Franciscan Renewal CenterFra nciscan Values at the Franciscan Renewal Center

Last week I shared with you our first value about relationship and its meaning to staff and volunteers. you missed it, we have it available on our website at www.thecasa.org. Today, I will offer some insighabout our second value~We don't own the results, God does .We value relationship over efficiency. We dont own the results God does.Intuition is a superior form of knowing over rationality. We accept interruptions as potential opportunities for cooperation with the Spirit. We look to the coincidence of opposites for answers. We trust in providence.Proactive collaboration and cooperation honors our interdependence yet accountability remains clear.Magnify the voice of the under-heard.Prayerful discernment.Within the context of spiritual growth, attendance equals success.

Potential for spiritual growth and transformation equals success. Our priority is cooperation with the Spirit. Although some of these sound quite theological, they stir inside and create a culture that embodiesFranciscan values. What does it mean to say one is Franciscan in their being and behavior? Generosiof spirit, simplicity of nature and poverty through detaching from things that separate us from the loGod are three. Of course, there are more but this is plenty to begin with. Our staff works in communiwith hundreds of volunteers to provide services to those who visit for any number of our ministryresources. Our evaluations for staff are also based on these Franciscan behaviors and values. Each day many of us work diligently focusing on the areas of our job descriptions that move uscloser toward our goals and strategic objectives. We are making a difference in society throughour ministry at the Casa. The outcomes that result by our personal and collective actions aretypically never witnessed by our works. In fact the majority are not. We sometimes hear amazingstories of conversion years later. But, for most of us, the work we do today, as help for others, may never be apart of our awareness. And that is okay with all of us on staff and volunteers.God owns the results. Certainly, we have evaluations on everything from our pillows to the food. But our collective efforts are not defined by our standards. Our expectation is to bring gospelconcepts to the people we encounter. Results and rewards are translated in YOU and your encounter with God and others~ through and in the Franciscan Renewal Center~ We support.

My point is this, integrated deep into the core of our collective being, our primary purpose for existingan institution is for supporting the friars ministry and mission, working side by side with the friars in tvision of inspiring and changing society toward peace and goodness, renewing lives. We do that hereleading people to Christ on that journey. We return the generous love of God by our service toothers. This spiritual oasis, called The Casa, takes one away from the distractions of modern life, andrecharges one to become closer to God. We do this through the lens of Franciscan spirituality.Peace. Renew. Good.Charlie Brown, GM ~
