7th Grade Wins Scholars’ BowlLeague Tournament
The middle school’s scholars bowl teams recently completed another successful season. This year’s league tournament was hosted by Wichita Independent on Thursday, February 18, with all 13 of our Central Plains League schools competing.
After a challenging round robin competition, the 7th grade team advanced to the finals, while the 8th grade team was one win short. Your 7th grade team won 5 of the 6 rounds in final play; enough to earn them a 1st place finish! With 13 teams in our league, this is quite an achievement! A plaque with this accomplishment has been added to the wall in the sports facility commons and each participating scholar received a gold medal!
Mrs. Landwehr and Mrs. Fraley would like to thank this year’s team, and to send a special thank you to the parents who were able to provide snacks for our home meet. We also ask that parents of 8th grade team members encourage their students to consider trying out for the high school team next year. Next time you see one of these bright kids around our town, remind them of how proud we are of them!
Congratulations Middle School Scholars’ Bowl Teams!

MIDDLE SCHOOL NEWS HIGH SCHOOL NEWSTreats for Testing
Each year during state testing we encourage our students to do their very best. The middle school students will be taking a variety of state tests during the months of March and April. To help and encourage our young students, we have offered a variety of snacks that can be eaten between sections of the test. For the past several years parents have come to our rescue by supplying healthy or easy to eat treats and snacks for our students to eat such as crackers, pretzels, dried fruit and string cheese. If you are able to help our students, we will be collecting the snacks during March and April. You or your child can bring the treats for the student’s grade level to the middle school office. If you have questions regarding what type of snack to bring, amount/number of snacks please do not hesitate to call or email the middle school counselor, Sydney

Job Shadow Program Kicks Off in April for DHS Juniors
Once again this spring, the DHS juniors will be participating in job shadowing activities. By now many of you probably know that job shadowing is a component for the senior project/graduation requirement. The official day for this activity is Friday, April 8 which will coincide with career activities for other classes at DHS. Juniors will choose a job/career in order to observe an adult at work for a period of four to six hours. The activity is coordinated through English III classes.
This spring marks the thirteenth year for this activity. Most students are able to arrange their own business contacts. However, a few juniors may need help finding placements. You may have a junior student contact you in the near future.
The job shadow event has proven to be highly successful and of great benefit to most students. In fact, many schools in Kansas have begun encouraging students to participate in this kind of activity at least one time. In previous years our juniors were given the chance to experience careers ranging from construction contractors to physicians.
The school is grateful for those of you who are able to help the students by giving them opportunities to become more familiar with the job market. With your continued support and assistance, the project promises to have another successful year.
