THE BRIDGE
You are the bridge between history and His story
‘Many things’ to ‘One thing’ (Lk 10:41-42)
Luke 10:38-42 (NIV) 38 As Jesus and his disciples were on their way, he came to a village where a woman named Martha opened her home to
him. 39 She had a sister called Mary, who sat at the Lord's feet listening to what he said. 40 But Martha was distracted by all the preparations that had to be made. She came to him and asked, "Lord, don't you care that my sister has left me to do
the work by myself? Tell her to help me!" 41 "Martha, Martha," the Lord answered, "you are worried and upset
about many things, 42 but only one thing is needed. Mary has chosen what is better, and it will not be taken away from her.”
"Martha, Martha," the Lord answered, "you are worried and upset about many things, 42 but only one
thing is needed. Mary has chosen what is better, and it will not be taken away from her."
1. Ask ‘one thing’Importance of seeking God
Psalm 27:4 (NIV) 4 One thing I ask of the Lord, this is what I seek: that I may dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of my life, to gaze upon the beauty of the Lord and to seek
him in his temple.
2. Add ‘one thing’Importance of layered obedience
Ecclesiastes 7:27 (NIV) (Wisdom Literature)27 "Look," says the Teacher, "this is what I have
discovered: "Adding one thing to another to discover the scheme of things ...”
3. Need ‘one thing’Importance of discipling
Luke 10:42 (NIV) 42 but only one thing is needed. Mary has chosen what
is better, and it will not be taken away from her.
(She had a sister called Mary, who sat at the Lord's feet listening to what he said.)
CHARACTER TRUMPS GIFTING EVERYTIME!
Your gifting will take you places your character would never let you go.
4. Follow ‘one thing’Importance of priority
Luke 18:22 (NIV) 22 When Jesus heard this, he said to him, "You still lack
one thing. Sell everything you have and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven. Then
come, follow me."
5. Know ‘one thing’Importance of having something to talk about
John 9:25 (NIV) 25 He replied, "Whether he is a sinner or not, I don't
know. One thing I do know. I was blind but now I see!"
6. Do ‘one thing’Importance of letting go of ‘stuff’
Philippians 3:13 (NIV) 13 “Brothers, I do not consider myself yet to have taken
hold of it. But one thing I do: Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead …”
7. Remember ‘one thing’Importance of trusting & waiting for God
2 Peter 3:8 (NIV) 8 But do not forget this one thing, dear friends: With
the Lord a day is like a thousand years, and a thousand years are like a day.
One thing I ask of the Lord, this is what I seek: that I may dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of my life, to gaze upon the
beauty of the Lord and to seek him in his temple.
Adding one thing to another to discover the scheme of things …
Only one thing is needed (She had a sister called Mary, who sat at the Lord's feet listening to what he said.)
You still lack one thing. Sell everything you have and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven. Then come, follow
me."
One thing I do know. I was blind but now I see!“
But one thing I do: Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead,
But do not forget this one thing, dear friends: With the Lord a day is like a thousand years, and a
thousand years are like a day.
