From the Rector’s Desk...On behalf of Bishop Foys, the parish clergy and staff, I want to wish you a very blessed Christmas Season! May the peace and joy of the newborn Savior enter our hears during this holy season.

Thank you for your generosity to the Retirement Fund for the Religious. In addition, I want to thank all those who helped in any way with our parish Christmas dinner, especially the parish staff. It was a wonderful celebration! I also want to thank those who participated in the Advent Giving Tree this year. We collected many items that were distributed to Welcome House to be given to families in need in time for Christmas.Fr. Maher

Christmas Decorating – Help is needed to decorate the Cathedral at 9:00 a.m., Monday, December 23, 2019. If you can help, please call Berry in the Parish Office at 859-431-2060.

Reminders – The Cathedral will be closed after 10:00 a.m. Mass on Christmas Day and after 10:00 a.m. Mass on Wednesday, January 1, 2020. The Parish Office will be closed on December 24-27 and December 31-January 3. Solemnity of Mary, Mother of God (Holyday of Obligation) Masses: December 31, 5:30 p.m. and January 1, 10:00 a.m.

Day of Prayer and Penance – Bishop Foys has declared January 24, 2020 as a Day of Prayer and Penance for Life in the Diocese of Covington to mark the anniversary of the Supreme Court’s decision legalizing abortion. Every church will remain open during the day to allow the faithful to pray for an end to abortion, to pray for all those affected by the tragedy of abortion, and to pray for the 50 million children murdered by abortion. Every parish will also expose the Blessed Sacrament for a period of time on this day. Here at the Cathedral, adoration will take place from 7:00 to 8:00 p.m. Finally, Bishop Foys has designated 10 churches, including the Cathedral, to host a Holy Hour for Life beginning at 7:00 p.m., all are strongly encouraged to attend. The complete list can be found in The Messenger. We must all do our part to protect the dignity of the human person and ensure the inalienable right to life for all – especially the unborn.

The Cathedral Basilica of the Assumption’s Saturday, 4:30 Vigil Mass is taped and broadcast at 5:00 p.m. every Sunday on: WLWT – Channel 5-2 ME-TV, Cincinnati Bell Fioptics – Channel 23 and 291; Spectrum – Northern KY channel 188; Spectrum – Hamilton County Channel 993. ME-TV is an affiliate of NBC/WLWT. The airing covers the Diocese of Covington, the Archdiocese of Cincinnati, partially the Archdiocese of Indianapolis and the Diocese of Lexington.

Care of the Sick – If you know of a parishioner who is in the hospital or care center who would like a visit from the parish clergy, please contact Sister Barbara Woeste at the Parish Office. Because of the privacy laws, often times we do not receive a phone call from the institution. We rely on family or friends to let us know when someone is in the hospital.

Support group for those who have a family member or friend in jail or prison – meets from 6:30 to 8:00 p.m., on the third Tuesday every month. Support group for parents of addicted loved ones (PAL) – meets from 6:30 to 8:00 p.m., every Wednesday. Neighborworks – a class to learn how to buy a home.

New Beginnings – A faith-based support group that provides separated and divorced individuals the opportunity for healing and growth. All sessions are held at Thomas More University, Crestview Hills. Registration is required. Please call 859-392-1500, ext. 1592.

March for Life NKY – January 24, 2020 – March for Life NKY is an annual opportunity to march in unity with those at the National March for Life in Washington, D.C. We march to remember the 1973 ruling by the Supreme Court to legalize abortion. All are welcome to march, peacefully and prayerfully. Opening prayer at 5:00 p.m. at Immaculate Heart of Mary Church (IHM), 5876 Veterans Way, Burlington, KY. March one mile to the 1889 historic Burlington Courthouse, 2988 Washington Street, for warmth, fellowship, refreshments, and speakers. March returns to IHM by 7:00 p.m. for a Holy Hour of Prayer for Life. If you are unable to march, please gather from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. at the Courthouse. It is handicap accessible.
