.And there was the year when we took the young man to Red Lobster in Orlando for his birthday. As everyone was deciding on what they would order, with the innocence of a child, he asked one of the chaperones, “What is this?’She responded, “That’s a menu which tells you the different food they serve.”Each year I keep promising that I am going to chronicle my experiences working with youth in a book. Who knows, with a little encouragement, I might just start this year.
You Can Control Your Reactions!Every person is permitted to feel frustrated, to be angry, and to experience disappoint-ment. What one is not entitled to do is to pass those emotions on to others, or to use the moment of uncertainty to make others responsible for the way they feel!Even if some of those might have been partially or totally the fault of someone else, one is personally responsible to act prop-erly, to deal intelligently and courteously with another, in the light of any unpleasant occurrence!Self-control is a human quality which ap-plies not just to what someone can refrain from doing, but also from what a person
should stop saying and even thinking, about anyone or any distressing situation.Far too many people are prone to jump to conclusions too soon, before having all the needed facts, thus causing unnecessary discordant notes to sound, affecting an ever larger multitude of individuals, most of whom have nothing to do with the conflict which could’ve been avoided altogether!Obviously, every person has a right to question whatever happens, to ascertain precisely what led to the incident. In several occasions, once the facts are gathered and reason prevails, one can quickly see that what appeared to be quite bad, happens not
to be that at all; the fear of a disruption of relationships had no basis whatsoever!One of the principles by which I have operated for quite some time is always to suspend judgment in any situation we face, especially one in which where suspicions are possible, and even wrong-doing on the part of another is feasible. The trouble is that many persons are lazy, preferring to think and act erroneously in situations of this nature, instead of seeking a wiser path which entails many inquiries before arriving at a correct conclusion.Not to be forgotten is also the way truth is perceived and held these days. Some people
don’t view truth as it has consistently been viewed and respected throughout human history. For some, truth is not significant anymore. Yet, only when it is found, af-firmed, and defended on any situation or issue, can one provide the needed answer to any conflict. Once it’s recognized, then the issue in question can be settled.Use your mind, involve your heart, control your emotions, speak with caution, and avoid by every possible means reaching any conclusions on a wrong basis, and with the improper tools of mind and reasonableness. Ultimately, only positive results will be satis-fying, insofar as they conform to reality!

Pirate Role-Play Adventure Gives Kids a Swashbuckling Good Time
By Aaron TefelHas your child ever dreamt of living life on the high-seas as a pirate? Well look no further. The Avenger is here to save the day.The Avenger, a 43 foot long and 9 feet wide Pirate Ship on wheels serves as the perfect event for kids’ parties and other events.Built in Boca Raton, The Avenger was designed with making sure that children can have a one-of-a-kind experience. Designed for 3-11 year olds, this ship has a variety of built-in play-stations aboard that allows kids to role-play as pirates and crew members on a truly interactive vessel, where their imagination is the only limit. Finished back in February of 2012, The Avenger was built by Adrian St. Cyr, C.E.O. of Imagineering Unlimited. LLC. With five decks, three cabins, eight sails, and two axles; The Avenger was created to replicate the authenticity of a real-life pirate ship. In fact, this ship was built to be a replica of a 1715 three-massed frigate.St. Cyr, who also plays the role of Cap-tain Tiny on the ship, talked about why he thinks a venue like this is so crucial for kids in today’s world to indulge in their more creative side.“One of the things that I see every day is kids are on their tablets and phones and so forth,” St. Cyr said. “When I was a kid we did everything. Now the kids can be really tentative and I wanted to bring that robust-ness back to kids. I tell them when they get on you can scream as loud as you want. There are very few rules. I want the kids to be robust and just be themselves. I want them to use their imagination and really get into role-playing.”
St. Cyr also reflected on The Avenger’s first opening night that was held a couple of years ago, where he talked about the impact this venue had on one particular child and her mother.“We opened on the first Promenade Event in Downtown Boca Raton,” St. Cyr said. “One hour into the evening a mother with wild tears in her eyes came rushing up to me. ‘My daughter!,’ she cried and pointed up on deck. I whipped around to see a tiny five-year-old girl shouting orders to the others. ‘Avast thar you swab!’ ‘Belay that!’ ‘Throw that man in irons and clap him in the brig!’ I then looked to the mother who was now smiling through her tears. ‘That is what she is supposed to do,’ I replied. ‘You don’t understand,’ the mother said. ‘My Sophie does not utter more than two words from one week to the next.’ That is when it really dawned on me how precious this ship can be for children.”Catherine Johnson, who runs the website for The Avenger and plays the role of First Mate Jessie Zaks when on the ship, spoke about how special this ship can be for chil-dren and how it really is meaningful.“The possibility of a child’s imagination is unlimited on this ship,” Johnson said. “To give the kids something so special really is a precious gift. FAU High School, AD Henderson Middle School Earn Five Awards
FAU High and AD Henderson seventh and eighth-grade teams earned five awards at the 2015 National SeaPerch Challenge recently at the University of Massachusetts at Dartmouth. More than 100 teams from across the coun-try competed in the juried poster competi-tion and in-pool technical events with their underwater Remotely Operated Vehicles (ROVs).The contest had three primary tasks: Poster/Interview/Presentation, Underwater Obstacle Course and Underwater Techni-cal Challenge. In the Underwater Obstacle Course, the students had to drive their ro-bot through five rings 5 feet apart, surface at 20 feet away, then return through those same rings. This year’s Underwater Techni-cal Challenge had three parts: manipulate a five slide abacus (1 point each), trigger five flag arms by using a long push rod in vary-ing sized access hole (1 point each), then move five containers by their rope loops into a large – medium – small receptor hole (1,2,3 points each). There were three levels of teams: middle school (and elementary) with 72 teams competing, high school with 53 teams competing and open class with 15 teams competing. The middle school and high school teams were limited to low-cost, eas-ily accessible parts from the SeaPerch Kit plus an additional $20 budget. The SeaPerch Kit contained three motors and propellers, batteries, control box, wire cable and PVC pipe to build the standard robot. The additional $20 budget allowed
for anything else except thrust motors. The open class was unlimited on budget and motors. All classes had to use a 12v battery and only the specified motor for thrust power. The SeaPerch program provides students with the opportunity to learn about robot-ics, engineering, science, and mathemat-ics (STEM) while building an underwater ROV as part of a science and engineering technology curriculum. Participants learn engineering concepts, problem solving, teamwork, and technical applications.The FAU High Team “Sea Owl – SS 405″ brought home three awards: second place in the Underwater Finesse Technical Chal-lenge with a perfect score of 25 points in 3 minutes and 53 seconds of the 15 minutes allowed. They also finished first place in the Technical Poster (scored 103/100), which qualified them to do the Presentation / In-terview, and first place in the Technical Pre-sentation and Interview (scored 187/184). Those three awards earned them their final award: second place in High School Overall. AD Henderson’s two middle school teams swept the Technical Presentation and Interview Seventh Grade “Sea Owl – The Sunrise” finished third place (scored 157) and “Sea Owl – 8″ received second place (scored 158) with a 6 and 7 point spread from the first place team (scored 164/184). The adult teachers/mentors were: Allan Phipps, STEM coordinator; Suzette Milu, middle school science teacher; Anie Daru-caud, graduate student mentor and Charles Perry Weinthal, parent/mentor.

Melissa McCarthyA Large Hit in “Spy”
Now we know. Actress/comedian Melissa McCarthy can carry a movie all by herself. You can see her in action in “Spy,” as a mousy, overweight analyst in the bowels of The CIA in Langley, Virginia called to Eu-rope to fight villains way out of her league.Writer/director Paul Feig worked with McCarthy in the hit 2011 comedy “Brides-maids.” He had the good sense to recog-nize an outsized talent to go along with the versatile performer’s plus size.Let us count the ways Melissa McCarthy is funny. She may look demure, but she has an outrageous potty mouth. Evidently Feig en-couraged her co-stars to match her F-bomb for F-bomb. This works particularly well with elegantly beautiful, refined, imperially slim Australian actress Rose Byrne, who plays bad girl Rayna Boyanov. The movie has a richly-deserved R-rating on language alone.In “Spy” McCarthy is called upon to don a series of ridiculous disguises and wigs. She starts out as Susan Cooper, dowdy dutiful drone of the CIA with a hopeless crush on hotshot agent Bradley Fine (Jude Law, relishing making fun of himself).Fine goes missing early in Feig’s tall tale; on the trail of a purloined nuclear device that is said to be up for sale to the highest bidder. Susan volunteers to go undercover to recover the bomb and the whereabouts of Fine.An even more hotshot agent, Rick Ford
(Jason Statham) minces no words in his contempt for Susan Cooper and the very idea she could be capable of doing what he can do fearlessly against all odds.There is a whole platoon of stunt people credited at the end. No doubt many of them were assigned to cover Susan’s char-acter, who fights like a mixed martial arts expert; pilots cars and motor scooters like Evel Knievel; clings to the landing gear of a helicopter; and flies through the air to land unscathed at sea or on land, to say nothing of dodging bullets from all manner of weapons. Susan is greatly aided in her escapades by Nancy, a fellow CIA analyst who shows up in the nick of time to save Susan’s life.Nancy is played by Miranda Hart, a star in her own right in her native England. Hart is listed as 6-foot-1, but she appears even taller paired with relatively short McCarthy. If Feig thinks he has found a contemporary female comedy duo to emulate the comical mismatch of Laurel and Hardy, he may be on the right track.The laughs are nearly continuous, with some groaners. Another Brit comic, Peter Serafinowicz, is hilarious as Italian rake Aldo, who can’t get enough of Susan Coo-per’s ample charms. If you are looking for a no-brainer comedy that sets James Bond on his ear, this is a movie for you.

Put It In Writting
A revolution is taking place in the world of business. Around the world, companies are starting to restructure around “cross-functional teams.” Managers are capitalizing on a basic fact of human behavior: People are more creative and more produc-tive when they work together. For some business leaders, this idea of worker synergy and productivity seems new, but actually it has been around for a while. In fact, several thousand years ago, the Bible stated it this way:“Two can accomplish more than twice as much as one, for the results can be much better. If one falls, the other pulls him up; but if a man falls when he is alone, he’s in trouble” (Ecclesiastes 4:9-10).However, just putting a group of people together does not make a team. They must learn how to relate to each other and work together effectively. They must be trained in team-building skills. If you are a part of a team at work, or if you’d like to increase the productivity of yourself and those you work with, I suggest you discuss and agree to practice these six energy-creating principles:• Emphasize the best in each other. People blossom with affirmation. They will not flourish, however, under constant criti-cism. A good guideline is to strive to give more strokes than pokes. Every time you succeed at doing this, you increase the value of the team. • Never try to control each other.
Many people like to control what is being done and those who are doing it, but exert-ing extreme control is generally counterpro-ductive. There are many ways to play the control game: “Interrogator” –controlling through questions. “Intimidator” – control-ling through anger. “Martyr” – control-ling through guilt. “Aloof ” – controlling through apathy and/or passivity. • Encourage the free flow of ideas. Never try to create or solicit ideas and evaluate them at the same time. To do so will dry up team creativity. Let the partici-pants have fun, and join in it yourself! Value everyone’s opinion, even when you disagree with them. • Replace competition with coop-eration. To build a team, you need to foster a cooperative spirit, not a competitive environment. Your competition is found at another business, not in your office. Help every person and every department to see and understand the big picture – your over-all goals – so they will realize and appreciate how their part helps the whole company. • Give away what you have… and watch it multiply! This is a spiritual law that really works. Whatever you need more of – energy, ideas, authority – whatever you have and desire to increase, learn to share it with others on your team. You will inevitably receive more back. Yield the credit to others. Remember that you’re a team!

Q In 2004, my husband and I en-tered into a verbal, partial marital settlement agreement. We agreed to divide, equally, all of our financial accounts, including our joint and separate brokerage accounts, and retirement accounts, and the money we could get from selling our condominium. We also agreed that neither of us would be responsible to pay alimony to the other, as we were both retired, and were receiving an equal amount of the marital as-sets. We were each eligible to receive about equal sums of social security. Neither of us hired an attorney to assist us in reaching the agreement. We had, and still have the condo-minium in Boca Raton, which my husband agreed to live in until it was sold. He also agreed to pay all of the carrying charges, as he was going to be the only one living there. Because of what was at that time a rising real estate market, we delayed in sell-ing the condominium, which is now worth about half of what it was worth earlier. We never got divorced, but I have recently filed. During the intervening years, I was much more successful in investing my share of the financial accounts that he was. He lost money in the market when it was going up. The cost of maintaining the apartment ate up much of his remain-ing capital. He and his lawyer now claim alimony, saying that he cannot pay for his own upkeep or even the taxes, insurance and maintenance on the condominium, now without a mortgage. I have been living off my interest and dividends, but that can only support me. We have had the condo on the market for some time with no results. Its value has fallen almost 40%.
Do you think I will owe him alimony, even though we verbally agreed that there would be no alimony? If the condominium sells, can the judge now give him more than half the proceeds, to help him support himself ?A Contracts between husbands and wives are viewed under the same body of law applicable to commercial contracts. Contracts, which are to be performed with-in a year, do not have to be in writing, but contracts, which contemplate performance over more than a year, must be in writing. Additionally, contracts calling for the purchase or sale of real estate must be in writing. Under the marital law statute, any agreement to waive alimony must be in writing, and be very specific. The first thing that you should do is look back over any correspondence be-tween you and your husband from the time of the agreement in the form of letters, written notes, or e-mails. A series of such writings can be strung together and be the written contract. Contract law states that an excep-tion to the rules requiring some contracts to be in writing is performance. If the actions required by a verbal agreement have been performed, the requirement for the writing can be over come. In your case, it appears that even in the absence of any writing the distribution of you financial assets would be upheld, whether or not it was to be com-pleted within a year. The alimony question is prob-lematic, but as it appears you hardly have enough money to support yourself, at pres-ent, your liability might not exist or be very small.

Let’s Communicate…..Today’s com-munication platforms of social media, town hall meetings, organized advocacy groups and political positions have changed the way we all communicate. The “topic or discussion of the moment” now can reverberate through our community at light speed. Other than the Wildflower Site, our Downtown and specifically everyone’s vi-sion of the FUTURE of the Downtown is currently the main subject. There are plenty of platforms to talk about our personal feelings on what Boca Raton was, is and what it should be. I am certain that these discussions will be on-going, as it relates more to one’s personal feelings rather than tangible codes, planning strategies and design. In this article, I intend to discuss specifically the architectural aspects of this turbulent topic and Why Design Matters in our Downtown.Who remembers the History of our Downtown? We must look back in time at the history of our community and specifi-cally how the city evolved, then stalled and then declined to understand how we arrived at where we are today. Our community was created over 85 years ago. That is a loooong time in community years. Addison Mizner mapped out a vision for a world renown destination. He envisioned a beautiful community designed to locale that both tourists and residents could enjoy. Perfec-tion was envisioned. Then, we experienced the first of many economic setbacks, world wars, Industrial /technical revolutions and the evolution of the urban environment. Multiple generations now exist here. In fact, some of the original stakeholders of our early settlers are no longer with us. In ad-dition, transplanted families who migrated here from somewhere else add to the mix of stakeholders.Blighted conditions overtook our down-
town. I lived there. The trend down seemed irreversible. We needed to design a new vision to create a positive fu-ture. In the mid 19080’s, City leaders, passionate citizens and planning and architec-tural experts expended enormous energy to outline, draft and then ratify into law a new framework of plan-ning codes,
infrastructure, and design opportunities for the “heart”(Downtown) of our commu-nity. Quality Design decisions were made. The DDRI (Downtown Development of Regional Impact)was created, Millions of dollars in infrastructure was built. Mizner Park was created and we began our new “Downtown Development” journey. Ordinance 4035, which outlined how our Downtown could evolve, was ratified in 1992. It should also be noted, that it took over 10 years from the early 1980’s for that to be conceptualized and then enacted. We were on our way.There is a change in winds. In terms of successful development, Mizner Park was the solution. Or was it? The winds in South Florida change often with the weather. The same occurs with development. Could anyone predict IBM would invent the personal computer here? That the technical revolution would spur seven million square feet of industrial research and development space and a completely new district in our community? And within one generation, this district is now empty and untenantable. The Boca Mall was replaced with a mega mall called Town Center. The city’s vision for a Downtown “Financial Mega Center” was unrealized. Urban sprawl now has communities living five miles west of 441 in our everglades:(( The number of changes is infinite. Our “feelings” of these changes will always be emotional. That is reasonable. Today, our community continues to evolve. BOCA RATON is a world recognizable BRAND. With this fact known, DESIGN really MATTERS in all decisions that continue to shape Boca Raton’s community. The Downtown is demanding places to live to fill a tremendous shortfall in housing. We are the largest employer in the county. Thousands of professionals enter our city
to work every day. Residents within the community are downsizing and want to live Downtown. In addition, we want to be entertained. We want gathering places to be with friends, raise our families and enjoy our very special and unique environment. In other words, we want a community to “Live, Work, Play & Raise a family”…….The winds have changed once again.The new elephant in the room - Our Downtown Vision. Sky cranes - “They are like ants, they are everywhere”. To that point, I say HOOWA! Development is posi-tive, exciting and although some stakehold-ers don’t like this, necessary. We must evolve and reinvent ourselves or the global changes around us are harshly consequen-tial. Look at Detroit. Development change in our Northwest District (North of Yama-to) is repurposing the struggling real estate. We are replacing the blighted empty tech buildings with new mixed use communities comprised of housing, retail services and commercial space that meets today’s market demand and deploy irrefutable urban plan-ning design strategies. Once again, Design Matters . This initiative is a model example of successful collaborations with citizens, businesses, property owners and our civic
leaders. Why can’t the same approach occur in our critically important Downtown? We will never be a mega financial district that was forecasted. Our city has evolved into a connected grouping of neighborhoods, East Boca, West Boca, NW District and of course the new vertical neighborhoods in our Downtown, where family relation-ships are strong. There is only so much horizontal space, so the vertical communi-ties in our Downtown are being born. A Downtown is an urban environment. It is not suburban. If you desire one over the other, you migrate to it. Our community is fortunate enough to have these choices. We can decide on communities like Boca West or Downtown Boca Raton. Residents should be given the opportunity to decide their lifestyle and we need varying options of lifestyles to choose from.The conversation will continue in my next article where I will attempt to take aim on “The Mark”, Downtown’s newest edition to our vertical neighborhoods AND the much debated “Interim Design Guidelines”. Until then, let’s continue the productive discourse as we strive for quality design decisions in our Downtown. DESIGN MATTERS friends.

Boca Raton Football Club (4-0-1) defeated Alianza Miami Football Club 3-1 at home in front of 367 fans on Friday June 5th thanks to goals from C.J. Phelps, Shadi Harb and Hasani Sinclair.
The teams were very physical and 6 yellow cards were awarded on the night between the two teams, 4 going to Alianza and 2 for Boca Raton.Boca took an early lead when Colby Bur-
dette found C.J. Phelps near the box as he scored in the first minute and Boca was able to keep steady possession of the ball throughout the first half, controlling most of the pace and defending well despite Miami’s persistent offense.The next goal for Boca came in the first half ’s stoppage time after a free kick was awarded near midfield. Harb was able to capitalize on the opportunity and sent the home team into the locker room with a two-goal lead.“We came into the game focused on the task at hand,” head coach Marcelo Castillo said after the match. “It was a very physi-cal game but we were able to persevere and give our fans something to cheer about.”Miami came out for the second half eager to score and Juscivlado De Sousa curved it in the back of the net for the visitors, which

In just a few months the club has broken APSL attendance records and, have been the most talk-about team in the league. Boca Raton FC’s goal is to be a pathway for players to compete at a high level and be part of a professional soccer atmosphere as well as bringing high-level competition to the City of Boca Raton where residents can watch a game in a safe, fun, and exciting environment.

Austin, Texas – Lynn University continued its academic success with the announcement of women's golfer Jessica Bradley and women's swimmer Tyne Potgieter as Capital One/CoSIDA Academic All-America Women's At-Large Team selections on Wednesday. Bradley was honored as a first team honoree for the second consecutive year while Potgieter be-comes the first swimmer in school history to collect Capital One recognition.Once again the Sunshine State Conference was well-represented with seven selections across the first-, second- and third-teams. Lynn was the only conference institution, and one of six in the nation, with multiple honor-ees, while Bradley was joined by Division II Women's At-Large Academic All-American of the Year Kristin Day as the only repeat winner.Bradley's newest accolade puts her in elite company in school history. A sports manage-ment major with a 3.90 grade point average, she becomes just the second student-athlete for any sport to be a two-time first team hon-oree, joining men's soccer player James Hayers (2007-08) as the only other recipient, and the sixth to earn multiple Academic All-America accolades. Joining Bradley and Hayers are Michele Newman (Volleyball 2001 & 2003), Dragana Ilic (Women's Tennis 2005-06), Kyle Conrad (Men's Soccer 2009-10) and Devon Woolard (Volleyball 2009-10).The Bishops Nympton, England, product was
recently honored as the Division II Women's Golf Honda Athlete of the Year for the sec-ond consecutive year and was already selected as the Women's Golf Coaches Association (WGCA) Co-National Player of the Year for the second straight season. She became the first student-athlete for Lynn in any sport to be named a two-time national player of the year and is the fourth women's golfer in Divi-sion II history to be honored in back-to-back years. A two-time NCAA Division II National Champion, Bradley led the Fighting Knights to a third place finish at the 2015 NCAA National Championship and added to her legacy by ending her career sharing or owning school records for lowest 18- (68) and 56-hole (216) totals, stroke average (73.27 – 2013-14) and top-10 finishes (13) in a season and stroke average (75.06), top-10 finishes (65) and victo-ries (seven) in a career.Potgieter was a pioneer for the newly-started women's swimming program. The three-year letterwinner leaves as the most decorated swimmer in the third-year program's exis-tence. This past season the Durban, South Africa, native earned First Team All-America honors in the 100 breaststroke and honorable mention recognition in the 200 breaststroke, both firsts for her. She has twice been se-lected a College Swim Coaches Association of America Scholar All-American after posting a 3.98 GPA in Psychology.
