Your wedding day is the day that two individuals becomeone. Endless hours of thinking, discussing, sometimes ar-guing and planning go into this special day. The end result

should be a reection of your individual personalities, familydynamics and a portrait of this new couple, being joined inmarriage.

Since the reception expenses tend to encompass the larg-est portion of your overall budget, the reception should be

the ultimate reection of who you are as a couple. There aremany factors to consider for adding your personal touch.

What do you envision when you imagine your reception? Are you looking for a place with natural lighting, outdoorspace, historical architecture or a strong theme? Theseconcepts form the foundation of a facility, and it is unlikely

that they can be altered. However, there are many otheritems you can adjust to t your personality, theme andcolors.

Color, in particular, can speak volumes about your per-sonality. Couples with bold personalities may choose to

work with equally bold colors like fuchsia; those looking forsomething timeless may choose a black-and-white theme;and couples looking for elegance may choose rich jewel

tones. Colors can also be molded to themes surroundingthe seasons.

Whatever your color choice or theme, be sure to incorpo-rate it in to your reception plans. Ask the facility what coloroptions you have for table linens and linen napkins. Thiscould be a great way to pull in color or accent it.

Are you looking for a place with natural

ligting, outdoor space, istorical arcitectureor a strong teme?

Dinner and beverage selections are another greatway to highlight your uniqueness as a couple. Whenplanning your menu selection, think about who youare and your history as a couple. Do you share afavorite food or a favorite memory revolving aroundfood? Perhaps there is a way to integrate the dinner

you had on your rst date. A shared favorite food orfamily recipe is another option.

If you dont want to make a bold jump from the tra-ditional wedding dinner, there are other ways to in-corporate a special dish into your reception. Partyfavors, appetizers or a late- night snack provide op-portunities for this: For example, chips and salsa as

a late-night snack allow you to incorporate your loveof Mexican cuisine without making a large leap likehaving a taco bar for dinner.

Keep the same concept in mind for beverages. Ifyou share a love of wine, perhaps a wine bar wouldbe a nice addition to cocktail hour. For coffee lovers,a coffee bar is a nice after-dinner option. Is therea specic drink that would highlight your personality, history as a couple, theme or colors? If so, ask if itcould be displayed as a drink of the night.

Throughout the planning process, keep these con-cepts in mind. It is not necessary to add personal-ity to every small detail, but by adding just the rightamount here and there, your special day is sure tobe the perfect reection of the future Mr. and Mrs.

Watever your color coice or teme,be sure to incorporate it in to yourreception plans.

Wedding day movie, take one. Fade-in from black. Ac- tion! It is a sunny morning, the 24th day of October,1967. A man steps out of his humble motel room,

and the heat of a Las Vegas day welcomes him ashe takes a walk down the strip, heading for the Sil-ver Bell Wedding Chapel. This day is his wedding day,and nervous anticipation grips his heart. He and hisred-headed bride have decided on the simplicity of ashort service with just two witnesses and a justice of

the peace. He opens the door of the small chapel, andhis eyes fall upon the slim girl with the bright red hair. Heapproaches his bride, grips her hand in his and makes

his vows. This, he thinks, is for a lifetime of love. Cut.Print it. Fade to black. That was 39 years ago, and that man is still married to

his red-haired bride. He is my father. I would give every-thing to be able to know more of my parents mysteri-ous love story. Who were their witnesses, and how did

they come to be there? What did my father say to mymother as he gazed into her chestnut brown eyes andexchanged rings of commitment? All of these elementsand perhaps a hundred more are only theirs alone.

The only glimpse into this memorable day we have as

a family is a single faded photograph of Mom and Dadafter the ceremony and their own faded memories ofthat strange and special day in Las Vegas.

    SOMETHING OLD,

    SOMETHING NEW

Years after te event, your memoriesof the day become the somethingold in your family.

Many people understand the long-term value ofhiring a videographer to be an integral part of

their wedding day. After all, we have a uniqueskill: to be everywhere and nowhere at thesame time, visually crafting a unique video story

which will bring tears and laughter to your homefor many years, long after the sound of the nalnote from the band has faded in your memory.

Years after the event, your memories of the daybecome the something old in your family. Yet,

your high-denition video, produced on a Blu-ray disc, is the something new that keeps yourunique wedding day fresh and vibrant, causinglaughter and tears on each anniversary.

We live in revolutionary times of digital media,

and the high-denition Blu-ray disc will look andsound as great many years from now as it didthe rst time you watched it. I wish I had sucha creation from my dad and moms own day,

that hot, sunny morning on the Las Vegas stripsome 39 years ago. The real-life movie fades

to black, but with professional cinematic vid-eography, with the new Blu-ray disc format, thememories will never fade away.

    Cut. Print it. Popcorn anyone?

hig-denition video, producedon a Blu-ray disc, is te sometingnew that keeps your uniquewedding day fres and vibrant.

Now that he has proposed, the next step is to nd you thatperfect wedding dress.

Before you start shopping, it is a good idea to look in bridal

magazines and on bridal websites to get an idea of whatstyles you like. Remember that dresses look different onyour body than in the pictures, so keep an open mind. Feelfree to bring in pictures to bridal shops so they can help youget started. Call the bridal stores that you plan to visit aheadof time to make an appointment. (Not all bridal stores requireappointments but most doespecially on Saturdays.)

Choose two or three members of your family or your friends

to help you shop; their input will give you guidance on yourspecial day. Use the rst shopping trip to pick out yourwedding gown, and make a second appointment for yourbridesmaids to pick out their dresses.

When you do nd your perfect gown, order it right away. Many brides shop around for months, comparing each to

the special one theyve already found, so when you knowyouve found the right one, just go for it. Bridals stores neverknow if a dress is going to be discontinued, so purchasingearly is a good idea, and a bridal gown usually takes six to

nine months to arrive at the store (if it doesnt get delayed inshipping for weeks!). Ordering your dress a full year in ad-vance will give you time to nd and order your accessories, and allows time for alterations. Bridal shoes, jewelry, veilsand tiaras usually take six to eight weeks to arrive and youneed those before you start your alterations. Plan to start

your bridal alterations three months prior to your wedding. Also, bring your personal attendant to all of your bridal gownttings.

Trying to get the men in your wedding party to get their tuxedos or suits is like pullingteeth. Often, groomsmen would prefer to wait until the last minute to get tted, so itsbest to take a few steps so the process runs smoothly.

The bride and groom should go to the tuxedo shop three to four months prior to theirwedding date to pick out their preferred tuxedo style. The prices of tuxedos dependon the style and color, which are usually black, brown, ivory, tan, latte or gray. Many

tuxedo shops provide a complimentary grooms tuxedo with six or more tuxedo rent-als.

When picking out your tuxedo, you also need to decide what color shirt you wouldlike, along with a vest and tie, so bring a color swatch of your bridesmaids dresses.

All tuxedo shops need the groomsmens and ushers measurements six to eightweeks prior to your wedding. The tuxedos do not arrive until the week of your wed-ding, usually on the Thursday before. Make sure all of your guys try on their tuxedosbefore the day of your wedding to make sure they t properly. As long as everyone

was measured professionally at a tuxedo or bridal store you should have a great t!

At a time in history when not much is certain, one thing we

can always count on is love. Even in challenging economictimes, most couples are still willing to invest in nding engage-ment and wedding rings that serve as meaningful symbolsof the love they share. Now more than ever, couples areseeking rings that are truly a unique expression of their love. From classic solitaires to contemporary-inspired designs, engagement rings are as creative and singular as the brides

that wear them. With the ever-evolving array of innovativedesigns, bridal jewelry now has something for everyone.

Although nding the perfect ring might not be as easy asfalling in love, it doesnt have to be overwhelming. Mostmodern couples engage in the process of looking for rings

together, shopping around for style, value and selection. The experience is part of the journeysome couples wantto take the scenic route while others race to the summit.Finding the right ring for your lifestyle, budget and style canbe a long process, but when you nd the perfect ring, itslike being on top of the world.

White metals are still white hot. The majority of bridal jewelry

is still predominantly made in white gold, platinum and pal-ladium. Recently however, theres been an increase in thepopularity of rose gold, yellow gold and two-tone mountings.Choose the metal that atters you; fashion changes but theright ring will transcend the trends.

Vintage-inspired jewelry reminiscent of heirloomrings is having a romantic revival. A throwback toan era of ultra-feminine glamour, a vintage design isone youll love for a lifetime. Often created with tinyyet exquisite micro-pav-set diamonds on the band, vintage designs achieve a dazzling look.

Custom design is the expression of your unprec-edented love. Many jewelry stores now offer a

custom-design process where you can turn yourdream ring into a reality. Often couples will look tocustom design when trying to nd the perfect wed-ding band to match their engagement ring. Start thedesign process by consulting your local jeweler. Allowenough time to fully engage in the process, rene

your ideas and let the designer carefully create yourexclusive design. From beginning to end, creatinga one-of-kind piece of jewelry that represents yourrelationship is truly a memorable process.

Wedding Gifts. An unexpected wedding gift toeach other can be one of the most memorablegifts couples will ever give and receive. This simplegesture will be a priceless memory youll share.

Traditional gifts like a strand of pearls for the brideand a handsome watch for the groom are timeless.Choose gifts that are meaningful to you and t your

budget. And remember: the greatest gift is the startof your life together.

Theres been an increase in the

The customzed weddg. Couples are skipping traditional styles infavor of individualized themes that truly represent them. Whetherit is a favorite pastime or hobby, sports team, or a custom mono-gram to personalize their event, couples are taking those extra

steps to stay true to their vision.

Specat e. Also on the rise for 20102011: specialty linens. There has been a signicant increase in couples that also to carrytheir colors or prints throughout the entire ceremony and recep-tion. Couples want to carry that custom look into their ceremony

and reception with chair covers, sashes, table runners or overlays,oor-length tablecloths and more.

Cad buffets. Although the candy buffet trend has been aroundfor a couple of years, it is still a top choice for favors. Some sim-ply like the idea of giving their guests the option to choose theircandy based on their individual tastebuds, and some like the

dcor aspect that a candy buffet can bring to their overall theme orcolor choice. Its a great way to be creative and thank your guestsfor coming at the same time. Nothing symbolizes adulthood like mar-riage, so take that chance to call on your inner child and indulge inthis sweet treat.

late-ght sacks. Most couples put an emphasis on their social-hour appetizers and beverage selections and are now providinga separate late-night treat for their guests to enjoy. You can usual-ly plan on less than half of your guest countor less, depending

on your guest listbeing in attendance for phase II of your evening. You will want to provide a fun and casual bite for your guests to in-dulge in such as pizzas, build-your-own nachos, sliders, popcorn, ora sweet-and-salty combination. You will want to keep your late-nightsnacks light and easy.

Wter-woderad weddg. If a fresh blanket of white snowsounds like the ideal photo backdrop for you, then a winterwedding is the way to go. For some couples, getting marriedin the winter is what they had always imagined. Not only can

you escape to a warm destination on your honeymoon immediatelyafterward, but it can also be a great way to save money, as somevendors offer discounts in the winter months.

Picking owers is one of the most essential steps in thewedding-planning process. Next to the bride, the weddingowers are one of the most photographed details of your

wedding day. It is crucial to have wedding bouquets andcenterpieces that t both the style and theme of your perfect

    wedding day.

Selecting the right orist to design and create your dreambouquets and oral decorations can be a satisfying ac-complishment on your wedding checklist if you follow these

    steps:

Ask for referrals. When a orist is highly recommended byanother bride or photographer, you know they will do great

    work on your wedding.

Attend bridal expos. You can experience fresh, real-life cre-ations as well as examine the quality of the orists design

work. This will also allow you to form an impression about

a orist regarding how they make you feel when you meetthem in a room full of other brides.

Make an appointment. Book a time to sit with a orist andlook at photos of their past creations, which will allow you tosee their designs in close detail. This is also a great time todetermine their knowledge of owers and assess their wed-ding oral experience level.

Plan, plan, plan. Have some oral ideas in mind when youmeet with your orist. Bring pictures from magazines or the

Internet that reect your vision. Have some colorsand ower choices in mind. If youre unsure of

what you want, an outstanding orist should beable to help you create that perfect combinationof colors and owers to make your wedding ow-

    ers a dream come true.

Pick your orist. Book the orist (by securingthem with a deposit) that makes you feel at easeand comfortable. Find one who listens to yourideas, but has ideas and suggestions for you,as well. Select someone you really want to work

with, not just someone who is available on yourwedding day. Find a orist who is just as excitedabout your owers and wedding day as you are.

Picking your bridal bouquet is an important start to a beautiful wedding day. Once the bridesbouquet owers are chosen, the rest of the wed-ding owersfrom the bridal-party owers to thecorsages and boutonniereswill fall into placeby incorporating the bouquet owers throughout

    all of the wedding owers.

Once youve chosen your owers, youll need to

create the perfect ceremony site design plan. If you are having a traditional wedding, the aisleyou walk down should represent elegance trulyworthy of you as a bride. You need everythingfrom gorgeous pew decorations to amazing alterpieces to make this a stunning vision.

Finally, its time to design the reception sitethis

is your wow factor. You can make an impressiveand beautifully elegant statement by having largeoral centerpieces with multiple designs. Thesedesigns should utilize different sizes to break up

the rooms space, ultimately giving the receptionsite the true beauty that every bride deserves ather wedding reception.

As a recent bride who planned her own wedding, hundreds of things come to mind anytime someone asks me for advice on planning his/her wedding. But since there are books, websites and magazines bursting with helpful tips,money-saving advice and go-to guides for how to plan a stellar wedding, Ill give

    just two pieces of advice.

The rst is to make a Wedding Day Timeline. Im not talking about a generaltimeline of events; your wedding programs will do that just ne. I mean map outeverything from when your alarm is going off in the morning to who is driving youand your new husband to the hotel on your wedding night. Write down everydetail you need to remember (think about orists, pictures, family arrivals, hair ap-pointments and the timing of your dance). While you may not follow the timelineexactly, it will save you the stress of trying to remember when and where youneed to be, along with other important people of the day.

My second and nal piece of advice is to make sure that you take the time toenjoy your big day. Youve spent countless hours planning, preparing, stressingand anticipating this day; the last thing you want to do is miss it. Believe me,

your wedding day will go faster than you ever thought possible, so do whateveryou can to soak in one of the most incredibledays of your life.

Wedding decorations are important because they set the at-mosphere of the party. They accent the reception venue and

the ceremony, making each t for the occasion. Since deco-

rations are a matter of personal taste, the options are limitlessand quality can vary. The wedding decorations are going tobe what sets the entire feel of this day, so be sure to love thedecorations at both the ceremony and the reception.

The decorations can cover everythingfrom the tables to thelightingbut also the invitations sent out to guests. An eye fordetail, lots of planning and help from expert vendors can bringit all together for your special day.

Your photographs will capture not only you and all your wed-ding guests, but also all of the wedding dcor in all of its glory.

When you choose your designs, think of that wedding albumand the dcor that will be lling up many of the shots.

Some couples prefer a traditional wedding. In that case, it isespecially important for the bride and groom to choose wed-ding dcor that will represent their heritage perhaps evenmake the guests think they have been swept away to anothercountry. Even if the wedding is more casual, the air for theevent should still be obvious as people walk into the wedding

reception. Wedding dcor covers so many different aspects of yourevent, so hiring reputable vendors is a must (for the perfectdesign and for your sanity!). Of course, make your desires andexpectations clear, but spending that extra bit of money on agreat vendor will be money well spent.

When does the rst impression of your wedding happen? Atthe church? At the reception? Actually, the true rst impres-sion happens when you formally ask your family and friends

to join you on your special daywith your wedding invita-tions. You can create invitations that are uniquely yours.

The wedding invitations are your guests rst glimpse of your wedding. They set the tone through design and speciccolor combinations, and suggest the events overall level offormality.

The rst steps are to decide on the vision, the colors thatyou want integrated into the invite and the quantities needed. You may choose to create a traditional, formal wedding in-vite or a modern invite based on the wedding motif that youenvision.

An invitation can consist of several customary elements: anouter envelope; the invitation; a reception card; a responsecard that is self-addressed or includes a self- address, un-sealed envelope; an accommodations card; thank-youcards; and, in some cases if time allows, a save-the-datecard or magnet. In designing a custom wedding invite, you

will want to apply style and uniqueness to each piece, keep-ing them all socially correct and applying wedding invite eti-

quette as well. They can be worded and arranged in count-less ways to reect the style of the occasion. You shouldintegrate your wedding colors into your invitations to tie your

Your reception counts for at least half of your wedding day ex-perience, so creating the perfect atmosphere for you and yourguests is vital to the success of your reception. With myriad

DJs available, each with distinctive experiences, prices and spe-cialties, the decision can seem overwhelming. However, whenchoosing your DJ, it is important that they dont just hold yourreception, but that they throw you a PARTY!

P: ProfessionalWhen searching the seemingly endless list of local DJs, it is im-portant to nd one that is professional on every level. This means:Is your DJ polite and respectful on the phone? Does he/she havea professional Web site? Do they have professional equipment?

Are they professional when handling your needs? Remember, this is your special day and you do not have to settle!

    A: Accommodating

Your DJ should be accommodating to you and your requests. They should be able to answer questions and make suggestionsthat allow for a successful evening. With a wealth of experience, your DJ should be able to use their knowledge to generate areception that is yours. Your style, your way!

R: ResourcefulBeing resourceful is an extremely important attribute for your DJ

to have. This means nding a DJ who has the ability to nd cleverways to overcome difcult situations. Though you may not ex-

perience any problems at your reception, having a DJ who canimprovise is still a necessity. A resourceful DJ will understandmusic (songs, styles, etc.) and how to relate that to the genreof people present. When your DJ is resourceful, the success of

    your reception is guaranteed.

    PARTyTIME

Your DJ sould be able to use teir knowledgeto generate a reception tat is yours.

T: Tactful A tactful DJ will have people skills. Since thisspecial day will be celebrated by a vast array ofpeople (with different backgrounds, personalities,

from different generations), it is important that youhave a DJ who is able to unify the group. Whena DJ is tactful, the reception is made special toevery guest.

Y: YoursYour DJ should be exible and offer suggestions inthe overall design, but also sensitive to any needsor desires you may have. A reception that is cre-ated with your best interests and requests in mind

will quickly become a magical and memory-lled

    celebration!

    QUESTIONS FOR YOUR DJ

Do you act as the emcee and make all ofthe announcements?

How involved can we be in selecting music

    for our event?

When do you arrive to set up for our wed-ding?

What is included in the cost of my event?

Do you bring backup equipment with you tothe wedding?

What will you wear to our wedding?

How long have you been a DJ and howmany weddings have you done?

Toug you may not experienceany problems at your reception, having a DJ who can improvise

    is still a necessity.

By Tami Spanier, of Pearl Limousine

As you plan your perfect day, you need to consider your transportation. If you have planned an elegant

wedding day with several attendants, the car servicethat will probably come to mind is limousine. Whetheryour wedding party is large or small, a limousine is agreat option. Extravagant or economical, there is apackage, size and color for every want or need.

Other transportation choices may be a horse-drawncarriage, a vintage car, a party bus or your Uncle Lou-

ies tractor and wagon. Whatever your choice, make itspecial and memorable for the most anticipated dayof your life.

As with any big decision, there are concerns toweigh. The weather may be an issue if your choiceof transportation is open-air; have a back-up plan inplace in case of rain. Also, make sure that you choosea reputable company to provide your transporta-

tion. Your next-door neighbor or a friend of a friendmay have a limousine or vintage car they are willing torent inexpensively, but if they dont show up on time,or dont have the proper licensing or insurance, you

could be setting yourself up for disappointment andfrustration. Before booking your ride, do a little home-

work. Talk with friends and family as to what they haveseen, heard or used. Many companies are rated with

the Better Business Bureau. Go online or call them for

Most owners and companies are verywilling to sow off teir rides.

more information. Ask to see the limousine, car or buggy. Most owners and companiesare very willing to show off their rides.

Limousines have become the most popu-lar type of wedding transportation over thepast decade. They are usually beautiful andprovide a safe alternative to driving, espe-cially if you have chosen to have any type ofalcoholic beverage before or after your cer-emony. Once a car is chosen for you and

the wedding party, its time to think aboutyour guests.

Wedding-guest transportation is a newer trend, but has become more and morepopular. Many brides and grooms are nowconsidering how to get out-of-town guests

to and from the ceremony and receptionsites. Sometimes out-of-town guests havedifculty nding the reception hall. Also, if

you are serving alcoholic beverages to yourguests, making sure they get back to the

hotel or motel safely is a wonderful ideaand will give you and your parents peace ofmind. Several local bus or tour companiescan provide you with economical mode of

    transportation.

Whether you have chosen a limousine, car, buggy or tractor and wagon, you canchoose from a full-day package or just a ridefrom the church to the reception a nicefeature that can be arranged far in advanceor as a last-minute detail. Whichever youchoose on your special day, remember tosit back and enjoy the ride.

Before booking your ride, do alittle omework. Talk wit friendsand family as to wat tey aveseen, eard or used.

    By Nichole Winter, Destination Vacation

Your honeymoon is a much-needed vacation together after allyour pre-wedding stress. Its a time when you two can enjoy

each other, relax, or maybe try a new adventure. Wherever you may want to gowhether its skiing in the mountains, cruising through the inside passage of Alaska, or relaxing on abeachhere are ve simple but important tips to follow.

    1. Decide where to go. Start by visualizing yourself enjoyingyour honeymoon, and be able to describe it in three words, such as warm, sunny beach; crisp, mountain air; or winetast-ing and vineyard tour. Your words can help narrow down yourdesired destination options. With each of you coming up with

three words, this will tell you if you have the same style of hon-eymoon in mind or if youll have to blend your ideas together.

    2. Discuss a budget. This is sometimes hard to decide if youhave not traveled much, so dont be afraid to ask your travelagent what is a typical budget for the type of honeymoon you

want. From there you can discuss together what budget youare comfortable with spending.

    3. Use a travel agent. They are experts who know the destina-tions and resorts. Travel agents are there to help you, so askquestions. With their knowledge, they will help you plan your

vacation of a lifetime by nding the right destination, advisingjust the perfect resort, or planning that amazing excursion thetwo of you have always wanted to experience.

    HoneymoonTravel Tips

Dont be afraid to ask your travel agentwhat is a typical budget for the type ofoneymoon you want.

This will be one of the most importantvacations te two of you will ever take as a

married couple, so make it memorable.

    4. Allow enough time to plan. This can be very important because you mayneed time to arrange for passports or visas and to make sure your license isup-to-date. You may even have to discuss how long you want to be gone andplan for your work vacation time. But planning early will help prevent pre-weddingstressthere are already many other items on you wedding to-do list.

    5. Have Fun. Do not forget that this is an exciting time of your life, so have funplanning. This will be one of the most important vacations the two of you will ever

take as a married couple, so make it memorable.
