In 2016, the national information and advisory centre for the promotion of German films worldwide – German Films Service + Marketing – launched a unique campaign to promote German cinematic achievements by showcasing exceptional German talent to the film industry and the wider international cinema-going community as a whole. The initiative – FACE TO FACE WITH GERMAN FILMS – shines a spotlight on the most influential indivi-duals currently working in the German film industry and represents just some of the many dynamic ‘faces’ of German filmmaking today.
The FACE TO FACE WITH GERMAN FILMS campaign launched at the 2016 London Film Festival, introducing six actresses as the initial industry ‘faces’, including European Film Award-winner JULIA JENTSCH. With the support of Germany’s most eclectic actors, the initiative entered its second phase dur-ing the 2017 Cannes Film Festival. Established acting talent, including former Berlinale European Shooting Star ALEXANDER FEHLING, and German Film Award-winner TOM SCHILLING, plus others who represent the next generation of acclaimed German acting talent, were presented to the global film indus-try as the next wave of Germany’s filmmaking ‘faces’. 2018 sees the conti-nuation of the campaign, celebrating the visionaries behind the camera, by highlighting prominent directors in the German film industry, including Cannes Critics Week Grand Prize-nominee EMILY ATEF and Berlin Golden Bear-nomi-nee BURHAN QURBANI, both of whom have already garnered a great deal of international recognition for their varied works.
For the first time, the Regent Street Cinema is partnering with German Films to bring you FACE TO FACE WITH GERMAN TALENT: THE GERMAN FILM WEEKEND from 21 - 23 September 2018.
The program of five German festival favourites (including two premieres) was curated by The Telegraph’s discerning film critic Tim Robey and will introduce you to some of the hottest talent from Germany, both in front of and behind the camera.
