Black History Month Program

On February 9, 2018, we witnessed three untold stories of African Americans during and after the Civil War, as they searched for freedom and civil rights. Shiloh New Site was privileged to have one of the vignettes. As the curtain unfolded, we stepped back in time to witness a sermon of Reverend Henry McNeal Turner presented by Hashmel Turner. Reverend Henry Turner was a Minister and a Bishop, who founded many of the AME churches in King George County, VA. He preached to both the slaves and the free. Singing was a tradition in that time and our own Shiloh choir filled the church with so many beautiful songs from long ago. The people were amazed at the sermon and the wonderful singing of the choir. We had a hundred and sixty-three people that attended our vignettes and it was a wonderful night. A special thanks to Ronald Monroe and the choir and all that participated, it could not have been a success without all of you.

Christian Education Ministry Submitted by Sis. Verlean Harley

The Wilderness Tiques Visit Shiloh Baptist Church New Site

The Wilderness Tiques, (a chapter of Questers International that focuses on history

and education) visited our church on Tuesday, March 27, 2018. The group of 19

members received a warm welcome from our Christian Education Ministry. Deacon

Wilbur Brown, Sr. vividly shared our rich church history, including the history of Dr.

Urban Bass and the stained-glass window dedicated in his memory by the Bass

family. Deacon Brown also shared the history on other stained-glass windows in the

church.

Women’s Mentoring Training Workshop

By Sis. Jeannette Ellis

On March 24, 2018, the women of Shiloh, Pastor Parrish and Deacon Harley were blessed to

be part of a mentoring workshop conducted by Pastor Wendy Mitchell. During the three-

hour workshop, we were educated, inspired, motivated and enlightened about mentoring

all while having fun. She kept us engaged with activities such as naming the fourteen

women mentors and mentees in the Bible and playing a mentoring matching game. We

heard testimonies from three ladies who came with her about how they have grown in all

areas of their lives and reached potential they did not know they had, all due to effective

mentoring. She also dispelled some of the myths we tend to have about mentoring. She

concluded with suggestions and advice on how to start a mentoring program at our church.
