Term 4, Week 2 22 October 2018 Blakehurst Public School, Dewrang Street, Carss Park, NSW 2221 Tel: 9546 1555 Fax: 9547 1796 E-mail: [email protected] Website: blakehurst-p.schools.nsw.edu.au A Message from our Relieving Principal, Mrs Savellis Welcome back to Blakehurst Public School. Term 4 has started off with a bang! We had a visit from Narani Pre School last Tuesday whereby 12 excited 4 year olds experienced what it is like to be a student at BPS for a morning. They excitedly listened to a story, completed a craft activity, went on a tour of the school and ate Crunch and Sip with the older students. The Narani Pre School staff were extremely impressed with our 2018 Kindergarten students and commented on how wonderful our staff and school are. We did not let the threat of rain dampen our Walkathon. Our school community enacted Plan B and we held the fund raising event at school. So many students proudly walked the course and tried their hardest to complete as many laps as possible. They did this knowing they were raising money for their school. I would like to thank Ms Smith for organising the event and acknowledge all of our wonderful families who contributed sponsorship that will go towards literacy resources for our students. Our second Kindergarten Orientation Day for our 2019 students will be held tomorrow between 10am and 11:15am. Parents will assemble in the hall and hear about the plethora of programs our school offers and get some tips about school readiness. Our 2019 students will go to the classrooms and complete some engaging activities in order to give them a taste of ‘big school’. We cannot wait until they start next year! Our Blakehurst public speaking specialists will be attending the Public Speaking Network Finals at Carlton South Public School on Wednesday. I would like to wish Ana (Kindergarten), Paige (Stage 1), Alicia (Stage 2) and Christian (Stage 3) the best of luck and know they will represent our school with pride. Summer PSSA and School Sport continues this term. We are excited to add swimming to our school sport repertoire. 30 students are participating in the swimming program and we are so fortunate to be within walking distance of an Olympic swimming pool. We know our students value this opportunity. Blakehurst Bluey says…

At Blakehurst Public School we are Safe, Respectful, Engaged and Resilient learners.

This year Blakehurst Public School has undertaken the Positive Behaviour for Learning Program as the major focus of the school’s wellbeing component.

As part of the program all students at BPS are rewarded for being safe, respectful, engaged and resilient learners by focusing and following the school rules and expectations.

Bluey cards are given to students in their class throughout the week who follow the school rules and expectations, for being safe, respectful, engaged and resilient. The cards get placed in the Bluey Barrel which is located in the office foyer. At the end of the term, students may receive a prize if their card is plucked out of the barrel. These students chosen for the Term 3 draw:

PSSA Sport

Summer PSSA is well underway, with our PSSA softball and cricket teams committed to weekly training sessions and Friday games.

Just a reminder that if you are unable to attend the game on a Friday, please let your teacher know as early as possible so we can ensure there are enough players to field a team.

All players are expected to be at school by 8.30am on a Friday. School sport groups are organised in advance and it is not always possible to accommodate extra students into the groups if they are supposed to be at PSSA.

Kindergarten 2019 Transition Program

Thank you to the Kindergarten 2019 families who attended our first transition program in September.

The next transition program will be on Tuesday 23rd October from 10am until 11.15am. We highly recommend that all Kindy 2019 students attend this second transition day.

In this transition session children will participate in school activities with teachers and buddies. Parents will attend a school readiness workshop, encompassing social skills, home reading, school uniform and PBL.

You will also receive information on the starting procedures for 2019, including Best Start/Plan assessments followed by morning tea and answer any questions you may have.

We look forward to seeing you and your child on Tuesday 23rd October 2018. If you are unable to attend, please call the school office on 9546 1555.

If you still haven’t completed an enrolment form for your child commencing next year, please ensure this is completed and handed in to the office as soon as possible.

Our snake competition came to an end with each class carefully creating their snakes along the playground from the staff room to the Flexispace.

1/2P was awarded the trophy for collecting the most coins, to make the longest snake with 3/4C and 5/6K very close behind. Our winning class 1/2P will be having their pizza and ice block prize tomorrow (Tuesday) at lunch time.

Thank you to Mrs Barnes and Mrs Acedo Del Carpio for organising the snake competition and congratulations to all our students, families and staff for helping us raise $926.50 which will go towards our year 6 farewell gift to the school.

P & C News

Payments for P&C

If you have been into the school office recently you may have noticed a new payment box has been installed on the right of the counter.

This is for cash payments for Uniform Shop orders, Canteen Food Orders, Special Food Day orders and any other P&C run events and occasions.

Please ensure that you place the correct money and form in an envelope for any orders you make.

Save the Date

Our annual Family Christmas Night will be here before we know it. We are excited to tell you it’s going to be held on Friday 14th December 2018. Please make sure that you save the date to attend.

Upcoming Projects

We have been discussing the idea of purchasing and installing some playground equipment here at our school.

This is a project which will take some time to come together and will involve planning and amongst other things, grant applications, meetings with playground equipment suppliers and designers etc.

We are looking to form a subcommittee that will work on this project alongside some of our school staff and students.

If you are interested in being involved in this wonderful project, please send an email to [email protected]
