Location: USC Fisher Museum of Art 823 Exposition Boulevard Los Angeles, California 90089 Description: Art enthusiasts can meet the exhibiting artists at this preview reception and be among the first to view the works selected for the 102nd Annual Gold Medal Juried Exhibition. Cocktails and Hors d’oeuvres beginning at 6:00 P.M. Awards Presentation at 8:00 P.M. Ticket Price: $75 per person in advance and $100 at the door. Includes a copy of the full-color exhibition catalogue. To purchase tickets in advance, call 626.583.9009 or visit www.californiaartclub.org Advance reservations must be received no later than 12 noon on Friday, May 31. Leffel CAC Signature Artist David A. Leffel will give a live portrait painting demonstration, shedding light on how he creates life-like portraits while at the same time he will share some of his insights and personal philosophies on art. Leffel is recognized by his peers as a “painter’s painter” and is known to art students worldwide through his bestselling books and videos. Moreover, Leffel’s intricately-composed paintings are greatly sought-after by prominent collectors. Location: USC Fisher Museum of Art Tickets: $20 CAC Members $25 Non-members June 8, 1:00 – 2:30 p.m. Lecture and Film Screening Robert Merrell Gage: Sculpting Lincoln and Los Angeles Screening of the documentary film The Face of Lincoln, which won the 1955 Academy Award for best short film, followed by a lecture by Jean Stern, Director of The Irvine Museum, on the life and works of Robert Merrell Gage (1892–1981). The lecture will look at several of Gage’s monumental sculptures, which can still be seen in and around Los Angeles. As a professor of sculpture at USC as well as the 13th President of the California Art Club (1932-33), Gage was an important figure in the history of both organizations. Location: USC Fisher Museum of Art Tickets: $10 CAC Members $15 Non-members June 23, 1:00 – 2:30 p.m. Lecture and Demonstration by Max Ginsburg New York-based artist Max Ginsburg will give a demonstration, painting from life in the alla prima style, as he discusses his thoughts and concepts that influence his work as well as the historical and contemporary basis for his unique brand of social realism. Ginsburg uses his art to explore the great themes of human life, taking on the subjects of war, peace, and social injustice, as well as life’s simple pleasures.
