Mentoring Programme

The Excel Southampton Internship Programme provides internship opportunities exclusively for University of Southampton students to gain invaluable work experience. Each year around 400 paid internship opportunities are available for 4-12 weeks; working with local and national SMEs, large corporations, charities and internally within the university. Each month we have new opportunities, visit the link below to browse and apply. www.southampton.ac.uk/careers/students/work-experience/excel.page

Did you know that having a professional mentor can increase your chances of getting a graduate job? You can gain invaluable knowledge and experience from a mentor, helping you to build employability skills and with career planning.

If you would like to be matched with a mentor with experience relevant to you, then apply to be a Career Mentee.

www.southampton.ac.uk/careers/students/mentoring.page

“I first heard about the festival from the University of Southampton Careers Facebook page. I thought it would be a good idea in meeting some companies, to have a general idea of where I could apply for spring and summer internships. Also I attended a few company presentations as well as workshops to help with CVs and applications...I think it’s really important to utilise these sessions as they could really make the difference in whether you get that internship/graduate placement. Plus you may even have the chance to win a prize…like an iPad”.

Sandra Addai Careers and Employability Festival Participant 2015

The Year in Employment (YiE) provides the opportunity to complete a work placement as part of your degree. Developing professional skills and providing valuable experience, the YiE will give you a brilliant foundation for securing a graduate career.

We assist you sourcing suitable placements and navigating application processes. Once you secure a role, we offer support throughout your placement.

For more information, see www.southampton.ac.uk/careers/year-in-employment

If you’re looking for a challenge - one where you can use your intelligence and personality to help solve one of the country’s biggest problems - Teach First has a unique opportunity for you. The link between how well you do in life and how much your family earns is stronger in the UK than almost anywhere in the developed world. We’re changing this and you can too.

Young people in low-income communities need leaders to bring out the best in them. We support

exceptional people like you to become leaders through our two-year Leadership Development Programme in schools across the country.

You’ll gain a fully-funded Postgraduate Diploma in Education, worth double the credits of a PGCE, and coaching to develop your leadership qualities. If you can inspire in the classroom, you can bring resilience, efficiency and imagination to any environment, wherever your career takes you.
