2 33RD SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME WELCOME TO HOLY NAME OF MARY

Gathered with Mary as one family in the Eucharist,

We are called to live the love of Jesus. Holy Name of Mary Mission Statement

To the Priests of H.N.M.

Last weekend I was driving back

from Sacramento when I caught the end

of a radio announcement “...Priest Appre-

ciation Month”. I don’t know if it was

for October of November or a local thing,

but it was a good idea; to let you know

how much I appreciate each and every

one.

Thank you for the weekly letters in

the bulletin, I often cut them out and add

to a collage, or carry them around with

me, or often memorize parts. Like the

“Spirits of God, fill me with the energy of

your love” - and add some of my own.

Thank you for your personal stories

and identification with the gospels, and

the little known facts and figured, and

always, always your art.

Thank you for your reminder to Live

the Homily in our daily lives, and finding

God in the details.

Thank you for the jokes, the humor,

the laughs.

I didn’t know something was miss-

ing in my life, until I came back to H.N.

M. It’s made all the difference. I love and

appreciate each and everyone. Thank you

for sharing yourselves with us everyday as

men of faith. Maybe its my age – but I’m

a lot more open and vulnerable, my rela-

tionships are better, and I’m just more

present.

A Grateful Parishioner

Love our Parish!!! from the school to the parish.. We love it! Fr. Rich is so warm and inviting. When I first came, I didn't know what to expect

but I found a real church family here... Friendships that have lasted 20 plus years. Marriages divorces illnesses and a few deaths but through it all HNM has been here to support this journey through my life! Praise be to God for this place I call my church home.

Morgan DeAnna Sternquist

Exceptional Parish with very loving and warm Priests (Father Rich, Father Bill, Father Peter, Father John, Father Peadar). Most of all, they give their utmost attention to kids and welcomes everybody with open arms. They also have phenomenal staff and everyone is just amazing. It’s such a blessing to have found and discovered a Parish that feels like a family, where my boys just loves going to anytime we have to celebrate with Our Lord or just because…

Czarina Catherina Pabico

We've been members of Holy Name of Mary for 30 years. We love this parish and our parish family. As lifetime Catholics, we have never felt the Spirit and love, anywhere else, as strongly as we do, here at Holy Name of Mary.

Carol Gonyeau Morris

Love love love this parish! This is a place where I feel at home and at ease especially going to mass with my 3 littles (ages 4 and under). The priests, staff, and the community are very sweet, prayerful, and welcoming. Proud to be part of it!

Anne Enna

Great church and nice community! Me gusta mucho su misa en español.

Cara de Anda

We must find time to stop and thank the people who make a difference in our lives. Dan Zadra

Fr. Rich was a little reluctant to put this letter in, however, these beautiful words of parishioners could not go unnoticed.

CATHOLIC CAMPAIGN FOR HUMAN DEVELOPMENT This weekend we will have a second collection for the Catholic Campaign for Human Development (CCHD)! Your generous gifts will help CCHD break the cycle of poverty in the United States through better education, improved housing, and economic development. Through CCHD and its beneficiaries, we demonstrate Catholic social teaching and carry out Jesus’ mission to “bring glad tidings to the poor . . . to proclaim liberty to captives and recovery of sight to the blind, to let the oppressed go free” (Lk 4:18).

SPORTS FIELD Holy Name of Mary parish and school have begun discussions to study possible changes to the sports filed. The field had been designed for use as a baseball / softball filed including an electronic scoreboard, however for many years we have not had a softball or baseball team. Considerations include modifying and redoing the layout to use as football field which would also be appropriate as a soccer field. Ongoing discussion will examine the need for changes, the work necessary, budget, and the impact to possible Phase III improvements.

STEWARDSHIP OF TIME, TALENT & TREASURE November 19, 2017 5

CONSIDER MAKING A YEAR-END GIFT TO HOLY NAME OF MARY As the end of the year approaches, we begin to reflect upon the many blessings bestowed upon us. The end of the year also provides a great opportunity to thank God for these blessings by gifting to Holy Name of Mary Parish. The benefits of income tax deductions, capital gains savings and other financial benefits are significant advantages that provide an incentive to make a gift at the year-end. A gift can also help support Holy Name of Mary for years to come. There are many different ways of contributing a gift. However, two of the easiest and most direct methods to gift are donations of cash and appreciated stock or other invest-ments. You can also make other fi-nancially advantageous gifts such as real estate, life insurance, charitable remainder trusts, gift annuities, will/trust bequests and IRA/retirement accounts.

For more information on how you

can help make a difference by

contributing a year-end gift to Holy

Name of Mary, please contact Pat

COFFEE & DONUTS FELLOWSHIP Hosted By: Holy Name of Mary School’s 3rd Grade

Holy Name of Mary's third grade is excited to begin learning about the Native Americans. We will be going on a field trip to learn more about their culture, habitats, and traditional dance. Come meet them as you enjoy a delicious donut & coffee.

JESSE TREE This year St. Vincent de Paul is asking for your help to bring joy into the life of a child in need. Your gift can bring hope into their Christmas season. You may return the gift UN-WRAPPED WITH THE TAG ATTACHED and place under the tree BY SUNDAY, DECEMBER 3rd. Please make sure you purchase the item specified on the tag. 8 33RD SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME HELPING OTHERS

CHILDREN LOVE TO SERVE AND BE THE HANDS OF GOD

Heather Hoynes, Faith Formation Catechist took her students on a field trip to SVDP. Claire Murphy, a volunteer so kindly gave extra of her time. The children were asked to bring in a box of cereal. After Mass she heard they needed more so she emailed the parents they were more than happy to bring more. The children loved giving and learning about the Pantry. Afterwards they went to church to let Jesus know how grate-ful we were to allow us to give ... and show them the SVDP box located in the Narthex.

You too can help make a difference! Please consider bringing food items when you come to mass.

A SPOTLIGHT ON ST. VINCENT DE PAUL

A lady who had been living on the street for over two years in downtown Los Angeles and then in San Dimas came to us seeking shelter. She had lost contact with her family, suffered from depression, and was increasingly fearful of living on the street. We contacted a local mental health organization who arranged counseling services for her. We also provided her with food, clothing, and a cab to take her to a local shelter.

MEALS ON WHEELS

The La Verne San Dimas Meals on Wheels is in dire need for Meal Delivery Drivers. Please call (909)596-1828 and leave a call back number and you will be contacted.

SACRED HEART CATHOLIC CHURCH - ROCKPORT TEXAS The above picture of Sacred Heart Church shows progress 9 weeks after Hurricane Harvey. Hurricane Harvey caused extensive and severe damage to several of the buildings on campus.

REPORT OF DAMAGES & UPDATE:

The Church suffered some water damage from it entering through the

Bell Tower, roof, windows and doors. The nave is in good condition for us to have Mass.

The School suffered a great deal of water damage to several class-

rooms, library and cafeteria.

The business office is a total loss due to the roof of the second floor con-vent flying off.

The parish hall has severe water damage. Some of the roof also flew

off allowing rain inside.

The youth building has water damage and needed to be gutted of its

contents.

The other buildings had some to little damage.

Update: A few exterior construction items will be placed on the back burner as repairs to the roof due to hurricane damage will have to be done first. They are awaiting word from the Diocesan Construction Department and the Disaster Relief Office as to what will be the plans for the Church Facili-ties and School Campus. Together with your help, the community of Holy Name of Mary sent a check for the amount of $28,783.27 to help our brothers

and sisters at Sacred Heart.

Debemos encontrar tiempo
