MIDDLE SCHOOL NEWS HIGH SCHOOL NEWSTreats for Testing

Each year during state testing we encourage our students to do their very best. The middle school students will be taking a variety of state tests during the months of March and April. To help and encourage our young students, we have offered a variety of snacks that can be eaten between sections of the test. For the past several years parents have come to our rescue by supplying healthy or easy to eat treats and snacks for our students to eat such as crackers, pretzels, dried fruit and string cheese. If you are able to help our students, we will be collecting the snacks during March and April. You or your child can bring the treats for the student’s grade level to the middle school office. If you have questions regarding what type of snack to bring, amount/number of snacks please do not hesitate to call or email the middle school counselor, Sydney

Job Shadow Program Kicks Off in April for DHS Juniors

Once again this spring, the DHS juniors will be participating in job shadowing activities. By now many of you probably know that job shadowing is a component for the senior project/graduation requirement. The official day for this activity is Friday, April 8 which will coincide with career activities for other classes at DHS. Juniors will choose a job/career in order to observe an adult at work for a period of four to six hours. The activity is coordinated through English III classes.

This spring marks the thirteenth year for this activity. Most students are able to arrange their own business contacts. However, a few juniors may need help finding placements. You may have a junior student contact you in the near future.

The job shadow event has proven to be highly successful and of great benefit to most students. In fact, many schools in Kansas have begun encouraging students to participate in this kind of activity at least one time. In previous years our juniors were given the chance to experience careers ranging from construction contractors to physicians.

The school is grateful for those of you who are able to help the students by giving them opportunities to become more familiar with the job market. With your continued support and assistance, the project promises to have another successful year.

9:00 am -1:00 pm on Friday, March 25th Cost: $30 per class (pizza lunch included) Register by paying Mrs. Glidewell by Wednesday, March 23th. This is for students who have not taken the ACT before or who are needing strategies to improve their scores. I hope to help our students take some of the guesswork out of preparing for the ACT . This class will focus on general test taking strategies as well as specific methods for improving scores on each section of the test. We will be doing smaller practice sections testing out the strategies learned.

Classes will take place in Mrs. Glidewell’s room at DHS.
