El Santo Evangelio según San Mateo (Mt 11: 2-11) En aquel tiempo, Juan se encontraba en la cárcel, y habiendo oído hablar de las obras de Cristo, le mandó preguntar por medio de dos discípulos: "¿Eres tú el que ha de venir o tenemos que esperar a otro?" Jesús les respondió: "Vayan a contar a Juan lo que están viendo y oyendo: los ciegos ven, los cojos andan, los leprosos quedan limpios de la lepra, los sordos oyen, los muertos re-sucitan y a los pobres se les anuncia el Evangelio. Dichoso aquel que no se sienta defrau-dado por mí". Cuando se fueron los discípulos, Jesús se puso a hablar a la gente acerca de Juan: "¿Qué fueron ustedes a ver en el desierto? ¿Una caña sacudida por el viento? No. Pues enton-ces, ¿qué fueron a ver? ¿A un hombre lujosamente vestido? No, ya que los que visten con lujo habitan en los palacios. ¿A qué fueron, pues? ¿A ver a un profeta? The Holy Gospel According to St Matthew (MT 11: 2-11) When John the Baptist heard in prison of the works of the Christ, he sent his disciples to Jesus with this question, "Are you the one who is to come, or should we look for anoth-er?" Jesus said to them in reply, "Go and tell John what you hear and see: the blind re-gain their sight, the lame walk, lepers are cleansed, the deaf hear, the dead are raised, and the poor have the good news proclaimed to them. And blessed is the one who takes no offense at me." As they were going off, Jesus began to speak to the crowds about John, "What did you go out to the desert to see? A reed swayed by the wind? Then what did you go out to see? Someone dressed in fine clothing? Those who wear fine clothing are in royal palaces. Then why did you go out? To see a prophet? Yes, I tell you, and more than a prophet. This is the one about whom it is written: Behold, I am sending my messenger ahead of you; he will prepare your way before you. Qué es Adviento: Se conoce como Adviento al tiempo santo en que celebra la Iglesia los cuatro domingos anteriores a la Navidad. El Adviento es un tiempo de alegría para los cristianos, caracterizado por la preparación espiritual del nacimiento de Jesús. El Adviento comienza en el domingo más próximo del día 30 de noviembre y termina el día 24 de diciembre, convirtiéndose en el primer tiempo del año litúrgico cristiano. La duración del Adviento varía entre veintidós y veintiocho días, tiempo dedicado a la reflexión, penitencia y oración como preparación para recibir al Señor Jesucristo. El color usado en la liturgia de la Iglesia durante este tiempo es el morado. Por su parte, las lecturas bíblicas en el tiempo de Adviento son tomadas del profeta Isaías como del Antiguo Testamento señalando la llegada del Mesías. Según la Biblia, el Ángel Gabriel, se le apareció a María, indicándole que pronto daría a luz a un niño, hijo de Dios, que llamaría Jesús, y su reino no tendría fin. Ese tiempo de espera, es caracterizado como Adviento.

What is Advent? It is known as Advent the holy time in which the Church celebrates the four Sundays before Christmas. Advent is a time of joy for Christians, characterized by the spiritual preparation of the birth of Jesus. Advent begins on the nearest Sunday to November 30 and ends on December 24, becoming the first time of the Christian liturgical year. The duration of Advent varies between twenty-two and twenty-eight days, time devoted to reflection, penance, and prayer in preparation to receive the Lord Jesus Christ. The color used in the Church liturgy during this time is purple. For their part, biblical readings at Advent time are taken from the prophet Isaiah as from the Old Testament, pointing to the Messiah's arrival. The Angel Gabriel appeared to Mary, indicating that she would soon give birth to a child, son of God, who she would call Jesus, and His kingdom would have no end. That waiting time is characterized as Advent.

Corona de Adviento La corona de Adviento surgió en la edad media como símbolo de amor y luz hacia Dios. La corona de Adviento se caracteriza por ser una corona de ramas, puede ser de pino o abeto, con cuatro velas, por lo general son 3 de color morado y una rosado. La primera vela, es encendida en el primer domingo de Adviento y las restantes son encendidas durante las siguientes semanas. La corona de Adviento está llena de simbolismo: Su forma circular, representa la eternidad y su color esperanza. De observar, una cinta de color roja en la corona, simboliza el amor de Dios por la humanidad y el amor de los fieles que esperan el nacimiento de Jesús. Las 4 velas, representan las cuatro semanas de Adviento y son encendidas en cada Domingo de Adviento.

Advent Wreath The Wreath of Advent arose in the Middle Ages as a symbol of love and light toward God. The Advent wreath is characterized by being one of branches, can be pine or spruce, with four candles, usually 3 purple and one pink. The first candle is lit on the first Sunday of Advent and the remaining ones are lit over the next few weeks. The Advent wreath is full of symbolism: Its circular shape represents eternity and its color hope. If a red ribbon is seen on the wreath, it symbolizes God's love for humanity and the love of the faithful who await the birth of Jesus. The 4 candles represent the four weeks of Advent and they are lit on every Sunday of Advent.
