SECOND SUNDAY OF LENT First Reading: Genesis 15:5-12, 17-18 God told Abram that he would give him the land of Egypt and his descendants would become a great people. Abram then made sacrifices to God, cutting them in half. A torch passed between the pieces, as a visible sign to Abram of God's promise.

Second Reading: Philippians 3:17-4:1 Paul urges the Philippians to avoid becoming too inter-ested in material possessions. He reminds them that their most important wealth is their faith in Jesus, which will lead them to eternal life.

Gospel: Luke 9:28b-36 Jesus took Peter, John and James to a mountain to pray. When his clothes grew incredibly white, Moses and Elijah appeared. They spoke of the scripture he was to fulfill. Then a cloud came down and a voice said, "This is my Son, my Chosen One. Listen to him." The disciples who had seen Jesus' glory did not disclose this experience to anyone until much later.

Return the cross to that same Mass the following week and keep the prayer materials. Pray for vocations to the priesthood and religious life, especially from our parishes!

SEVEN DEADLY SINS, SEVEN LIVELY VIRTUES Pride, envy, anger, sloth, greed, gluttony and lust: these “seven deadly sins” are patterns of dysfunction that keep us separated from God and ultimately lead to un-happiness. Join us as we embark on Fr. Robert Barron’s exploration of these seven sinful patterns and also learn how practicing countervailing virtues can break the cycle of sin. Our parishes will begin the Seven Deadly Sins and Seven Lively Virtues program at 7:15 on Thursday, Feb-ruary 25th and Thursday, March 3rd, St. Christopher’s Church Hall. Call St. Christopher parish office at 624-6644 to sign up.

CATHOLIC CHARITY APPEAL Have you given prayerful consideration to your gift for the 2016 Catholic Charity Appeal? Won’t you help us by being the “Hands of Christ” in supporting the people and the work of the Diocese of Providence? Many of you have responded to the CCFA mailing from Bishop Tobin. On behalf of those served by the min-istries and services funded by the CCFA, we thank you for your gifts. If you have not made a gift to this year’s Appeal, you will be able to do so through our In-Pew solicitation, which will take place on the weekends of Feb. 27/28 and March 5/6. On the weekend of Feb. 27/28, Third year Seminarian Ben Mahoney from Our Lady of Providence Seminary will speak at all Masses. The goal of our parishes is to attain 100% participation – a goal that can only be reached with your sacrificial help and support. All gifts, regardless of size, help to make a difference in the lives of so many individuals.
