Great art work was on display last week at Tortoiseshell’s outcome. They had
studied architects and chosen Gaudi to focus on having been inspired by his or-
ganic and colourful designs. Their 3D lizards inspired by the sculptures in Park
Guell were a particular highlight!
Swallowtail mixed science and DT this week by building balloon powered vans. The testing was the part the class enjoyed the
most as they waited with bated breath to see if it would reach the length of three tables. I’m sure racing them will be just as
exciting! Great effort Swallowtail!
Every year we elect 2 members from each class to represent us at our School Coun-
cil meetings. These representatives will help to share our classes ideas and con-
cerns.
Here are the children selected this year to sit on our School Council. It is a great
honour and we can’t wait to get started making our school the best place it can
be!
This year we will organise
Carswell’s got Talent, continue work on being an eco-school, ensure the happi-
ness of all children in our school and
anything else that comes to our attention.

and Key stage 2 member to chair our fortnightly
meetings. The children who were elected
stated that they wanted to ensure that our
school continues to be a happy and safe place
for everyone to learn.

Chrysalis Class have spent a week and a half learning nursery rhymes. Through nursery rhymes, they have developed a range of Literacy skills. Along the way, they have also used nursery rhymes to challenge existing skills and knowledge, and have a lot of fun! These are the rhymes the chil-dren have learnt, many of them with actions. (26 rhymes in just 7 days!)

If you have any old jars (with or without a lid) please can you drop them
off at the office. They are needed for a charity stall at our Christmas fair
being run by one of our Year sixes. Look out for it when you come!
Friends of Carswell School News
Carswell Christmas Fair 2019 Friday 6th December, 3-5pm
It’s the most wonderful time of the year, nearly!
Each year staff, parents and carers run the Carswell Primary School Christmas Fair.
This year we are raising funds to pay for new school dictionaries, decorating the school dining hall, funding Accelerated Read-
er software and to support arts events at school.
We also need your help!
Tombola Donations
On Friday 22 November (next Friday) we ask that children wear non-uniform and bring in a donation for the children or adult
tombola. It can be sweets, wine, unwanted gifts, chocolates. All donations gratefully received. And you never know you might
win it back!
Clearing out toys to make way for new ones?
We also are on the look out for no longer used toys, children’s books or DVDs to sell on our second-hand toy stall. The office
will kindly relieve you of these as you clear the decks for Christmas!
Running a stall?
If any parents/carers would like to run a stall then please email FoCS Chair Helen at [email protected] We always needs helpers for the refreshments stall and others! We have space for anyone who runs a small business who would like to book a stall. A small fee is charged for outside traders, but very reasonable!
Raffle Tickets on Sale Soon
Raffle tickets will go on sale soon too! We have some fantastic prizes including two tickets to the Oxford Playhouse Panto
Beauty and the Beast; a pass to Blenheim Palace for a family of four; a children’s martial arts voucher worth £55; passes for
Snakes and Ladders; a bottle of champagne. Full list in next week’s Carswell Times. We’ll be sending books of raffle tickets
home for the first time so please feel free to sell to family members, friends, work colleagues. If their phone number is on the
winning tickets then we will call and arrange prizes to be collected/delivered!

Dear Parents and Carers,
I hope you’ve all had a productive week as we have at school. The rehearsals for the Carol Concert are well underway and the children are working hard to ensure their voices are ready for the morning of the 19th of December. We are particular-ly enjoying the ‘oh oh ohs’ in one of the songs being taught to them by Miss Ste-phen's, it’s raising the hairs on our neck and even making some of the staff well up already! Listen out for it at the concert.
Thank you to all who brought in old Christmas jumpers today for the FOCS jump-er swap, it’s the first time we’ve done this so it was somewhat of a testing ground but it’s a great way to recycle (or upcycle) old jumpers and we hope to continue it next year, perhaps for old Halloween costumes too.
A gentle reminder to all parents for the mornings and after school. Please could you ensure your children don’t use the trim trail outside of school hours. When there are no members of staff outside children aren’t allowed on it for health and safety (plus liability insurance) purposes. It is also getting frosty in the mornings and the safety rubber matting can be very slippery. I have spoken to all the chil-dren in assembly about not sliding around on it for the reasons stated above. Part of me remembers what I would do age eight when ice and frost appeared on the playground, skid about and create slides just like our children want to do, but times change and the world is a very different place to the nineteen seventies…
As I walked around our school this week I was struck by the sheer amount of cre-ative opportunities the staff have been giving the classes. There are creative drawing, writing and designing clubs springing up during lunch; led, planned and implemented by the children and the creative element in our projects is ever-improving and challenging the children to surpass the expectations of their abili-ties in the creative arts. It is testament to our shared vision that our children have the opportunity and space to develop a love of creative expression and we as a staff have certainly felt the impact on their behaviour and general well being.
Finally, thank you for being such a positive and open-minded community, we are all grateful for the smiles, support, ideas and feedback we get from you.
